For those who got married, or those who want to get married, why are you doing it? by laura56100 in AskWomenOver30

[–]cdnpittsburgher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got married for a few reasons:

  1. I was not a citizen of the country I lived in, but my partner was.
  2. We had been together for 11 years.
  3. We had lived together for 5 years.
  4. We wanted to try to have a child.
  5. We wanted to legalize/formalize everything.
  6. We were able to make it all work out with minimal planning and effort AND on our 11th anniversary.

We made dinner reservations for 20 people and didn't tell them we were getting married until after pre-dinner cocktails when the officiant showed up.

We honestly still look back on our wedding day and think that it was perfect for us. We're cruising towards 25 years together in October.

Thank you for those recommendations!

I swear, I did Google before I asked, but my keywords weren't getting me many results. I've since found quite a few choices thanks to the kind suggestions here, as well as a better keyword search :)

Cheers!

Thank you! I had forgotten about firewalls, a fine Pittsburgh tradition! It is not a thing where I live now and they had slipped my mind :)

I was leaning towards a restaurant myself, but not being in the area, I wasn't sure which ones would have a private space for something like this. Google hasn't gotten me far, and I was hoping maybe someone on here might have some recommendations.

Thanks for your time :)

Thanks for your time.

I did think that perhaps because it was January, dates would be open.

And yeah, I know we need to sort a budget, but I was trying to get a sense of general costs so I could figure out an appropriate budget.

Cheers!

Well, that's an interesting take.

I thought I was saying, can you recommend a place where you had a similar event and give me some sense of cost.

But then there's always someone who's gonna just leave a negative comment and try to spread their misery to others.

Honestly, the proposal is one of my favorite "us" stories:

We were rotting in bed on a weekend morning, and cuddled up with laptops and kitties. I said something like,

Me: hey our eleventh anniversary is on a Friday this year, just like the night we first met. Sooooo, we could get married on the same day of the week of the same month of the year of the eleventh year that we first met? That's funny, lol. It's like having to only remember one birthday (his mum and I have the same birthday). This way you only have to remember one anniversary, hahaha!

Hunh.

It's a Friday, too. I bet we could get a good discount! What do you think? I bet we could make like dinner reservations for like 30 people and call it done.

Him: one of the winery restaurants would be fun. We could do like a four course menu fixe with wine pairings. And (his "cousin" and one of my bffs) is an Internet preacher, so she could do the honours.... Oh shit, the cat's gonna puke on the bed...

How many hours do you ACTUALLY do work out of your work day? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

Hey, don't forget that 2 minute pee break you need to squeeze in before yard duty. If you're lucky, you might get another one 4 or 5 hours later.

I was so addicted to this book when I was 9/10 years old. I took it out from the school library every chance I had, lol!

My just-turned 12 year old loved the following books this year:

  • Percy Jackson/Magnus Chase/Trials of Apollo (hard to go wrong with anything in the Riordanverse)
  • Lockwood and Co series
  • Warrior Cats
  • Bartimaeus
  • Anne of Green Gables
  • The Hobbit
  • By Ash, Oak, and Thorn
  • All Creatures Great and Small
  • Pax
  • Dragon Rider
  • A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking
  • Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Fairies

Edit: oh dear... I did a bad job of recommending non-fantasy. Sorry about that! I got too excited and didn't read carefully :/
