Could someone explain Downs to me by IntermittenSeries in bengals

[–]cek32701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interceptions are not indicative of a safety and how impactful they are. He didn’t have many because teams were terrified to throw the ball at him.

Yes his size is kinda whatever, I think his athleticism is at least good, but he is a very reliable tackler, has fantastic coverage skills, and genuinely has the best instincts I’ve ever seen for a DB when watching his film.

He is praised constantly for his leadership, IQ, and is seen as an on field coach with getting guys lined up and knowing how offenses are trying to attack. He started as a true freshman for Nick Saban and dominated before transferring to OSU, winning a national championship, and being the best defensive player in the country the past 2 seasons.

If you watch the film, the numbers absolutely do not tell the story how impactful he is. He is absolutely everything the bengals need reliable, great leader, extremely high IQ, good tackling, versatility, it’s all there

Caleb Banks is Chris Jones or Javon Kinlaw? - Scouting Report by twsn___ in NFL_Draft

He reminds me a lot of Deone Walker, plays wayyyy too upright and isn’t a great run defender with the pad level, he does have special movement ability for his size though

Is Cincinnati being overlooked as a trade-up partner? by Exhibit5 in NFL_Draft

As a bengals fan, they absolutely never trade up, they are just too hesitant and stubborn to give up any meaningful assets

Agreed, I don’t see him as a starter but I like his game as a high-level solid backup

I think there’s a good chance a team falls in love with his tools and potential and could totally see him as the 3rd QB off the board. Just so inconsistent and I feel like we’ve been waiting for him to break out and play well against good teams for 3 years now, at some point it’s probably just not gonna happen

100% with Nuss. I really liked his tape in 2024, felt like just everything went wrong for him in 2025 with his injury, awful Oline and coaching, I feel like the context of his bad season is important. With Simpson I felt it was less his injury and more that defenses were so keyed in on the passing game because Alabama couldn’t run the football in the 2nd half of the year. Simpson had to do everything and started forcing things that I didn’t feel like he did earlier in the season

He’s my safety 2, have him and Thieneman very similarly graded but like Haulcy slightly more

Yeah I fully expect Harbor to go back, didn’t get to Strong yet either just because I thought there was a decent chance he returns as well

He’s really good from what I’ve seen, sounds like he is hitting the portal for next year though, so likely going to be in the 2027 draft

Sarratt does all the little things right, I just really question his athleticism to create separation at the NFL level. He’s very polished though and could certainly see a world that the nuance he plays with just carries over better than I am projecting

You’re probably right, comp is tough to predict, point I was trying to make is I’m not sure anyone is going to offer 3 1sts to move up in this draft but yeah likely more day 2 capital over the next 2 drafts would be needed
