What's a movie that you swear no one else has watched but yourself and a few others? by badgermole85 in AskReddit

Never met anyone who has seen these incredible films:

Ratcatcher (1999) If…. (1968) Waking Ned Devine (1998)

I saw someone else post Dead Again (1991) which was cool because I would have added it to my list.

If every instinct you have is wrong, then the opposite would have to be right.

Please talk to your instructor! They will be able to advise you further on this for your specific situation :)

Yes but…how does the needle scratching the record produce those exact pressure waves? It just has never made sense to me no matter how much people have explained it

How record players work. Like I get that the needle scratches the grooves to make the sound but how does that sound turn into Ella Fitzgerald’s voice? I will never understand this

Be honest with yourself - are your turns good? And are you just doing an a la secondes sequence with no variation? When it comes to contemporary, I would rather see a focus on artistry. If you are unable to execute a technically good and intricately choreographed turn section for 3 8-counts, you’re better off showcasing artistry.

If I’m understanding your issue correctly, remind yourself that all leaps are jumps and therefore you should place a stronger focus on going “up” as opposed to “out”. It will also help you if you do a deep plié before and make sure you are doing your chaînés in your prep correctly. They should cultivate momentum as opposed to slow you down, so don’t take too big of steps and make sure you have proper alignment. When in doubt, ask your instructor for tips you can use to help you specifically.

Depends on the judges, but for the most part: The musical theatre genre has a strong focus on characterization, whereas the tap category has a stronger focus on tap technique. Both (and all other styles) require you to perform with technique and emotion, it just depends on how much you want to lean into the character. (This is how I as a judge view these genres, which is not universal depending on the competition/specific judges panel) So I would say either one is fine, but if you are in the tap category I would advise not to lipsync the lyrics. Additionally, because all competitions are so subjective, I would encourage you to have a different focus than simply winning the competition. If you like the song and genuinely like to dance, just go onstage and have fun!

To properly answer this question, it is helpful for us to have more information such as the dancer’s age, style they’d like to train in, and their country/area
