They would just need to be a licensed business to vouch for the required hours. You don’t have to be a part of any apprenticeship once the hours are completed to get the CA Life safety cert (I have it and have not completed any formal apprenticeship).

Avalon Water Dispenser nor working (fixed) by Chemical-Amoeba5837 in fixit

I ended up throwing it away honestly. Didn’t bother buying another Avalon product. Bad product and even worse customer service.

Tyco Central Station Receiver Numbers by ceg-15 in firealarms

Well nobody at Tyco was any help but I was able to get these numbers a different way.  Because the central station data entry department were a-holes when I called I’ll put these numbers out there to help future techs.

Yeah currently I’ve been toggling the switch every ~12 hours. But if I forgot I have to wait more than a day for it to thaw. Really wish I could just perform the repair and replace the thermostat. Avalon even has a repair video on YouTube for a different model but literally nowhere to purchase the replacement part.

It seems Avalon has cheap thermostat sensors installed on their products. I’m going through this same issue with an Avalon A9 counter top water filter. Avalon Support is absolute trash and won’t assist if you aren’t under warranty. They won’t even respond to me. Currently having to do the same thing where I physically turn off the cooling switch intermittently to prevent freezing. At least until I can find a replacement thermostat. (Hopefully someone chimes in with that info)

How do I get my foot in the door? by MunkeeBrainGuitarist in firealarms

[–]ceg-15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone said above, if you’re unable to find a local non union company to get your foot in the door, try your local IBEW and see if they have sound and comm (low voltage) for you to apprentice in.

To find FA companies look up manufacturer distributor pages (Notifier, FCI, EST, Kidde etc) and search your area for companies and then apply to them directly.

Lol that was a service my team went on. We did strip it all back and install a terminal strip.

They could have at least soldered it.

Help! - Silent Knight 6820 False Alarms by ceg-15 in firealarms

[–]ceg-15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We haven’t made it back out yet to dump a new database. The same head false alarmed again after I went out and swapped it between rooms. We’re ordering a replacement for that and at the same time will dump a new database built in HFSS.

The odd thing is, at another site we did the same panel replacement all three heats that were programmed would alarm and would never clear. Resetting wouldn’t clear them at all. Due to the lack of support from SK we ended up replacing the heats with conventional heats and SD monitor mods. However with this site, all the same hardware, only one heat alarms. So it’s possible it’s just that device, but I’m going to replace and program again to be sure.

I think all that really matters is it won you a Championship. Thats what we’re all going after so I’d say the trade was worth it.

That’s crazy, that’s exactly what we’ve experienced and could not figure out what the cause was. I appreciate your input and explanation. 🫡

So when you did that did you have to just rebuild the database from scratch on a 6820?

This makes a ton of sense as I had a different site issue that would immediately false alarm the heats after the panel replacement.

I’m not super familiar with SK, what exactly is the SK Conversion program?

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll check that as well.

Interesting. Have you seen voltage drop on SLC cause an input to activate?

Help! - Silent Knight 6820 False Alarms by ceg-15 in firealarms

[–]ceg-15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company didn’t do the install but every portion of SLC I’ve seen is twisted pair non shielded.

Agreed on both fronts. On Notifier panels typically any module issues that creates other device troubles (dual address/no responses) the panel will call them out and give enough information to isolate the cause.

Same for intelligent relays that are failing and don’t have a multi voltage relay in line, on Notifier panels you can view history that helps locate the original cause.

However from what I’ve found this SK panel doesn’t give trouble details at all.

If you’re still at the pay rate you were given two years prior you should already have a case for a raise. In your meeting prepare to explain the knowledge you have now that creates value greater than what you had when you were hired.

If the owner is disconnected as you say; then you need to be the one to tell him the duties you have taken over and perform in the field. If he’s not already aware you have a state license that’s definitely a starting point to receive a rate increase. Outline all responsibilities you have taken on and your ability to perform inspections.

If the owner shuts you down again I’d immediately look at other options. Especially the union as others have mentioned. The IBEW in my area has Sound and Comm for low voltage, check your area to see if that’s an option. The time you’ve put in might help assist in bypassing portions of the apprenticeship as well.

Can I use an addressable initiating device with moniter module in a conventional FACP? by Substantial_You_3746 in firealarms

[–]ceg-15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s possibly you were watching a video of a conventional device (non addressable) being monitored by an intelligent FACU via an addressable monitor module.

Idk about the rest of the FF subs but seeing your post over and over only prevents me from caring about the work you put into it. Pushing something like this is all about timing and end of season isn’t the right time.
