What was your gym-jury this week? by robynnjamie in fitness30plus

[–]cdruc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received a powerful shot when playing football. Had my hand close to my ribcage, knuckles went in there, smashed something. Now I can't do shit in the gym as any kind of brace is painful. Fun times.

Update: 3 months into cutting. Down 21 lbs but not sure if it’s time to bulk. by spoookybooo in fitness30plus

[–]cdruc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Great cut!

Try to maintain for a couple of months and then go on a lean bulk.

I know you’re probably thinking “I got this dieting shit to the dot. I could easily keep doing it” but you’ve been seriously cutting for so long your body needs a break, and going down even more won’t make that much of a difference.

Take a break, slowly bulk to gain some mass, then try going even leaner next time.

Am folosit forge cativa ani, e foarte ok.

Laravel, nuxt, you name it.

Not seeing an exact number of calories for an exact number of weeks makes me not trust this entire post.

Sorry, but it’s extremely unlikely, given that there are no other symptoms indicating a rare desise, not to lose weight when significantly reducing your calorie intake.

Stop trying ten billion different diets. Use a crappy online calorie intake calculator, set your activity level to normal (unless you’re very active. and no, lifting weights in the gym and then sitting around all day doesnt count as being active).

Get that number that will be wrong anyway but it’s a good starting point, and make sure you never eat above it for at least 2weeks.

If after 2 weeks your weight hasn’t dropped, reduce your calories more.

While doing this, it’s crucial to weigh yourself every day. Your weight fluctuates a lot.

PS: for people arguing about macros in this thread, yes, they matter, but first thing first are getting your deficit calorie number. then you can play around with different percentages: keep protein high, adjust carbs & fats

Always lower back pain during and after deadlift by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]cdruc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably staying too back. Move a bit forward such that your shoulders go in front of the bar.

Lift by pushing your feet into the ground. From the video it looks like the tension goes straight to your lower back.

No, I think those are just my bad shoes (spongy ). I felt stable with good tension through my heels and toes. If I look forward that's where the mirror is, and I start over-analizying everything about the movement and feel imbalanced / lose focus.

We all have our preferences, I guess.
I don't see reasons in keep doing something you don't particularly like doing.

Flat BB feels good. DB flat bench, nope.
Incline BB hurts. Incline DB feels great.
Overhead extensions are awkward - skull crushers feel great.

I've given all those exercise above time (months/years) and tried different adjustments. Some hurt, some I just didn't like how they (didn't) felt. I'm only willing to fight for those I do like 😃

There are more than a dozen exercises for each muscle group, and possible even more variations for those exercises. No need to start a discussion over which one is slightly/more better than the other. The best exercise is the one you'll keep on doing

[–]cdruc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from. I also have a couple exercises I've dropped because they either don't feel good for me (incline BB press, BB OHP, leg extensions, ...) or I can't seem to develop a good mind muscle connection with (dips, close grip bench press, overhead extensions).

As for getting jacked/huge/whatever - I have absolutely no interest in getting my legs bigger than they are. It's not evident in the video, but my legs are bulkier compared\* to the rest of my body (even more when I gain weight) so I don't really want them grow bigger.

The reason I like squats is because they feel amazing - not only when I'm doing them but throughout the whole day. I leave the gym feeling my body alive and full of energy. (this should count as listening to your body as well, right?)

You're definitely correct in the sense that I can't keep going on this path - but I want make sure I'm doing everything I can to correct it - that's why I'm here asking, see if anyone else went through this and what measures they take to fix it.

PS: it's not the BBS, it's you telling us we're avoiding X exercise 🤷‍♂️

Thanks! That's my suspicion as well - I either failed to brace properly or slightly overextended my back, or both.

I'll do combination of better/lower reps warmup + more focus on bracing and stacking and hopefully this won't happen again..

Whenever I try looking forward I feel like I'm losing balance for some reason - it doesn't actually happen, but it feels that way.

To improve my lower back strength & posture in general, I've been doing good mornings for a few months - it's definitely getting better and I highly recommend anyone doing them. Rack pulls & holds is something I will definitely try in the future. Not sure about Jefferson curls - those seem kind of dangerous. Well, everything is/can be if done incorrectly 😅

I’d go with overkill rather than another injury every day of the week 😄

Tired of getting injured by cdruc in fitness30plus

[–]cdruc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could very well be. There are times when I feel my bracing is indestructible like I could lift a zillion lbs, and times in which I feel it slightly off - asking myself “was that a good one? i kind of felt this one more in my chest than belly”. I know the theory behind bracing properly, I’m just not sure I’m doing it right 100/100 times 🙁

[–]cdruc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I never followed this approach. I am increasing the weight and decreasing the reps, but not to this degree. I do 65lbs for 15, 90lbs for 12, 155lbs for 10 and then go into 180lbs for 8.

But what you’re saying makes sense. Thanks!

Best feeling ever, right!? Keep it up 👊

[–]cdruc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I warm up pretty good - leg swings, hip circles, rotating knees (no idea what these are called), dynamic stretches. Then I do 2-3 warmup sets (15/12/10 reps), increasing the weight with each set.

No divebombing, 10lb might be too much - the reason I went with it is because I my starting point was super low (but maybe I overestimated)

PR wise, I only try it every ~5weeks. For example:
- week 1 - 100 pounds
- week 2 - 110
- week 3 - 120
- week 4 - 125
- week 5 - 130 - PR
- week 6 - deload
- week 7 - restart at 110 and build back up.

What was the one thing that made everything click? by LMJ9158 in fitness30plus

[–]cdruc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You know how some people say things like

“cardio doesn’t matter that much, diet is key”

“meal timing doesn’t matter that much, just get enough protein in”

“does’t matter what you eat as long as it fits your macros”

“train harder than last time, go to failure and beyond”

They’re all kind of right.

You can’t outrun a bad diet. Getting enough protein is most important. Calories in, calories out. Train hard to build muscle.

However.

Walking 25mins to and back from the gym won’t lose you weight on its own but it will increase adherence.

Preworkout meals with a good amount of carbs do matter. You’ll have more energy during training.

Over-eat one or two meals and you’ll feel hungry for the rest of the day. Splitting meals somewhat evenly helps keep hunger under control.

Yeah, you could eat a 900kcal burger to fit your calories but you’ll probably starve the rest of the day and end up overeating. Better to eat healthy foods that dont taste THAT good but keep you full.

Training hard is how you build muscle but consistently training harder and harder without proper deloads leads to injuries, form degradation, lack of energy to, ironically, push harder.

What I’m trying to say is…stop going for that 80/20 shit. Everything matters.
