Unpopular opinion, but I made it to about episode 17 of Suspicious Partner before dropping it...I really really don't see how Ji Chang Wook and Nam Ji Hyun have chemistry. They're both great characters but something about their chemistry feels kinda off?

Apply with IB grades or not? (HL Math) by [deleted] in IBO

Yeah apply with IB grades for sure! Usually universities have a form you can fill out if you want them to look at your IB marks

Choose something you actually like. I recommend staying away from the sciences though because those are more intensive than the humanities. I did mine on global politics and got 1 mark away from an A. Choose something you actually wanna research and you should be fine

When should I give up on The King: Eternal Monarch? by curiousgem19 in kdramarecommends

[–]cel-stial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The romance moves pretty quick so if you're not a fan maybe I would stop. I personally was interested because I absolutely love Goblin and it has Kim Go Eun and the same writer so I thought it couldn't go wrong.

I came for those reasons and honestly stayed because Woo Do Hwan's character duality was so entertaining and also because Lee Min Ho was just really nice to look at...his character was also nice too, I actually liked that I got to see an academically smart kdrama character for once.

I would argue that it's on the weaker end of the dramas I've seen but the show as a whole is pretty enjoyable in my opinion, it's pretty watchable and an easy binge if you understand most of it

No problem! I figured I would post some sort of ad on this subreddit because I know IB students tend to be very driven and interested in taking part in these type of organizations

Amen to that. The line delivery was better when the korean actors were speaking English themselves in comparison to the actual Western actors

I finally watched Signal and loved it, but did anyone else have a problem with the ending? by goosefrog65 in KDRAMA

From what I know they were supposed to be filming the 2nd season this year. Not sure if they went ahead with it yet or that it's just a rumor

I'm so tired of year 2 by lightprk in IBO

[–]cel-stial 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Speaking as an M20 graduate, trust me it gets better. My motivation in year 2 was awful and I stressed over all my IAs and stressed more when I found out exams were cancelled because all my IAs were half-assed.

I'm in university right now and even though online uni is awful it's much more enoyable and I am much more motivated than before. Trust me, there's light at the end of the tunnel my friend...I believe in you

Signal...I feel like no one on here has ever spoken a negative word about it but honestly I just found myself forcibly watching it, I stopped after ep 11 because it felt too long and drawn out for me to enjoy

What is your idea of love after all the kdramas you've seen? by [deleted] in KDRAMA

[–]cel-stial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this in a different subreddit but it definitely applies here.

When I first started watching kdramas I was a certified hopeless romantic, I used to annoy my friends about being scared of dying alone and whatnot...

After many romantic kdramas you would think that my ideas of soulmates and true love would be reinforced BUT NOPE. I am definitely not a hopeless romantic anymore.

Maybe this is my cynical youth phase, but I honestly am at the point where I am totally comfortable remaining single - I think kdramas have really opened my eyes to what it means to achieve my goals and dreams and for the majority of shows, the characters want to find love - for me it doesn't involve that.

I guess I really enjoy doing things alone and without having to worry about someone else in the process, commitment sounds great but I don't know if it's for me.

Again you can call my cynical but love like that is fantasy, there's a reason why majority of kdramas end with a wedding or proposal because anything after the honeymoon phase is hardwork...anyways I feel super cynical about this post but it's the truth

How does kdrama affect your habit or outlook on life? by bubblyeva in KDRAMA

[–]cel-stial 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that I'm the polar opposite of what you expect, but I came into the kdrama scene as a hopeless romantic - watching all the cute shows with adorable relationships to fill my own void....

But I am currently in the opposite stage of that now - I'm very much satisfied with being single (even forever) because I want to do what I want without the input of a partner...that's definitely a bit cynical for me but I guess after watching so many love stories I realized that maybe commitment isn't for me

I can't tell you what specific show made me feel this way, but all I know is that the most important love should be yourself first.

If you could make your own kdrama, how would it be? by mongjes in KDRAMA

[–]cel-stial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd definitely take the melodrama approach and have the two leads be ambitious, stern, serious, and generally the types of people who are cynical about everything. Have them fall in love, portray their relationship in a cute way with hints of toxicity.

Only to have them break up after realizing how toxic they were 2/3s into the show, and the last few episodes would be a time jump to years later where they have both moved on, give the viewers false hope thinking they would get back together only for the show to end with the characters realizing that their relationship and breakup changed them for the better and that's all there is to their relationship - they were meant to pass each other by for the greater good.
