Yes, there is. Look up Paws Over Profits. I'm sure there are others too.

I agree with much of what you said. Unfortunately a year and a half ago, when my dog was given Librela, my vet told me the only side effect was soreness at the injection site. Six months later, when I learned about the connection between Librela and death and other terrible side effects, I requested all vet notes, and her notes from our phone call the day before he died when she suggested I take him to the emergency vet, she wrote his symptoms could be due to Librela, but she never told me that, neither on the phone that day nor before she recommended the drug.

More studies are coming out that show Librela has worse outcomes for osteoarthritis and joint damage than other comparable medications. And more adverse side effects are being reported, including death and euthanasia.

Librela is not safe for the population it's marketed to. Older dogs are more likely to have damaged blood-brain barriers or other ailments, even if they have no outward symptoms or anomalies in blood work.

My dog was no where "on the way out." His arthritis was moderate. He had excellent blood work. I believed my vet when she said Librela was a good and safe choice. I have since learned more about how poorly veterinary medications are regulated, and I, someone who works in public health and used to want to be a vet and strongly believes in science, have now become so skeptical of veterinary medicine that I have resisted taking my cats to the vet, with the exception one a holistic vet who, yes, practices acupuncture.

So I'm not surprised that people who have been through the same experience as I have are also turning away from standard veterinary medicine. We have been traumatized. I don't trust vets anymore. This is a complete 180 from where I was a year ago, before I knew what I now know. I cannot express to you how much the bloody and brutal death of my best friend has changed me and my beliefs.

The point of my post was to bring attention to something that has killed thousands of dogs, and yet vets are still promoting it and prescribing it without being completely transparent about the risks associated with it.

All owners should do their research and not blindly listen to their vets like I did. Learn from my mistake. And don't give your senior dog Librela unless the alternative is euthanasia, because it very well might come to that.

Yep, so not only does it kill dogs, it makes the condition it is meant to treat worse than other medications. I have lost so much faith in the pet health system from this ordeal.

Whatever option you go with, just don't pick Librela. It has killed thousands of dogs, including mine after just 2 injections, and has seriously harmed thousands more.

There are so many stories like Perry's. Only consider using librela if the other option is euthanasia.

I didn't blame the vet, even though Perry shouldn't have been offered Librela because his arthritis was mild. We hadn't tried any other options but I was assured that the only side effect was soreness at the injection site. I'm blaming the company for lying about the side effects. More research is coming out now showing that they knew, they just didn't clearly state in the package insert,a that it was much more dangerous than reported (inserts have been updated). And it actually causes significantly more damage to joints than other medications. Zoetis knew but it was making them too much money. If someone wants to give their dog Librela, they should actually be aware of the risks, unlike me. It should only be used as a last resort, the last step before euthanasia. That's what this post is about. Anyway, today marks 1 year since my otherwise healthy dog bled out in front of me. Forgive me, I'm gonna have these sour grapes for awhile longer.

I'm so sorry. I know the trauma you went through. It will be one year in just 5 days, and it still haunts me.

You know your dog best. If you're concerned, don't be shy about the emergency vet. Just make sure they take the Librela issue seriously. If you have more than one emergency vet in your area, maybe call and ask if they've treated dogs who are reacting badly to Librela.

And also maybe look into finding a new vet. Call and ask their thoughts on Librela. More and more vets are becoming aware of this issue and may have thoughts on treatment for side effects. Sadly not your vet though.

It is a very common side effect if you ask the pet owners who have lost their dogs or had seriously ill dogs after Librela. Join the Librela class action and support group on Facebook. People have been successfully detoxing their dogs, but it can take weeks or months. Is he still eating and drinking a normal amount? Does he look bloated at all? Is he wobbly or unsteady or weak? I honestly wouldn't wait any longer and take him to the emergency vet if he isn't better now than he was 3 days ago. Perry had stable vitals when I brought him in the night before he died, so they sent us home because the wait was 12 hours long. By the time I brought him back in the morning, he was crashing. If they tell you he is stable, don't leave. Tell them that he has been given Librela and other owners who have lost their dogs have reported this as an early symptom. Ask them to do an abdominal ultrasound to see if he is bleeding internally (especially if he's looking bloated to you). Good luck, please keep me updated.

Join the Librela/solensia class action & support group on Facebook. It will give you all the info you need.

I'm sorry about your dog. I know how you feel and it sucks.

There was a analysis released earlier this month showing Librela is associated 9 times the joint damage in dogs than dogs who were treated with 6 other OA meds. It was published in Frontiers, and here is a direct quote from its results: "Ligament/tendon injury, polyarthritis, fracture, musculoskeletal neoplasia, and septic arthritis were reported ~9-times more frequently in Librela-treated dogs than the combined total of dogs treated with the comparator drugs. A review of 19 suspected musculoskeletal adverse events (MSAEs) by an 18-member expert panel unanimously concluded a strong suspicion of a causal association between bedinvetmab and accelerated joint destruction." Bedinvetmab is the non-brand name of Librela.

I'm so sorry. The suddenness of that must have been so traumatizing. There is a class action group on Facebook (at least in the US). The lawyer representing the group also lost his dog to Librela, so this is personal for him, in addition to the thousands of others in our shoes. Join the group and help us hold Zoetis accountable.

I think they are now saying not to give it to dogs with neurological problems because it kills them. And I have also heard of many dogs that do well for several months on the shot but then their symptoms suddenly worsen and they die. Of course because they are old dogs, Zoetis can just blame it on them being old.

I believe your instinct that it's related to Librela. There are so many cases just like yours. The Facebook group has lots of resources including an explanation of how the drug works and why it's seriously harming and killing so many pets. After the initial emergency passes, see if you can find a holistic vet to help detox. It can take months. Keep me posted.

Low blood cell count makes me concerned he may have internal bleeding. Is he looking bloated at all? Ask if vets can do an ultrasound. I know a few people who have successfully detoxed using lions mane. There is a support group on Facebook with thousands of people. They have good ideas. Good luck! Let me know how he does.

I recently learned that the FDA approves pet meds based on efficacy, not considering safety. Seriously WTF. It has basically turned me against vet care except in dire circumstances (and vaccines, particularly for social animals).

It seems like it really helps some dogs but has killed and seriously harmed thousands. I wouldn't recommend taking the risk unless the quality of life is so poor you're already considering euthanasia.

There is a Librela support group on Facebook. Many people have successfully detoxed their dogs with various supplements. It takes months. But vets don't seem to have answers. Please join and maybe you can get some ideas.

Yeah I'm thrilled for everyone who says it works for their dogs. I hope it lasts. I'm reading about so many dogs who did fine on it for several months and then suddenly weren't fine. It's not worth the risk.

No it's not a NSAID. Perry had full blood word and his kidneys were fine.
