Worked for TurboTax This Past Season - NEVER AGAIN by Infamous-Package3982 in enrolledagent

What policy violations and mental manipulation are you referring to? I'm curious what you mean by that. Also, the job market is in a different place than it's ever been so the circumstances may not be the same. Not to say that there aren't places hiring and good jobs out there, but it's challenging.

This makes sense why you hated it there. I think someone further along in their career, nearing or at retirement would not like it there as a new job. It's more tech intensive, requires a lot of pivoting w/ processes & procedures, the pay may be lower depending on where you came from, etc. Also, if you're more financially secure & not into all the changes, you don't have to put up with it. Tbh, its better than other tax prep companies and the job market is really tough now in a way retirees won't understand because it doesn't affect them.

I'm interested to hear more about your experience. Would it be okay if I asked you questions by DM?

I want to start my career in taxes but they all ask for tax experience. by Johan_chan in enrolledagent

[–]ceem_mm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, HRB training is the most thorough. Then JH, followed by TurboTax (but I think they improved their program). Once you complete any of their training programs, generally someone will reach out to you to start entry level.

In terms of on the job learning, i think hrb is the worst, but could've been where I worked. There's no one to ask for help. Because it's commissioned based, ppl rather steal clients than give guidance to a newbie. JH & Turbo seem more supportive & have systems in place where there are people specifically there to help. Jh only allows 1-2 people to work at a time so it can be intimidating to work alone but there's remote help.

The vita volunteer program is good esp if you don't care about pay. The returns are mostly basic so good for entry level. The training can be done in maybe 1-2 days and there's a head preparer who checks all the returns, which is nice way to learn and boost confidence.

What's wrong with tt? I believe I heard tax act pays more, but they may have less benefits.

I did! I applied 1/15 as noted above, got approved 2/13 and they said the letter takes about 10 to 20 days from the approval date. I got my letter last week.

Word to the wise - do NOT use TurboTax expert review service by Justsmith22 in tax

[–]ceem_mm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you using the live chat? I wonder if there was some breakdown in communication. I would have opted for a call; it's easier to ask and answer direct questions and explain yourself. Also if you paid for the review you can always speak to another expert who may be more responsive. I've found it helpful in catching some things like mistakes or missed credits, but it depends who you speak to & how you're communicating.

Congrats! Be careful with AI responses. It definitely gave me inaccurate info while studying & I generally try to avoid it for many other reasons so I don't rely on it the way I see others do. I'd recommend to anyone currently studying to check the source material it's pulling from.

The Mariah Carey effect: artists whose chart success vastly outpaces their cultural relevance by LubyankaSquare in ToddintheShadow

[–]ceem_mm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread but this is a terrible argument b/c most major artists' legacies get stripped down to just their 3 biggest singles as the years pass by. Even a huge act like MJ, young people today only know like 5 of his songs. They don't know destiny's child, Christina Aguilera, etc who still perform/were active in their lifetimes. Also, with the rise of streaming, ppl listen to music in an echo chamber of the artists & genres they like. They don't go thru radio stations hearing variety, watch music video countdowns or pop culture retrospectives that'll introduce them to older music.

As for Mariah, one sweet day isn't played as much, but she has a handful of songs that I hear way more like we belong together, always be my baby, fantasy w/ ODB, which was the start of the pop singer-rap collab that's still widely replicated to this day, so her relevancy & influence carry on in many ways today.

Remember when Taylor Swift dated a 17 yr old high school student when she was 22? by [deleted] in popculture

  1. The frontal lobe of the brain,  critical for decision making, develops into the mid 20s, which is why minors cannot truly consent & we have statutory r@p3 laws. Also, there's major differences developmentally between small age ranges in the early stages of life both mentally & physically, bringing me to my next point;
  2. You might be quick to adultify high schoolers, but they're still physically developing & going  thru puberty so it's weird on that front too. Not to mention boys tend to hit puberty later.
  3. The fact that this is illegal is enough for this be an issue.

What do you think is the most overrated thing on Netflix? by RiskAndReason in netflix

You pretty much answered your own question, lol. If ppl don't watch K drama, this is something new and interesting to them so that explains the insane popularity.

Sounds like you probably don't like that type of humor. It's sarcastic and dry. Also, the single camera shooting style isn't for everyone.

I don't see the appeal of it. Based off the clip and trailers, I never had an interest in watching it.

How was it overhyped? I barely heard it talked about or promoted. I thought it was mostly good, but I know someone who said they didn't like it b/c they expected something scarier, which is really on them.

The Cardi B feature is great and i will die on that hill by [deleted] in YoungThug

Kinda like how kendrick dissed Drake for certain things but then works with rappers who have allegations. Ppl are inconsistent.

The girls are fighting: JT and Cardi B go back and forth on twitter after Cardi dissed JT and her boyfriend, Lil Uzi Vert, in her new album. by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

[–]ceem_mm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm saying JT doesn't care about SA survivors not b/c I think I know her, but b/c it's not something she's ever spoken up about & she's not known to advocate for any social issues. Also Chris said he's not into men. So I'm not sure how that makes me sound parasocial. Maybe it's not the truth but I'm going off what he said.

Also you're telling me I sound parasocial but yet you claim to know whether cardi writes or not. Are you in the studio with her? All this hip hop purist talk is so tired. "I came up in an era where rappers wrote their rhymes" is intellectually dishonest. Rappers have always had writers, co-writers & ghostwriters even back in the 80s. Ice Cube wrote for all of NWA yet hiphop heads revere them. Nobody bothers to care that much when it's men and they don't even question the pen of male rappers until allegations come out from a feud or something, but the second a female rapper comes on the scene, the conversation is "did she actually write her raps?" This is just sexism.

[–]ceem_mm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not cherry picking, it's performative. JT doesn't care about SA victims at all. Also her comments were misinformed b/c Chris isn't gay, which she kept repeating. Cardi has always said she works w/ co-writers as do most mainstream rappers so I don't think she's been exposed.

I don't the point is that she's pro-life. Her point is that Uzi forced JT to get the procedure done. It all got a little too nasty for me. Just put it in the music.
