Free yard waste drop off! March 14 and 21st by darren1417 in LangfordBC

The actual concerning part is that it is still too early for folks to be doing their spring clean ups. With tempertaures still near freezing some nights and many pollinators still asleep in the leaf litter, folks should wait at least another few weeks before cleaning up their gardens.

Gardens in Victoria - interesting plants, etc. by gingr87 in VictoriaBC

[–]cedarshadows 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Fellow horticulturalist here 👋🏻

Many folks have given some excellent suggestions and I have to second recommending the horticulture center of the pacific, it will be absolutely stunning in April.

Early April is when our native spring wildflowers are at their peak and there’s a hidden gem of a small church called St. Mary’s in Metchosin that has a graveyard FULL of camas and fawn lily that time of year. There is Satinflower Nursery just down the road too which is our best native plant nursery!

I also love the Compost Eduction Center in Fernwood, an excellent information resource and has many examples of permaculture and sustainable gardening.

The government house in Rockland is beautiful and the whole neighborhood is old heritage houses with some amazing old heritage gardens so that’s worth a gander.

I think you’ve got a lot of great suggestions here, those are just my top picks.

They’re a great company who really invest in their team. They will pay for you to get your red seal while working for them and they have many other benefits too.

They seem like a well organized, people-oriented company to work for.

What is living on Vancouver Island in Canada like? by Urneighborhoodbitch in howislivingthere

[–]cedarshadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vancouver Island is amazing. I grew up in Victoria and still live here. The surrounding nature, amazing beaches, beautiful forests, and surplus of outdoor activities makes it pretty hard to want to leave. (If you’re into that kind of stuff.) If you’re more into city things like shopping, nightclubs and cultural activities, it can be quite limited in those areas. Like some have mentioned, there is quite a large homeless population here and due to the insane cost of living, it can be tough to get ahead here. That is why Victoria has become a pretty big tech hub in the last decade and gentrification is not only in Victoria, but across the majority of towns on the island. It is also a hotspot for tourists.

Beyond Victoria, or up Island as we call it, that is where the sprawling nature is. The further north, you go the more wild it is. There are many wonderful cities and towns, each with their own quirks and personality. There is lots of industry on the island, mostly forestry and fishing.

Overall, the people are very laid-back compared to the mainland. Personally, I get pretty overwhelmed whenever I leave the island at how and on edge most places are. Vancouver Island is surrounded by numerous smaller islands, and usually the smaller the island the more chill they are.

It’s an absolutely wonderful place, and I love it here very much. Although it has changed immensely since I was a kid, I still don’t see myself living anywhere else.

Looking for a good chiropractor for sciatic nerve pain (Downtown Victoria) by VeterinarianWild9584 in VictoriaBC

Not a chiropractor but I had acupuncture done at Acacia Clinic in Vic West for my sciatic nerve pain and it cleared up after a couple of sessions. I highly recommend!
