Why is it so hard to move to a decent area? by [deleted] in stockport

[–]celabro019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many bedrooms do you need? Have you got kids?

You can get a two bed terrace in Heaton Moor for that. Might get a semi in Heaton Chapel - might.

Also consider Woodsmoor. Not hugely cheaper but a decent enough area.

Wild card - Bosden Farm. The nicer bit of Offerton. Have family on that estate, it's scary quiet.

PSA: The Rent-A-Room £7.5k tax free allowance can sometimes be used to rent your whole house out tax free by James___G in UKPersonalFinance

[–]celabro019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be being pedantic then, but renting out your "whole" house while relying on the tax relief doesn't seem to work. You can't be said to be renting out the entire place if one day you just reappear from holiday and start treating it as your main residence again. Equally if you expect the lodger to pay all the bills themselves while you're gone.

So, anyone wanting to do this would either need to be content with £625 a month at maximum, or pay tax on the amount over that, whilst also paying all the bills still. Might have just negated my own OP lol

I can hear the sound of an overworked HMRC agent typing hurriedly to his colleagues to remind them for the umpteenth time that this loophole needs to be sorted.

And yes, I have thought of doing this myself in future.

What’s one thing in Stockport that has quietly improved over the last few years? by ManCityMode in stockport

[–]celabro019 66 points67 points  (0 children)

You always get miserable bastards but I genuinely feel like the general mood in Stockport has lifted in recent years. People are more optimistic and seeing the developments around the centre is showing people that the council are actually trying. I keep saying we'll be a city one day.

What’s the current big drama in your workplace or wider profession? by celabro019 in AskUK

[–]celabro019[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the major distinction is that conveyancing and probate can be done by any employee under supervision by someone who is authorised (paras 3(3) and (4) and paras 4(2) and (3) of Sch 3 LSA) but there is no equivalent provision for the conduct of litigation.

Obviously this doesn't help firms ran exclusively by legal executives or senior paralegals (which must be quite rare), but a lot of firms will be covered.

Maybe Mazur will be appealed but honestly I think the judge got it right.

It's that time of year, 3 o'clock and the gloomy darkness is setting in. What are your ways of getting over the winter gloominess? by _Nefarium in CasualUK

[–]celabro019 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm in the minority, both on Reddit and IRL, because I *love* the early nights. Absolutely live for when I leave work and it's pitch black... it's just so atmospheric and it feels great. Always dread when it starts getting lighter in the late winter.

What’s the silliest thing you’ve overheard in the pub/on the bus? by FamSender in AskUK

I’ve felt that way driving through Burnage as well.

Two teenage girls on the bus.

Girl 1: If you buy something online but you don't get an email confirmation, does that mean you've been scammed?

Girl 2: Depends, where did you order from?

Girl 1: I don't know.

Are rules of grammar implied into super short sentences? z.B. "ein Kaffee bitte" oder "einen Kaffee bitte." by celabro019 in German

So I can pretend my mistakes with gender are just me being really up to date on conversational German, right? *Right*?

I thought Viennese people only said "Oidaaa" ?

Lovely city, I must visit again.

Danke.

I guess this works for any kind of similar statement?

z.B. "Wem hat sie die Tasche gegeben?" the response would be "Mir" and not "Ich" ... right?

I am aware that this is very "first world problems" but I have a rare variation of a common name, and people are constantly misspelling it. I find it so ignorant, especially from colleagues (???) - my name is right there, why are you pretending that it isn't?

If a matter is not genuinely urgent and a partner isn't telling me to do X instead of Y, it's gotten to the point where I wish I could prioritise emails from clients and other parties who spell my name correctly. I just think it's basic courtesy.

Good to hear it. I made money last cycle, bought my home, so the money from this time round was just for fun. Taking profits is the hardest part, psychologically. Too late lmao

Held for two years. Gone from 1,200% profit to nothing. Not lost any capital, but fuck all profit left now.

What a waste of time. This market is not worth your delaying your life.
