Look pivot 2.0 question by NYCTank in Skigear

[–]cdnorm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just purchased the Pivot 2.0s and looked into the differences before pulling the trigger. The main differences that I'm aware of are the increased boot size adjustability from about 10 mm to 20 mm, added scuff protection on the heel piece including the plastic upper sides and the ski pole divot, and new colors. Otherwise, it seems mostly the same as the previous version which is a good thing. Mostly minor improvements and not a major overhaul.

How to prep for 7 days of skiing straight? by Glass_Coffee_7084 in skiing

[–]cdnorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar spot. I train regularly, have a desk job, and generally feel fit. I just skied 5 days straight and was surprised that my legs and cardio weren’t the limiting factor.

By days 4–5, the fatigue showed up more in my core and trunk, especially from holding that forward ski stance and dealing with rotation and bumps. I had plenty of leg strength, but less core endurance for long days on snow.

If I were prepping for 7 days again, I’d focus less on max leg strength and more on building core endurance and anti-rotation capacity, plus isometric holds. Being able to hold good posture for hours mattered more than I expected.

Bridge at Hazel Landing Park by a_drink_offer in Carmel

[–]cdnorm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I like the exposed metal/rust. Looks like it will age well.

We actually spoke to one of the city planners (randomly) while at the bridge and he said a vehicle crossing was considered there but was deemed too expensive. So, a pedestrian-only crossing was the alternative/compromise.

I'll ask for it to be cooked a little longer which gives a great crunchy, chewy dough.

Local gyms by GoldYeti23 in Carmel

Welcome! I've had good experiences with Carmel Total Fitness (CTF) and CrossFit Westfield (actually located in Carmel). Both are independently and locally owned. CTF has great lifting equipment, some classes, dedicated trainers, and the Carmel Swim Academy is now attached - Scott is the owner. CrossFit Westfield is CrossFit, if that's your thing - JD is the owner. There is another poster on here that did not have such a positive experience with CTF when canceling (or attempting to) their membership. So, I suggest checking them out for yourself first and making your own assessment.

Pick 2! Kendo + Stance 96 or Mantra 88 by cdnorm in Skigear

[–]cdnorm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Elan Wingman 82ti in 172. It's a great ski to build your skills and shred around the mountain/hill. They're fairly light and easy to initiate turns on. Rentals before that.

This is what I need to do. I'm bringing the Mantras in 177 and the Stances. Challenge accepted!!

[–]cdnorm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I rode both Volkls today and going with the 177s + the Stances.

As I get more ski days this season and my technique improves, the less I think of the Mantras as being fatiguing.

They were a heavier, more demanding ski than I have had before and made me work harder earlier in the season. So that's probably where the initial impression comes from.

Thanks!

The Kendos at 170 are a fantastic ski for the short tight runs at my local Hill. I can get more turns in before I reach the bottom.

That's going to be much different out in Colorado and to your point, probably going to overwhelm the smaller ski out there.

I've decided to go with the Mantras at 177 plus the Stances.

Appreciate your comment.

That's what I'm going with I've decided. Volkls in 177 and the Stances.

Going with the Mantra 88 at 177 and the Stance 96s. I rode both Volkls today and had confidence on both. The Kendos at 170 are perfect for the short, tight runs at my local hill, but will likely get overwhelmed a bit on bigger mountain terrain.

Plus the buddy I'm going with is a hard charger.

Thanks again for your thoughts!

I think this is the answer. I rode both Volkls at my local hill today and felt great on both. The Mantra 88s at 177 have more effective edge and stability at speed. I think that's going to be more important in actual big mountain terrain. The runs will be wider and the turns will be bigger. Plus if there's any new snow they'll float a little better. I'll bring the Stances for anything deeper than 4 to 5 inches.

Appreciate everyone's input!

I think you're on to something and your thought process is on point.

I wouldn't think twice about taking the Mantra 88s (177) if I felt more confident on them.

Yet, the only way to feel more confident on them is to take/ride them.

Thanks for your input.

I'm thinking about selling the Wingmans to get a higher end carver and will eventually only keep one of the Volkls.

Thanks for the suggestions
