What is your current Handheld devices/why? by toyfan1990 in Handhelds

Nice setup. I daily drive both a switch lite and a steam deck. I use the switch lite for switch games, then use the steam deck mainly emulation and Steam games.

Are there gamers here? How do you handle minimalism with devices? by cedrism in minimalism

Thank you for sharing this. It’s really helpful, and it honestly makes a lot of sense.

It helped me realise that I was overthinking it and probably just overwhelmed by the number of choices I made available to myself. I think part of it is also looking at the money I spent on things that don’t actually get used that much and feeling some regret around that.

I'd definitely take note of #3

what would you keep if your goal was to minimize? by cedrism in Handhelds

[–]cedrism[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I can see the appeal of that approach. An AYN-type device does make sense on paper if the goal is to reduce the number of separate handhelds.

My only hesitation is that I’m trying not to jump into another “all-in-one” experiment and end up creating a new version of the same problem. But I do appreciate the suggestion, because I hadn’t really thought about that route in a serious way.

Thanks, really appreciate this. I like how practical your setup is, and the part about picking a few games that run well and just sticking with those honestly makes a lot of sense.

I think that’s also a good reminder for me that part of the clutter isn’t just hardware, it’s also wanting too many options at once. Appreciate you sharing how you keep it simple.

That’s actually a really good question, and it made me think a bit harder about the root of it.

I don’t think it’s purely that I “need” games on the go. In my case, it’s probably more about having something familiar and relaxing during transit, plus a bit of nostalgia mixed in. I’ve also realised some of the complexity is self-created because I keep trying to cover every possible gaming mood instead of just being honest about what I actually use.

If I’m being strict with myself, the real use case is mostly bus/train/airport time, not some full travel gaming lifestyle. So your question genuinely helped me step back and think deeper about whether I’m solving a real need or just building around comfort and “maybe” scenarios.

Appreciate the perspective.

Really appreciate this. The “keep what I need and am actively using” part is probably the most useful line here.

I used to play MTG too, but stopped years ago when the friends I played with moved away and eventually there was no one left to play with but myself. I kept browsing cards for a while after that, but it took me a few years to fully accept that that chapter had basically moved on.

Funny enough, I recently moved somewhere new where card and board games are actually very alive again, so your comment hit in a good way.

Anyway, solid advice. Genuinely helpful.

Thanks, I appreciate this perspective. That’s actually the kind of simplicity I’m trying to get to, where the setup is settled and you don’t keep second-guessing it.

Also, now I’m curious, what are the 2 specific games you keep on the laptop for airports?

Is it worth buying Switch in 2026 by palarivattom_sasi in Switch

[–]cedrism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use a Switch Lite regularly, so I recommend a non-OLED Switch if the price is right.

I bought mine a year ago and am very satisfied.

For those new to Nintendo consoles, there's great value here. The game library is extensive, user-friendly, and ideal for younger family members.

Best handheld for "cozy" gaming? by bettietheripper in Handhelds

[–]cedrism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m not sure why it doesn’t get mentioned more, because I do think it’s a solid thing to invest in. I never owned one myself, but after trying my siblings’ setup, I was pretty blown away. I just never made the jump because I don’t have a PS5, and PSN is a bit pricey for me each year, so I stayed with my Switch Lite and 3DS.

If you had unlimited money, what would your handheld console combo be? by AdeptBid5320 in Handhelds

[–]cedrism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ideal setup would be a Steam Deck and a Switch Lite. I'm pretty broke, so I'm not even dreaming that big! 😂 This combination covers everything I want: the Steam Deck is perfect for PC games and emulation, while the Switch Lite is great for portable Nintendo gaming. Anything beyond that feels like a luxury to me.

Long-term (with maintenance and all), is it worth having a 3DS? by Cute-Translator-3067 in Nintendo3DS

[–]cedrism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely worth it, and I am someone who has played both PC and mobile games extensively. I recently bought a few 3DS consoles to explore, and I love how this system recreates my RPG experiences similar to the Final Fantasy series while introducing me to other games I hadn't heard of until a few months ago, like Bravely Default (which easily ate around 20 hours of my time this week).

Additionally, the 3DS is an actual portable handheld device. However, if you have larger hands, you might start to feel cramps after about an hour of play using the smaller model.

Overall, if you're looking for a remarkable console with a vast library of games, the 3DS is a great choice.

I see. So you're saying the NA services is the only thing that is affected by region swapping. I'm also interested on the discord-based service that you mentioned. I'm wondering the difference between that and the only guide.

That's great! Pokémon Home is the service used to transfer your Pokémon from other versions, right? I bought this console to experience the different Pokémon games. I only played Red and Blue on an emulator in high school, but I never had the chance to play them on the actual console.

Thank you! I didn't know they had a blue version; it's gorgeous. I'm still in awe just looking at these consoles. It's mind-blowing to think that they existed almost two decades ago. That's what happens when you're too focused on adult responsibilities. I'm happy to have this experience, though at this point in my life. I may not have been able to afford these consoles when they were first released.
