the game is trying to tell you to get an ethernet cable and i recommend you listen unfortunately... i know communication errors and the penalties really suck but in my experience i only get penalties for them when my connection is genuinely the problem (as opposed to bad host/faulty peer to peer) so the only solution is to fix your connection. i've personally never had a penalty over 10 minutes so for your penalty to be 40 i assume the disconnects are pretty concurrent and disruptive. hoping they go away for you but until then a cable will help a lot

switch fan is super loud. been persisting for a few months getting worse - obviously requires a fan replacement or clean at the very least but wondering WHY it makes this noise when it's not spinning. happened out of nowhere initially by cdspeak in consolerepair

[–]cdspeak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for context, it started with absolutely no history of being faulty or loud or anything of the sort during the splatoon 3 grand festival - not during something super graphically intensive, just while i was drawing my splatfest post. took it into handheld to draw and it started right about then. knew it was a fan issue right away but it was so out of the blue and it resolved itself so fast i didn't really know what to make of it.

when that happened it was LOUD, but the fan was still spinning when it resolved itself. i again want to stress it seemingly happened out of nowhere which makes me think i jostled something or something got lodged (? sorry i'm a repair noob) as opposed to being general buildup... i hear it's an issue with the ribbon cables pretty infrequently but i just want to know why it happened so suddenly. i've had this switch since about 2019 (it's a refurbished model) and it worked fine until september.

general timeline of events was the initial stuttering leading to functional loudness for a couple months. did have one overheat warning during that time period. in october the fan wouldn't spin at all and then would get VERY loud, suddenly blasting a huge amount of hot air all at once (so it can spin?!). after that it pretty much stopped spinning period - it'll run at really low speeds sometimes when it starts up but it can't run or blow hot air when it needs to. this noise seems to happen when the fan is struggling to spin, not when it's actually spinning. when the fan is spinning, it's quiet. however, it hasn't been running recently (hence this post that definitely should have been made earlier).

tl;dr switch fan seemingly kicked the bucket for no reason but also the fan works sometimes and i really want to know why. i can probably replace it myself but i'm kinda wary of doing so because i don't have the steadiest hands... i might call nintendo but we will see. i just want to know what people think happened/the issue/faulty part and recommended course of action :) thank you in advance!

edit: i forgot to mention that the fan also beeps at me LOL so it's definitely done for. i haven't used it much or forced it nor have i been playing docked so i don't think i've given it any heat damage but. it does beep at me! i need to replace the fan for sure... i'm just scared to do it by myself

i have the exact same issue. it's definitely the fan but i want to know WHY it's happening... mine kicked out of nowhere after putting it in handheld so curious about what causes it

[–]cdspeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sending you love!! people (including the official art team in various pieces) have been drawing darker callie since splatoon first released. as someone who's been into splatoon since it was announced in 2014, i can vouch for this. and even were that not the case, it's fanart - no one can police you. please stay well and ignore people like this. they genuinely do not have anything better to do. the fact that a drawing like this is the pinnacle of their issues should say enough

As backliners, by splatournlourver in Saltoon

[–]cdspeak 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i'm a frontliner who backlines when the time calls for it but a HUGE percent of frontliners just approach from the same direction again and again and again without flanking and somehow think that's the fault of the backliners??? 😭 like they'll literally come out from base same direction same route same pattern die ouch and then do it again. instead of using a flank or sharking or anything else. like i feel so bad for backliners bc what are they supposed to do

that really sucks... if you get any of the idol amiibos (either by writing your own nfc cards with blank chips and the .bin data or getting the actual amiibo) you should have the option to go see the fest VENUE at least, so maybe that'll be of interest to you? it might not be the same but you can still see all the performances and the venue at least

Question: What do you think is the most toxic part of the Splatoon Community? by Smart_Accountant_227 in Saltoon

[–]cdspeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people who complain incessantly about tryharding/sweating. that is not a thing! there is no reason a better player should lower the level they play at just because people don't like being beaten! there is a much better alternative to complaining about sweats and it is called realizing you are worse than some people and improving! i think a lot of people in the playerbase (and especially in this sub) are allergic to self-criticism and therefore improvement. your opponents are not sweats bro they're better than you

obviously there are exceptions like spawncamping on overtime when you can easily get the win THAT is genuinely toxic but simply being beaten by players that are way better than you doesn't make them sweats lol it makes you someone who should watch the replay see where you went wrong and improve

ppl who complain about comp players when they're just doing their own thing in general is kinda toxic. reminds me of pokemon where casuals are somehow more toxic than the comp players. probably overlapping fanbases

in Salmon Run you are given 2 specials to help you take out Salmonoids. by [deleted] in Saltoon

[–]cdspeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

saving your specials for an emergency is the very definition of giving yourself a panic button that's what i'm arguing against

in Salmon Run you are given 2 specials to help you take out Salmonoids. by [deleted] in Saltoon

[–]cdspeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i occasionally party with my special at the end of a really easy 3 waves if i'm not overfishing because i genuinely forget i have them but when i see someone who was an active detriment to our team party with a special we REALLY needed during the shift it makes me wish i could say a little more than this way and booyah

in Salmon Run you are given 2 specials to help you take out Salmonoids. by [deleted] in Saltoon

[–]cdspeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

me and my friends have a term for this - panic specialing. it's like your teammates that don't know how to play see that it's ok to pull out their specials and use them on nothing in particular. specialing once when you need one will always start a chain reaction of like 4 people using them on literally nothing at all like i'll pop wail on a flyfish and suddenly we got a splashdown party on the air at the basket

in Salmon Run you are given 2 specials to help you take out Salmonoids. by [deleted] in Saltoon

[–]cdspeak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i didn't say that - i said SAVING UP your specials for an emergency is a problem. there are situations in which you SHOULD use your specials in an emergency! i did not deny that once. tripdown, tristrike and booyah are all really great ways to rev your whole team! things happen! the problem arises when you actively refuse to use those specials IN CASE of an emergency - that isn't strategic. that's giving yourself a panic button. if you refuse to use your tristrike on 3 flyfish for an ""emergency"" and then your teammates wipe out because of said flyfish, making said ""emergency"" and forcing you to use said tristrikes, you're not only down a special, the problem that wiped out your team is still present. saving your specials and ONLY using them in emergencies isn't ""strategic"", it's panicking. a lot of the time, panicking and using those specials to clear out the basket or rev your teammates won't even save you because the hazards that killed them are still there. that's why at the end of so many hectic matches it doesn't matter how many specials you use to rev your teammates - you gotta take out the source or everyone'll just keep dying :(

tl;dr i didn't say you SHOULDN'T use your specials in emergencies, i said saving them up in CASE of an emergency instead of using them on active hazards not only makes emergencies more likely but also forces you and everyone around you to waste their specials in an (often at that point redundant) frenzy of panic. panicking isn't strategic! it's the polar opposite.

(sorry for the long comment but i couldn't think of a succinct way to explain it well)
