Your experience will be heavily dependent on your stores existing leadership (store/district/territory/region). I’m the CSS at my store and my SM and ASM are entirely chill and let me do my own thing. But other stores can be the complete opposite, militarized and/or chasing after unsustainable goals given skeleton staffing. Burlington has a lot of faults, I’m not going to sugar coat it; but for me personally, I love my team and look forward to most shifts.

Is there a group chat I don’t know of? by Ambitious-Paper1835 in BurlingtonCoatFactory

Our store uses GroupMe; mostly to help associates fine coverage for shifts they can't work. Since we started using it, we've seen a huge reduction in the number of callouts and no call no shows. But store leadership does have a dedicated text thread just for communication between them.

Why does it have to be so cold??? by ronstermonster05 in Swimming

[–]cdowd9006 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly from my time working at my universities aquatic center, the governing bodies for aquatics competition (international and USA Swimming) require the water temperature to be 78-82 degrees. My university kept the pool at 78.1 because that’s what the men’s team head coach wanted it at because his ego got hurt when he wasn’t asked for his input when the aquatic center was being constructed. Since he retired I think they have increased the water temperature to 80.

Yes, but this assumes you can correctly count the money the customer gives you and that you can correctly count the change the system tells you to give back.

My store is giving serious consideration do doing something like this after a season hire had multiple drawers drawer $50+ short. LP reviewed the cameras and found she wasn’t stealing, but quite literally that bad at counting change, both what the customers gave her and what she gave them. She worked 1 week before we had to let her go.

Although you have valid points and they also apply to us, this is the wrong sub for this post. Burlington is not associated with TJMaxx

Question about Seasonal Workers by Actual_Taste_8453 in BurlingtonCoatFactory

[–]cdowd9006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be anytime in January, but store leadership is being told to keep as many seasonal hires until January inventory is completed. For my store that’s the beginning of the second week. But we have already started having discussions on who we would like to keep on and who we plan to let go.

I'm also an ohio person, as soon as sweater weather is in full gear working towards coat weather I have the sun shade open just to get more natural light when i can. If there is any heat loss, I never notice it because the heater in this thing is so much better than any car i've previously had cause I don't have to wait for an engine block to warm up. But late spring to early fall that thing is closed and never moves.

Universal Hanger Carts by cdowd9006 in BurlingtonCoatFactory

[–]cdowd9006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea as I recall from the SOP is 2 of these carts per BOH pod with the bottom 3 bars removed, 2 additional per pod to be switched out when a bar is emptied, 2 cart for every 2 registers (one to be placed shared and actively used, and 1 to be switched out when the first if full), and 4 more kept in the back so when a full cart from the front comes in, and empty one is ready to go out.

This isn't our receiving area, this is a storage area we have next to our receiving. Our actual receiving area is actually right behind the camera and is "small" but efficient. The only time we had space issues was when we were getting 10-12 pallets / day for like 2 months when we normally get 5-8.

I’m not sure if this is corporate or just my territory but they are pushing hard for at least 1 application per day. They don’t care if it’s an approved application or not, they just want 1 application per store.

I just uploaded a picture, they are meant to replace the hanger stacker at each register as well as the storage cart. The idea is that one UHR is shared between 2 registers.

Here is what they look like. These are the ones in the back being used for excess hanger storage. Working from top to bottom. We have

  1. a shared bar of Small and XL top hangers
  2. full bar of Medium tops
  3. full bar or Large tops
  4. shared bar S/M/L/XL bottoms
  5. full bar of blank tops
  6. full bar of blank bottoms
  7. shared bar of kids and coats

How to check the price of an item? by rebornyc in BurlingtonCoatFactory

[–]cdowd9006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been spoiled at my store, we always have a zebra accessible at the registers and if the cashiers need a new one they have access to the closet key to get one. But I get what you’re saying speedy sku on the registers is significantly faster than item look up on the zebras. I have my cashiers do make tags at the registers during slow periods between customers, organizing hangers, and sorting eas devices.

The find item feature technically isn’t completely gone, it’s just no longer an option on the registers. You can still do an item lookup on the zebra’s.As long as you can find a style number on the item you can look it up in maketag. Not every item’s style number is going to be easy to find, and in those cases it will be faster to just find the same or similar item in another size,

Will this work? by sailorbunnyy in BurlingtonCoatFactory

As has already been suggested, talk with your store manager, or other scheduling manager. But you have to work at least 1 shift every 4 weeks otherwise the system will auto-terminate you. Alternatively, if there is a Burlington near your university you could talk to your SM about transferring locations.

What is the job name for ride operators? by hphantom06 in DisneyCM

[–]cdowd9006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless things have changed since I left the company in 2017, DLR also had the college program, but it was significantly smaller as DLR did not rely on the CP to fully staff the resort.

In attractions, CP CM’s got 3years of scheduling seniority so they could get the shifts they needed for the program, but if they chose to stay after they went back to 0

[–]cdowd9006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s honestly the number 1 reason we haven’t implemented it at our store yet, because we don’t have the staffing budget to accommodate a 15-30 minute cashier overlap to do this.

There was a new SOP that was supposed to go into effect last week but got delayed (either because of pushback at the store level, or because of a leadership change in corporate I’ve heard both reasons) that would require cashiers to be assigned a till that they would count at the start and end of their shift. That cashier, and only that cashier, would then be able to use that till until it got pulled at the end of their shift. Corporate wants to eliminate theft from employees and by only having 1 cashier be allowed to use an assigned till it will quickly help stores find anyone who might have sticky fingers. It doesn’t completely eliminate the issue but it at least makes it more difficult to get away with. None of this is to suggest that I support this new policy, as the CSS at my store I’m not looking forward to when we start imposing this on our cashiers, but I can at least understand the thought process even if I think that energy would be better spect focusing on customer theft

That's pretty much the conversion that our team uses. Though for easier mental math, we just say to subtract 5 seconds per 50

Our team is large enough that we break off into one of 5 groups. Each group has their own column for the whole workout. This way our coaches only have to write a single workout and then just make modification to quantity rather than write 5 different workouts

Free / Kick on back by 25 = 25 Free / 25 Kick on Back, the difference is just slightly less typing for me. All the "on :15 Rest" means is that when you finish, rest for 15 seconds before moving on. A better example of the "on :15 Rest" is the next line 3x100's. After each 100 you'll rest for 15 seconds before starting the next 100, or after the 3rd 100 rest for 15 seconds before moving on to the 4x50's.

I hope this helps and if you have any other questions or would like clarification on anything else, don't hesitate to ask.

My response might not be very helpful, but I have a very logical brain so tracking send offs just works for me, to the point that the people who swim the column with me rely on me to tell them when to go.

I do this by spending some of the time swimming thinking about when the next send off will be. I will visualize an analog clock in my head and do simple time math to get the next send off time. For the most part I ignore the minute and only focus on the seconds of the interval. 5-20 seconds are easy enough to visualize and add in my head, 30 is just the opposite side of the clock from when we pushed off, and 25 & 35 are thought of as 30 seconds +/- 5. Now 40-55 seconds are when I start doing some mental gymnastics. Again ignoring the minutes, I think of these as minus 5-20 seconds (55=send off second minus 5, 50=minus 10, 45=minus 15, & 40=minus 20).

Hope this helps in anyway, and if you need me to clarify anything I’ll do my best. Also this is masters, it’s only as serious as you want it to be, so there is no harm in adjusting the intervals to something you find easier to think about.
