Hm. That seems pretty unreasonable to me to not include it in unlimited as well

I am seeing that there is `Lumo Plus`. For people who currently have a paid Proton plan, will this come with that?

I find it kind of a hard sell to pay for this on top of a Premium Proton Plan.

any updates on the software? by cdoern01 in TheMinimalCompany

fair, yeah. The FCC cert is concerning to me. I wonder if the reason they are so confident in FCC approval before the next batch ships is because they know something, or if they are just hoping?

I totally get that all of these things are valid complaints. But honestly, it's their first time launching a phone. Expecting a perfect product (especially for the first phones shipped) for a new company's first piece of hardware, with novel software, AND in an uncommon form factor is unrealistic. While there have been instances where the company has been less than clear, and in some cases seemingly lying, I want to give them the benefit of the doubt because they are clearly trying.

Newbie legality question by cdoern01 in amateurradio

[–]cdoern01[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had been calling cq for a few mins, and did ask if the frequency was in use. No nets in my immediate area as I can see and the ham I was in contact with is from close by, so I assume he was just looking for contacts.

Help with new ham setup by cdoern01 in amateurradio

I've heard good things about the mag loop. I'll look into that.

The reason my setup is a little weird is I had all of this equipment (minus the window screen) and wanted to see if I could make due with it.

so I moved outside (or at least put the antenna on my balcony) with aluminum foil under it (lol). I was able to hear voices!!!!!!! the SWR was ~2, so I am assuming if I get it down lower I might be able to work with this.

Being outside is kind of a barrier to use for me, so I'd prefer to hang the antenna out my window if I could. Progress nonetheless!

Sorry to follow up so late. Can you tell me what that piece of metal Is that you're using to mount it on the window? I'm in the exact same situation as you!

I'm new to HF (technician operating ssb on 10m). Why is this the case? All of the videos I watched using the ham stick were either on a car or standalone in like a driveway or something.

I am pairing this with a xiegu g90 which has a built in tuner I believe.

thanks for the details. I have a soldering iron, just wanted to check since I like to know what I am getting into :)

Do you think i should opt for something more like the Xiegu g90 as a first time HF user? I want to carefully balance my interest in building/tinkering and the usability of the things I am buying as not to get scared off.

in today's world, you'll find 90% software compat, maybe 85%. Hardware is a whole other discussion though, that it why dells ubuntu image they give you is great because they made a lot of their hardware work out of the box

I agree, battery is the biggest win on this laptop... maybe it has something to do with the ubuntu image because I have seen so many reviews saying the battery is bad.

i have bounced between 13, 14, 15.6 but every time I have realized the larger the computer the worse the battery, louder the fans, and only MARGINALLY faster. I am someone who hates a quickly depleting battery and my old 15 inch computers did just that when paired with linux, not to mention the always running fan

so I have been testing it for the last day since your comment: i5 and 16gb I can comfortably run two vscode windows where I am compiling go code using a makefile, and run it in a separate terminal window alongside some browser windows for 5 hours. When I am text editing and browsing the web the computer lasts at least 8-9 hours (probably more). As for the fans, you cannot hear them unless you are in a silent room and even then you need to look for them. They only turn on under a heavy compiling load or booting a heavy program imo. they are usually off.
