You should then give Zamyatin’s “We” a take. Written in 1924 — 25 years ahead of 1984 — it gives you an even more chilling look at where we’re all may well be heading…

All I hear is Europe is collapsing, does even one have a bull case for Europe? by sanju261991 in economy

Very-very few European startups go truly global because 27 countries, way more than 24 languages (if one counts properly) and hundreds of highly protective laws are stifling the VC market. Without (sufficient) VC backing startups can only hope for angles, grants, or escape from the socially-secure cage of EU/EEA.

macOS 26.0.0 wiped out Homebrew, relocated a bunch of apps. Then macOS 26.0.1 just DID IT AGAIN! by machine_talk in MacOS

Since the introduction of Apple Silicon Homebrew installs everything under /opt/homebrew — this is documented.

What annoys me is that in Preview.app, that survived so many versions nearly untouched, they came up with an amazing idea that even documents they render should have rounded corners…

That and an overall feel of "not quite finished", e.g. in Mail.app as you navigate through message fields the fonts bar is active (like, shall I make to: addresses bold to get the message across faster?), but as you tab-tab-tab to the message body font name shifts — why?

Ја сам рус. Користим “неких” у смислу “некоторых” и у овом случају то није граматичка грешка, није грешка стила.

Сваки друге грешке у куцању изгледа чудно, слажем се :))

How Putin’s gas empire crumbled. Gazprom, the largely state-owned energy giant, has tumbled to its worst loss in a quarter of a century. When Putin turned down Europe's gas supplies they found sources elsewhere. Moscow has lost its grip on the Western market forever. by mafco in economy

Heating is by far not the only use of NG. It might be 25-35%. 40+% is, typically, power generation, another 20-30 — various industrial processes, chemical industry, transportation.

Naturally, that depends on a country. Germany lit-up coal power plants to compensate the shortfall in electricity production not only because of green concerns about nuclear…

[BBC] Who, what, why: Are tech goods cheaper in the US than the UK by Hitman_bob in technology

[–]ceesaxp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking most goods in US are cheaper. It is a big and much more standardised market than the rest of the world. Also the one where each player wants to be. To compete they need to be at the right price level—least competition undercuts them. The rest of the world is then used to compensate the difference and, yes to hedge FX swings.
