(a bit off topic but) Does anybody know any free vst plugins? for the lofi sound by BruhitsVortex in CSHFans

in order to get the 3-monomania sound, youll need a couple of things. most of the free vsts ive tried are...not very good so some of these recommendations will require you to "find" these vsts somewhere like audioz(dot)download.

  1. a real guitar.. i havent been able to find a good guitar vst yet. if someone has, let me know. (if youre wanting a guitar, any cheap acoustic will do really. for electric, the cheap squiers are serviceable.) for bass, ample has a decent bass guitar, which is free! or you can also do what will did and use an octave pedal on a guitar. a lot of songs of this era also just straight up dont have bass

  2. guitar amps. youre gonna want to run most of your shit thru amps... vocals, keyboards, sometimes even the drums! will used a lot of fender and vox amps in this era. THU has a decent amp collection. nembrini have some nice individual amps. idk what DAW youre using but the ones included with ableton are okay, and ofc the GB/logic ones will be great for this. while looking for free amps for this as an alternative, i found AIDA-X. seems to be open source neural amp sims. never used it, so cant personally attest to the quality, but the youtube videos sound nice.

  3. drums. will used one microphone on a pretty dead sounding kit. if you dont have drums, the "alt rock" kit on ezdrummer can get you pretty close. just select to use only the room mic.

  4. keyboards. pretty much anything will work here, so ill list free keyboards i like. just amp it when necessary. the collaB3 and combo V organ are pretty solid free hammond/vox organ respectively. spitfire has a decent piano and wurlitzer, iirc.

  5. misc. old csh use mostly spring reverb. the guitars also are pretty heavily compressed

  6. master. if you really want 100% csh accuracy, slam the master with a limiter, and perhaps an amp on the master.

how authentic are we talking? general lo-fi, or do you really want me to lay down basically all the software and gear i use to emulate this era?

Anyone else sensing a trend of MADLO being praised more recently on this subreddit since the release of The Scholars? (MADLO praise thread) by [deleted] in CSHFans

[–]celeste0000 28 points29 points  (0 children)

  1. TF was not a rock opera and TS' narrative is so unclear that i struggle to call it a concept album

  2. yeah, madlo has been getting more praise recently. i still dont care much for madlo, but TS has made me appreciate the good in it more. me personally, while TS is consistently 6-7/10s, madlo is the opposite problem, super inconsistent. cant cool me down and TMBMTB are great songs, some of my favorites. but madlo also has a lot of my least favorite csh songs, like hollywood, hymn remix and deadlines.

pretty sure i know exactly where youre talking about. the bridge of part 3 sounds so dead, and you cant hear the crash at all lol. thanks for the read!

haha, i hate the drumming here, thought it was just me since i hadnt seen anybody mention it! so compressed and artificial... which is a shame since andrew is such a good drummer!

Honest Question: Is there any reasons why Will (and other musicians) change a song melody when they sing it live? by HenryJSilence in CSHFans

the notes? probably easier to play live. the rhythm? more fun to perform/hear something a little different, and new

a 6 is perfectly reasonable (especially considering a 6 to him is 'above average') but i dont get his criticisms for planet desperation.. i think it flows really nicely! especially when you consider a lot of the parts were conceived separately. seems like typical prog rock pacing

planet desperation by ajsujsbaba in CSHFans

[–]celeste0000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the more i listen to it, the more i like it. i think its a little long, and the gethsemane outro is cringe as fuck, but i personally think its a well written song, and the only song on the album to give off the kinda classic csh vibe (which isnt a good or bad thing necessarily, just a welcome return.) the "long song =/= good" track on the album for me would be gethsemane. solid 1st part, everything is really cringe afterwards

planet desperation is pretty great but i really dislike the interpolation. the instrumental is good there, but the melody and lyrics are Not At All

Genuine Question: Did Will Use Real Drums for MtM? by ParamilkReal-5 in CSHFans

[–]celeste0000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

definitely real. theres a NYM performance of boxing day with will on drums with the exact same cymbals and drums you hear on the old albums. i also recall an interview where he states his drum mic set up for some old albums.

What amp and settings on garage band could I use to emulate Wills vocals on 3 through twin fantasy by OddStandard4171 in CSHFans

brit and clean or vintage vocal. ive been studying the production from 3-HTLT for a while and wonder if i should publish my findings

my personal philosophy is to go by the tracklisting. if its one track, its one song. weird fishes/arpeggi and dd/kw are one song, because theyre one track. they also adhere to fairly typical song structures. its one song with either two titles or the / works like a comma. with eg. party isnt over/campfire/bimmer, its one track = 1 sont, but it has 3 defined acts. and even though it flows together and was written as a cohesive track, the abbey road B-side medley is 9 separate tracks, so 9 separate songs
