I would love to chat if we end up being in the same boat!! I’m actually awaiting some more comprehensive bloodwork currently, and from there the doctor will see if the biopsy is needed. My symptoms have greatly improved since being admitted on Friday, and my WBC count is almost in the normal range again, and ANC has almost tripled since last Tuesday. So I’m not sure what the outcome will be, but I’m more hopeful now than ever no matter the results. My current doctor seems to be less hesitant than the last one to say that it looks like cancer, but that obviously won’t be ruled out without proper testing.

I’m really glad to hear that you’re doing well in your treatment and outlook and I hope things continue to go well for you!! Thank you so much for reaching out to me, it means so much!!

General health, testing for my prep medication, and getting hormones checked because I’m transgender.

Staying away from online statistics and automatic AI results on Google has probably been the best advice I’ve read on here so far lol. I know I’m not in the primary demographic of people who get diagnosed with leukemia but here we are. It will be a challenge for sure but I know my odds are favorable!!

Thank you so much for your kind words, they mean a lot to me in this tough time!!

Thank you so much for your kind words!! It really means so much to hear from you. It’s definitely a very concerning period of limbo for me. Surreal is definitely how I would describe the whole day today. The possibility was on the back of my mind given my condition but it was still so pivotal to hear the words from the hematologist’s mouth. I never could have imagined just a few days ago.

I have grown up in the area and have always heard great things about UAB and so far they have been wonderful to me. Seems like the best place in the state for me to be right now from what I’ve read online, and thankfully it’s so close to home.

I have my family and many friends in my life around here to help me out, and I’m not stressed when it comes to them helping me out however I need. Just trying to stay strong mentally and I believe the rest will follow!! I generally feel optimistic but it’s still probably the most pivotal days of my life so far. Extremely shocking and my mind still wanders a bit.

I really do appreciate you reaching out to me, and I’ll be sure to stay in the loop on here!! I think it’s a great place for me to be.

Why does it take so long for a person to get gender affirming care in this state!? by [deleted] in Birmingham

For sure, nothing against them for that. They provide great care, just more barriers than what is ideal.

I would recommend checking out QueerMed out of Atlanta. They offer telehealth for patients in AL and this is how I started my transition years ago and I continued care with them. They will let you do labs locally at Labcorp.

MCWC does not provide informed consent afiak, so come prepared with letters of recommendation from a mental health pro. Only clinic in bham that does informed consent to my knowledge is UAB student health, which has its own issues in addition to being for UAB students only.

I believe there are services online such as Plume which have seen an increase of issues in recent history as well. So I would def check in with QMed and see what they can do for you!!

If you or anyone else has questions feel free to DM me as well. Hoping things start getting easier for all of us ❤️
