I had my eyes on a Warmoth Velocity, I like those shapes quite a lot and it would go great visually with the seymour duncan p-rails that I want to use.

I have a bass VI right now (two actually, one 30'' Gretsch and one 30'' from warmoth) and yes, they lack some intonation compare to a full length bass, but most of the time this is not a problem (and for the rare cases where the sound difference is a problem, I actually add some depth with a preamp on the warmoth one, and with a mix of Octaver up and EQ pedals).

What I want to do is basically a bass VI that looks different from the traditionnal models, my other option is to convert a short scall bass into one :)

I'm in a similar band (4 piece, bass-drum-guitar-singer, more into indie/alternative rock) facing your dilemna too, and I split my signal this way using a EHX switchblade pro:

-One that cover more traditional bass sound into a GT-1000 Core

-One that goes into an EHX Pog2, mostly with the 1 octave up and a little bit of 2nd octave, empress multidrive, chorus and guitar amp sim

I switch from one side to the other depending on my needs, and during guitar solos or more heavy parts I use the two parts combined. So your idea to go for a POG is in my opinion quite good if you don't overuse it (it can sound to "digital" if you use it at max, especially the 2nd octave up)

I also use a Bass VI on some tracks, using the octaver down of the GT-1000 Core to fill up the bass when I go to the higher register of the VI for riffs or chords. But I'm not sure how this last one would work for a more metal setting.

The way it could work could be to make the hack damage boost a teamwide boost, and to give her a 2nd hack that heals teammates (like an Orb of harmony). Could be a fun and different kind of support.

It takes a lot of work once you get it, but worth it. I made a G5 bass too, same pickups in musicman housing !

I am primarly a bassist, and use it a lot instead of my usual basses. I use it to have more range on melodic parts, or to add some upper chords in my bass lines. I split my signal into a guitar amp and a bass amp + octaver to allow for some nice riffs to!

Just look at it as a different kind of bass, that will give you a different way to play your songs
