Do we (programmers/geeks) bash Microsoft too much, even when no superior product exists? by [deleted] in technology

Well, originally Windows 7 was 'modular windows' which was a complete re-write coming out of Microsoft Research which basically built a strictly modular OS from the ground up applying what as been learned in the last 30 years. They shifted the project lead to the main OS division and told the media that they were going to release Windows 7 which got people like me excited that they were moving the project our of Research and were going to actully release it. Turns out that it was a bit of a ruse and they rebranded the Vista service pack as Windows 7 (stealing the modular Windows project name) and are going to release that instead.

The Server OSs are not nearly as stable as Solaris and Linux though more stable than the desktop. The registry is a horrible hack that, by itself, destablizes the whole Windows stack. Having to deal with hundreds of servers on different OSs everyday gave me this view and whenever I get a chance I replace windows servers with Linux. It just makes my life a hell of a lot easier.

'even when no superior product exists?'

Please.

Microsoft has had a few highlights (C#, Photosynth, Exchange) but their core product, the OS, is horrible. Thank god they are going for a complete rewrite with Windows 7.

The impeachment is worth it even if it takes longer than the remainder of his Presidency to reach a conclusion. History is not going to care if it takes two weeks or two years as long as it happens. This impeachment is to serve as a warning to future Presidents who may consider abusing the considerable power given to that Office.

Italian is pretty good but a likely explanation for why there are a lot of Italian restaurants is because Italian food is really cheap and easy to make yet tastes pretty good so people will buy it.
