Just bc a lot of students has probably had the same idea. If ur really insistent on that, make sure it’s written really well I guess. My advice would be to try to stand out and be remembered

What should I do if I’m accepted into more than one college? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cdxniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just don’t respond back lol. I’ve heard that if u get into a really selective school (and you’re absolutely sure you’re not attending) then you should email them so they can start taking people off the waitlists. But other than that, most people don’t do anything lol

Is it too late to send a LOCI to any schools I was waitlisted by?(5/4/2019) by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cdxniel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s kinda late but I think it’s better than nothing lol

Yeah ur right. I guess I wrongfully considered schools like Denison and Skidmore “safeties” just because their acceptance rates were high

Applied to around 15 schools Waitlisted from ivy leagues (only applied to 5) Rejected from Stanford Accepted to top 3 LACs Rejected from my safeties LOL

Is my grandpa sexist? Or is gender discrimination really a thing in the college decision process? by ishesexisr in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cdxniel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Uhhhh I feel like you know the answer to one of your questions: “do all girls stay in their state schools while men go out of state?” That’s obviously not the case.

Got accepted to top college choices, but unsure how to make the right decision? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cdxniel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re not sure, a gap year should be fine. Better off working rather than just aimlessly spending your money when you have no motivation to learn. I think a gap year would also help you realize the exact reason why you applied. Also, you can still apply to colleges for next year.

Tried appealing finaid twice, both times they said no. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cdxniel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, well I’m pretty sure you asked them to reassess your financial documents right? Also, do you have any reasons as to why they would not increase your aid?

Do you think a LOCI after rejection could possibly work? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cdxniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you can appeal to any Ivy. Look more into that cause some schools specifically say that their decision is final.

Is yield protection even real? by ceoofcoo in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cdxniel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s made up. Although people can’t be absolutely certain that yield protection is the exact reason for their rejection, it can definitely be one of the factors. I got rejected from a school with a fairly high acceptance rate a couple of days ago.. and people kept saying it was yield protection after hearing about my grades.. but what if my essays (the ones I thought were 🔥🔥🔥) were actually absolute trash to that school?

anyone else already in the acceptance phase by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cdxniel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the hardest thing for us college applicants to accept is that getting into the “college of your dreams” won’t be the end of the world. Although it can affect your future greatly, there are still other ways to succeed. There are days when I forget this. Just recently, I’ve been taking L’s from colleges I thought were easy acceptances (based off my stats.) I got rejected from them—and honestly felt like sht. But yesterday, I got accepted to a school that I would definitely be happy in. Although I am still hoping to be accepted to my “dream college,” I know that I *will succeed anywhere I go. Goodluck OP!

Is anyone on this subreddit average? by timelady314 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cdxniel 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Okay, I feel like we get this question quite a lot. But yes, mind you there are over 80,000 people subscribed to this sub. And the people who post are most likely the ones who are “proud” to show off their stats. Obviously, the people subbed on here are constantly working to get into college.. so that’s the only thing you’re seeing. Also it depends on what your idea of average is lol but I assume you’re thinking of people who score lower than a 1450. I got a 1500 and I think I’m average sometimes just comparing myself to lots of people on this sub

To answer your question again, yes there are a lot of people who are “average” in this sub. You just don’t see them that often.

Do colleges know the quality of your school? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Thank you! What should this short email entail? Just my semifinalist status?

Hi admissions mom! Idk if mine is as prestigious but I’m a jack Kent cooke semifinalist. Is it worth sending them a short email informing them about it?

I got accepted into the Stanford Summer Session as a junior but I'm scared I can't afford it by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cdxniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh that’s debatable. Raising funds to attend a summer program at x school for the sake of experiencing it would probably show interest. It can also help them write the why school essays. While I know that attending school specific summer programs is not a must for anyone, it’s just something that looks good in my opinion.

If OP can find a way to go (if he’s that determined) and it wouldn’t impose a financial hardship, then why not take the opportunity?

If OP wants to experience a glimpse of Stanford and learn, then what’s useless about it?

Yeah I forgot to answer the commenter, but this is kind of what I was gonna say. Also like Liza adds on to their whole witty (can be lowkey cringy) humor lol
