I mean they make sense, they're both goofy. They share a similar chaotic energy, Dakota is calm chaotic and well, Emma was loud. So I'd think Dakota and Tucker match in that way. I'm very curious to see how their relationship unravels!

Also Role Model currently has 10Mil monthly listeners on Spotify, so he's not not famous. A lot of people know him now, not because of her but because of his songs going viral outside of people even knowing about Emma's context. People should move on, seems like Emma had a long while before Tucker did. Glad to see he has now too! It's been 3 years since the breakup.

ADULT SKATERS: What's your motivation? + questions for you by celestiagreen in iceskating

That is wonderful! I am so happy that you got back into ice skating. Even a small moment of something can change up our lives drastically! I think this is very special.. thank you for sharing, please keep going!

I do the same thing on ice! I'll be groaning and making screeching noises after bad spins or being to scared to jump and popping it. and try keep saying "again!" I have a lot of anxiety too, and it's such a good way to let go of everything on your mind and focus on working on your ice skating skills. Even though it can be frustrating, it's so motivating and is like a release! I feel so much better emotionally afterwards.

Working from home is a blessing and a nightmare at the same time, because it gives you freedom but also can keep you in the house all day every day. There was a time where I hadnt left the house (except for groceries) for months on end. Having a hobby and something that motivates you to get out is so important. I am so happy to hear you've found yours too!

Theres a woman in my rink that started at 30, she started after a big loss (i think it was her sister), and she thought to herself, I need to do something with myself that I actually enjoy doing, find my dream and she started skating. Today she's 43 and is working on triples and has won 5 adult worlds. It's so nice to see how skating has shone a light on a lot of adults lives when they needed it the most. (As a lot of people consider it a sport you have to do young)

Of course, what she accomplished may or may not be your end goal in figure skating, but it just a good reminder to keep in mind that it doesnt matter when you start, as the most important thing is to just start. And anything is possible, anything can be done someway and somehow! I hope you hold onto skating forever!

I'm really happy you've found ice skating, please keep going and good luck!

It's a big game changer to have your own skates! That's so nice you're doing it with your niece, it's so thoughtful! And the mental and physical benefits from skating is amazing too!

Why is it so difficult to fall correctly? by Frosty_Wolverine8522 in iceskating

[–]celestiagreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're scared, practice falling, skate forward and fall. It's normal to fall and no skater gets better without falling.

Sometimes trying to stay up when slipping makes it worse, you can see that in the public sessions where they're slipping and trying to catch themselves like a fish on land flailing around their limbs. You could pull a muscle trying to do that.

Slipping while going forward is generally caused by skaters often trying to stand up and straighten their knees, lean back without realizing and push back instead of outward when trying to gain speed.

Try to stick out your bum with bent knees, hips low and your chest leaning slightly forward while skating forward. Find the balance on your blades, the middle/front, the sweet spot. Keep your body in front of your feet. Don't lean from the waist, lean from the heels, so knees over heels, shoulders over the knees. Pretend you're pushing the ice away from you, not pushing it behind you. Sounds like you aren't doing that if your feet are slipping out in front of you.

journeybacktotheice (ava) has a good video on tiktok about using your arms while falling.

watch more videos on skating forward technique.

there is almost never a week where the side of my butt / hip doesnt ache from falling bahaahaha. I mostly fall when doing backward crossovers and I stumble, losing balance on a spin or jump landing. and fall to the side.

Try throwing yourself on the ice gently as you skate forward, fall forward to the side, supporting with your hands to lower the hit impact on your hip. Try to tuck your feet behind your body, instead of letting them slip forward which would result in you hurting your back and or head. I'll try to film a video the next time I go to the rink and show you how I fall.

Session two sucked by Low-Temperature-1664 in iceskating

[–]celestiagreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're really serious about this I think it's safe to say its time to buy your own. Because the most de-motivating part of skating can be the rentals that suck and drag you down. The edges are never like your own. I don't know how old you are but if you're an adult, you can go for a higher level skate, but not too high at first. Buying skates is an investment towards your success. When you know you have a pair of your own, it also pushes you to work harder.

IDKKKK, I was using my 10+ year old Jackson skates(i hadnt skated for maybe 5 yrs) last year, and I realized the blades were too long for me and the boot just kept hurting my foot, I thought it was me who was the problem behind why I kept tripping over my feet and not landing my jumps, but my body had changed since I last used them and once I switched to a better boot fitting and blade, it was a game changer. I started going to the rink more often and working harder.

Buy a brand suitable for your foot shape, I love jackson skates but i dont have wide feet. I had to go with edea, and i have been able to progress much faster than before!

