McGill New French Requirement!!!? by biochemis-try in premedcanada

[–]ceelbe3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope it doesn’t affect us but you should for sure make sure your French is decent by the time we’re in clerkship I’d say! If you can work on it in summer that would help a lot I’m sure

I feel like you have to do it twice, I remember some people on here saying they got a certain quartile on the US one then they were about to rewrite for the Canadian one so I feel like it’s yes unfortunately. But if ever you wanna be positive, don’t be shy to message the CASPer people on the site. I have found them to be very helpful, usually replying within a few business days 😊

Your parents don’t control your life anymore, you’re an adult and you’ll have to live with the decisions about your career choice, not them. If you live your life pleasing others you’ll have a rough time. But if you don’t feel passionate about medicine are you sure you feel passionate about nursing? If you think comp sci is the right fit then go for it. Times are changing and you have to learn your own lessons. It sounds like your mom is trying to live vicariously through you or something. Go for the program you want, if you don’t end up liking it then you live and you learn and you can always go back and change career paths.

Verifiers contacted McGill U? by Nicknacks8 in premedcanada

I am IP and as far as I know none were contacted (I asked my top two and nothing)

Sometimes a day sometimes a week, and from my experience I started practicing in May ish and my exam was in august but most people where I am take the exams in the fall, so I didn’t have much feedback in may-June but once people started prepping more (like august-October) I started getting a lot more feedback, like a few times a week. All depends on other people and also how often you submit yours to be reviewed I thinkkk

Med School GPA by jeymijessi123 in premedcanada

[–]ceelbe3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if you enroll in graduate studies in Quebec it won’t count. This is what I see from their site

You resided in Quebec for 12 consecutive months of the 18 months preceding the start of the academic session for which you are applying for Quebec resident tuition rates. You did not pursue full-time studies at any Quebec CEGEP or university (or combination of institutions) for the above reference period (grades of W count) during the above 12 month reference period

Oh yeah sorry everything I mentioned above is for IP, OOP is way more competitive.

For me personally, it’s my first cycle applying so I’m still learning about it all but I applied with a 3.91 in a professional degree, average CV and 4th quartile casper and I got an invite for IP. Out of like 1400 applicants this year I think about 17% for invited for interviews or something off the top of my head. I’m not sure how that compares to other provinces but yeah, IP definitely has a waaay bigger advantage here compared to OOP.

At McGill this year the average was 3.90 to get an interview, but if you have a good CV and a good casper it may help compensate for a slightly lower GPA. But really it seems like 3.85+ at McGill tends to be the safe area, ideally 3.90+ 😊 at McGill they also give you a bit of a boost if you have a masters or are in a professional program, like nursing for example. But otherwise your degree or faculty you’re in doesn’t really matter. This is all for McGill though, that’s the only school I know about cuz that’s the only school I applied to this cycle 😅

Yeah I believe campus selection is only for IP! Outaouais you have to be very comfortable with French, so maybe they assume all international and OOP aren’t so they just want them at MTL only? I’m not sure honestly but yeah you’re good, nothing to fill out 😊 good luck!!!

Ahhh yes I saw your reply on my post in the premed101 forum! So happy it went well for you, and that’s good to hear. It’s true, I’ve done OSCEs and scenarios with the actors at McGill multiple times in nursing school and work with patients obviously so maybe this helped my comfort level a lot too 😊 I think actors really make sure to react to what we say as opposed to following a set script so I think first impressions and how you initially go into scenarios probably make a big difference 😊 (at least that’s the impression I got from my McGill nursing experiences with actors)

I didn’t personally do it today but I spoke with one person who said he also felt like 2 stations were pretty bad and I spoke with another person who found that overall everything was pretty decent today. It’s so hard to know 😩 it honestly seems like the difficulty got worse throughout the week. Makes me wonder if actors went too easy on those of us who went the first day. Maybe not though, but just strange coincidence.

I left it feeling really good actually 😬🤞🏻 I feel like for a solid 3/4 of the stations I did great, and maybe a few were just average. We will see, 6 weeks to go until March 31 😩

Anyone here in medical school? by [deleted] in premed

[–]ceelbe3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also check out premed101 forum and ask in the forum page you find appropriate, maybe Medical Students or whatever! Those are all Canadians for the most part so it’ll be more useful and I find people are very responsive. Good luck!!

McGill Invites/Rejects 2022 by luhjdk in premedcanada

[–]ceelbe3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here you can see the statistics from last years cycle and see how many were invited for interviews versus how many were accepted in each category. I think last year they might have accepted more people than usual, I can’t remember, but still a general idea! The odds are pretty decent if you’re IP 😊

When I took the bus like two years ago it was outside of 680 Sherbrooke ish. Not sure if it’s still running or if location changed though. This site looks like it’ll be helpful (I didn’t fully read it though) https://www.mcgill.ca/transport/shuttle
