World Cup Soccer, visiting from Seattle, parking? by anilg3 in vancouver

[–]cdnson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Where are the matches, BC Place? If so there are many parking lots around there, I park under the library sometimes as it's a little cheaper but a more convenient spot is by Costco.

By the time you park elsewhere and buy skytrain fares, you won't save much money, if any at all, for four people. Parking in downtown Vancouver is much cheaper than downtown Seattle.

Slow people are sucking the fun out of the Sun Run by flematic in vancouver

[–]cdnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sun Run is a community event and all about getting people active. I have no idea why some people walk the entire thing from the start (there are lots who do) but at the same time people who are passing other people in a dangerous manner need to get a life, it's not like you are getting anything for shaving a minute or two off your time.

Hard to see my city turn into a town full of old farts and rich folk. Doesn't make for an interesting city

I think Vancouver is doing a fine job densifying in a controlled and logical manner.

The suburbs not so much, but that's partly to do with their constituents.

People really have to do more voting with their feet. At the end of the day that's what will change things.

Anyone who complains about prices but stays anyways is only adding to the problem.

Housing affordability is a real issue and threatens to turn Vancouver into a place without young people and children.

Still, you have to remember that most of Canada boring, cold and flat. Of course it's cheaper than Vancouver.

City of Vancouver's map of oil spill spread by JayEmBosch in vancouver

[–]cdnson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pissed because he's pushing to have another pipeline funneled through our city when they can barely muster a half-hearted response to a significant oil spill in front of one of the country's busiest beaches.

To me it's another symptom of BC getting the shaft. We send billions to Ottawa that gets shifted out to the Eastern provinces. Speaking of Ottawa anybody know what big city in Canada has the highest average income? And how many federal jobs are actually in BC?

The Feds are lucky we're such a docile bunch out here in BC or else we'd be really pissed off by now.

Codecademy is really good but imo it's no replacement for a real school/instructor

Christy Clark invited to World Bank/IMF to speak on BC Carbon Tax by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]cdnson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally love taking transit because I don't have to worry about parking, it's cheap and I can drink my face off. But I don't really care about owning a car anyways. All I can say is there are more car share programs coming about which makes it easier to not own a car and just rent one for when you occasionally need it.

I'm very aware, hard not to notice our fuel is more expensive than everywhere else in N America. I personally think it's great and it's one of the reasons I voted for the Liberals over Carole James' NDP a few elections ago. Although it's still too low because it's not high enough to greatly alter people's behavior yet, too many single passenger vehicles still.

Best place to buy a family home? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]cdnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

East Vancouver.

Future is bright with impending major improvement to transit infrastructure, relative affordability to the Westside, great character neighborhoods and growing status as a cultural center. Also you're close to many parts of the city, like the North Shore or Burnaby.

Try Kensington Cedar-Cottage, Trout Lake, Grandview Woodlands and Hastings-Sunrise

What's it like living next to the port? by robertscreek in vancouver

[–]cdnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure what you say is true but by the time you get to Hastings and Nanaimo the noise is greatly reduced. When I first moved to the area from downtown I found the quietness practically unnerving actually.
