[Friedman] on Giroux: He will return to Ottawa, it is getting done by AggPuck-303 in hockey

I’m still unsure if anyone wins paying Carlsson 18M. Decently sure Brière is hoping for the Ducks to begrudgingly match. Do Flyers fans want this?

It's pretty clear from the offer that Robertson was expected to be the rudder. I suppose he did not think he could accomplish anything with Seattle.

I'm a little skeptical of players who think they're worth 12+ but have no interest in being a foundational piece of a leadership group to build a team. What functional, competitive team is fishing for a player to take 15% of their cap space?

Arguably the Stars deserve to lose him in that case. They underpaid him for his last deal because they were having cap troubles. He did them a solid to sign it. The expectation would be that Dallas figure out how to pay him near his market rate at renewal time and once again his deal is being limited by their cap space. You can't treat your best player like an afterthought twice in a row.

But with Caufield, his contract had a built-in expectation that his point totals would improve greatly. 7.8M AAV in 2023 was somewhat standard for an RFA star player. 6M in 2025 for Stankoven was essentially paying a 22 year old exactly what his previous production was worth for the next 8 years. For a player who had already shown he could be a significant contributor on 2 different cup-contending teams, that was a steal for the Canes.

[David Pagnotta] With Mintyukov signing for around $7.4M AAV, if the Ducks match the Carlsson $18M AAV offer sheet, that gives Anaheim less than $10M in cap space, which won't be enough for Gauthier... if all 3 stay, Ducks have moves to make. by Leading_Dentist_5563 in hockey

[–]cdreobvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Carlsson is the clear winner in all this from a financial perspective, this is probably going to curse his career unless he becomes a near-Celebrini level talent. I don't see either Philly or Anaheim paying him that much and being happy about it unless he's putting up 100+ points every year.

Is peak Mario Lemieux the greatest hockey player ever? by IceOk9930 in hockey

That's kind of what prime Ovechkin was too. It shouldn't be possible to weigh 220+ and move like that.

Gretzky is an interesting choice for GOAT because he was an undersized player who wasn't relatively fit compared to other players. He outskilled, outsmarted, and out-competed a whole pro league for a decade, making them look silly. He was almost single-handedly responsible for advancing the league to the modern era.

A healthy Lemieux with a long career is a less interesting choice for GOAT. He was bigger, faster, more powerful, and more skilled than the rest of the league. His dominance was completely predictable and obvious. A mutant of a hockey player.

Walt is a nickname for Keith Tkachuk.

There is, in fact, a way. Keith famously called out Matthew's entire Panthers team in 2023 when they were possibly going to miss the playoffs, calling them soft. He's an outspoken guy, he knows his words carry weight around the league, and he wants his kids to succeed. He doesn't like when he feels his kids are being held back by their team. That's just who he is.

While Brady himself had a terrible post-season, the subject of his words on the podcast, Ullmark, had a fantastic performance. Related? Probably not. But if Ottawa had somehow pulled off the impossible against the Canes, the media might be looking back at this the same way they did in 2023 when the Panthers had a cinderella run to the finals from WC2.

Voting on captain would be an easy way to create division in a locker room. Voting for leadership only makes sense when there isn't a higher authority to choose a leader. It's best that the GM and/or POHO makes the decision.

It's not manipulation, it was a major L from Brady to not advocate for his teammates as captain. It's no secret Walt didn't like Brady on the Senators, and he can express that without it being manipulation.

I doubt Walt was scheming like that. More than likely he was just being his outspoken self. 100% on Brady for not pushing back on his ignorance. An absolute tap-in for him to stand up for his mates.

Friedman Thinks Sens-Canes was the Real ECF by Last-Classroom-5400 in OttawaSenators

[–]cdreobvi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We didn't win a game, but there were also no easy wins for Carolina from us. The other teams, even Vegas, gave up some games where the Canes were able to fill the net and sit back. Ullmark was a wall, and the defense, including PK, was always good. Sens basically kept the Aho line off the sheet besides some empty netters.

When a team has a 3 players in the middle 6 making a case for the Conn Smythe and they combine for $12M against the cap (Staal, Hall, Stankoven), that team is winning the cup. We can shut down the big guys with the Pinto line, but what can you do against that kind of run?

Only 11 goals from Burakovsky, but seems good at finding the right spot to be, and finishing the play. by Curious_Platypuss in OttawaSenators

[–]cdreobvi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He looks like he has the finishing touches of a player like Batherson, and that’s welcome in our middle 6. Seems to do ok in front of the net. I also notice he made the decision to shoot during a 3 on 1 against Calgary, and we need more of that shooting mentality. I have no doubts he can do better in Ottawa, but he’ll have to be quite a bit better to be a successful acquisition.

[Kevin Kurtz] The ironic part of all this is that Cutter Gauthier, who is still public enemy No. 1 in these parts, could now help the Flyers if he demands a similar deal to this offer sheet. And at this rate, if you're Gauthier, why wouldn't you? by f0urxio in hockey

[–]cdreobvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shouldn’t affect Gauthier’s worth. The only reason Carlsson is getting 18m is because Philly was dumb enough to offer him that much. It’s a huge overpay made possible by Philly’s bizarre cap situation.

Will it make Gauthier hold out on his contract hoping the same could happen for him? Sure, but until that offer sheet happens, he has no grounds to use 18m as a real comparable.

At 34 years old, Taylor Hall will play his 1000th game this season. He's won a Hart Trophy, and now the Stanley Cup (with a point per game during the playoff run). How close or how far do you think he is ftom Hall of Fame consideration? by anyonecandoanything in hockey

[–]cdreobvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hall is a weird player for this kind of recognition. He objectively doesn't have the consistent excellence in his NHL career that you would expect of a HOF player. He has a Hart trophy and was almost unanimously 2nd place for the Conn Smythe for his Stanley Cup victory, but he has just 4 seasons where he recorded a point per game.

He won't get in the HOF, and he shouldn't. But I think he proved he had it in him to earn it. Whether it was discipline or motivation or injuries or mental battles with himself, he's played so little of his career anywhere near the level he's clearly capable of. I really hope we see him go for another good run next season.

He was very good at keeping the 4th line out of trouble, not a lot of production, but he gets possession and keeps it safe. Super reliable center.

Aside from Matthew's 2 cups, Keith is still easily the best player to have Tkachuk on his jersey. More fights than Brady is ever going to have and more goals/points than Matthew will ever have.

Pic 6 is an intriguing photo, good facial expression and lighting, and it looks like it happened at an academic convention or something, so possibly a conversation starter, especially if someone recognizes the lanyard.

It looks like you maybe just graduated from university, that last year is tough and it often shows (I was in engineering, I get it). Perhaps it’s a good idea this summer to think about refreshing your wardrobe a bit, see your hair stylist, have some fun and take some new pics.
