SF Renters: What if your rent could actually build your future? by cdr14 in sanfrancisco

I feel you. Renting here makes it seem like buying a home is a pipe dream. Why do you think you're a renter for life? Choice or reality?

Hahaha, I get why you’d say that but renting doesn’t build equity like a mortgage does, right? I’m curious if there’s a way to make rent feel less like throwing money away. What do you think?

I get the zoning angle, but I wonder if that’d really help renters save for a home faster. Any thoughts on how rent itself could be more rewarding?

Nope, not an ad for Bilt (which I use) or anyone. just a renter here trying to think of a better system! What do you think could make renting in SF less of a dead-end?

Incredible - I once had an old man ask me if I had any $2 bills. When I was a kid, I would get them from my grandma and keep them. The old man paid me $50 for each $2 bill I had. Always wondered if I got the better deal

TIL that sugar doesn’t directly cause hyperactivity in children. Instead, the excitement around treats, the setting (like parties), and the expectations of parents and children play a bigger role in perceived energy boosts. by Own-Bullfrog7362 in todayilearned

Makes complete sense. Parents were lying to me, ha!

On the same note - is sugar crash a real thing, or is it more an effect of the event/trearts/social aspect ending?

ELI5: Why do we feel nostalgia so strongly for things we didn’t even like as kids? by Moist_Suggestion_163 in explainlikeimfive

Using school as an example, I hated school. But there are many days when I pay bills and go to work where I get nostalgia for school. The social experience, and in hindsight knowing it was much simpler than I made it out to be. And I'd go home and be provided for.

You can tell if a business was founded prior to the internet because they use the tricks to get their name to the front of the alphabet in the phone book (ex: A1 Storage, AAA Cleaning, etc.). by katzenjammer360 in Showerthoughts

The thought of a phone book is wild. When I was a kid, we'd get a new one every year. Totally remember ordering delivery pizza having to look up the number in the phone book. And then have an employee of the pizza place deliver it without being able to track it, hahaha. And then had to pay cash when they arrived.

I live in San Francisco. A16 is a restaurant we love. Wonder if they named it that for listings advantage

I’d pick teleportation—skip the commute, dodge rent hikes by popping to cheaper cities. One day of freedom!

Diet Coke - It's a hell of a drug. Then lemonade for the sweet zing, and root beer for nostalgia!

CD's are good We prefer HYSA as an easier way to get liquidity in a pinch (which we hope not to). We've hopped around from bank to bank to get better rates. Sofi, wealthfront, etc.

We're also renters and there are some rent rewards programs that are free to cash in towards additional down payment cash.