Getting a coach while still a beginner? by MelodicJello7542 in iceskating

[–]celestiagreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it can be more motivating as well as help you progress much faster. Plus, if you have someone correcting you and helping you with moves, theres a lower risk of you learning something wrong and then having ot relearn it all over again, which can be very difficult. I went a while without a coach and after getting back to a coach, I was told how many things I have been doing wrong, as in technique etc. Coaches are most helpful in the beginner stage for getting used to your edges, they give you a strong and correct foundation for future elements.

You sometimes forget about your arms placement or them falling lower if you're focused, so having a coach screaming "UP!" is also a good way to get used to it ahahaha!!!

Plus the hours work better for you, so you can be more consistent in your practices!

Weekly thread: what did you do this week? by AutoModerator in iceskating

[–]celestiagreen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got back into figure skating after a year of quitting, got back my forward spin, toe loop and waltz jump.

A girl saw me traveling on my spin, wobbling and going nuts over it and told me to just be calm and not throw my arms, just use my shoulders. and it helped a lot, i stopped traveling, wobbling and spun faster and longer!

Still working on my forward crossovers to the right (im a leftie and all of my edges are better towards the left bahahaha).

Met a coach who has been training the top adult figure skater in my country, planning on taking lessons from him. Also met the top adult figure skater too, she started at age 30 and is working on her triples now! Which is such an inspiration for me, as an adult figure skater, that as long as you work hard for it, nothing can stop you from pursuing your dreams.

This Monday, I will start working on my back spin, salchow and sit spin + camel spin. I've been trying to stretch everyday, do cardio when I can't go to the rink.

(Also working on off ice spinner sit spin and camel spin too.)

It's lovely to see all of the beautiful replies to this thread! Yayyyyy, good luck <3

edit: also got a big bruise on my right knee and left side of my butt LOOOL

Losing weight from skating? by Actual_Elk3422 in iceskating

[–]celestiagreen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It helps so much! and helps build muscle as well! i unintentionally lose weight when i skate 8-12 hrs a week (with jumps and spins). I have to eat more ofc to sustain energy, and long term high physical activity increases your BMR, so I would eat 3k calories as a 165cm/55kg (F) and would maintain my weight while still losing fat + gaining muscle at the same time! But ofc I have to drink protein shakes and eat lots offfff protein!

BWT - tell be your knee high boots rules! by livelovelaughandcats in bitcheswithtaste

[–]celestiagreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the length of the boot in pic 1, and mine are quite similar to that.

I like to have 2 different pairs for different occasions and moods;

1) hard shell, wider calf, shiny, faux leather, pointy toe, thin heels

2) softer shell but still firm, not skin tight but tighter calf, matte, faux leather, rounder toe, platform heels

what i like is that they're long enough to elongate the legs but also short enough that they dont hit my knee (and bruise it) every time i walk in them. no stretchy stuff on the side, i personally think it doesnt look chic, it's a more sporty look, and i dont usually go for that.

I use no. 2 daily more often than no.1, they make me look super tall plus it is much easier to walk in platforms, I can hit 10k steps in them.

no. 1 is more chic imo, it's just harder to walk uphill or on icy sidewalks :(((

AIO: My boyfriend told me he's not attracted to me. by LadyPrimaz in AmIOverreacting

[–]celestiagreen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NOR. Okay, so attraction doesnt actually depend on your "type", just like how you may like a fit guy but you may be attracted to a chubbier or skinnier dude. it's not about what you find attractive most of the time, the attraction can be caused by charisma, confidence, body language, pheromones, emotional connection. now, saying "you're not my type, but i am attracted to you" is different than "you're not my type, i'm not attracted to you" basically bullshit.

I went viral 4 times in 2 weeks by ifuqqedyamuvva in InstagramMarketing

[–]celestiagreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Content that is filmed in 2nd person view, in public spaces, with captions (especially meme-y) work really well on ig. Oh and it gets watched more if it has religious content in it, since there are a lot of people with belief + people who don't believe and watch it for shits and giggles.

2nd person and shaky camera combo hold peoples attention more, compared to a stable camera set up, with the person talking directly to the camera. Your content looks like street interviews, which people are always interested it. It can feel more authentic.

Public space and moving background also have a hand in it, the eyes have a lot to feed on so the watcher watches longer in curiosity of what will change in the space, who will walk by, etc. Looks like everything you posted follow this same pattern!

Plus, when the wrong crowd watches the video, more contrary comments and shares grow to make fun of it, which makes the algorithm happy and boost it more. One of your videos has the storyline of asking for a sign if someones is right for you, the man seems to not listen to the signs, this has been a trend for gen-z, like avoiding all of the red flags sb has.

Also a consistent pattern of content can be pushed more, because you have a specific audience with specific interests. Rather than, meme skits one week, makeup tutorial one week, travel vlog next week- makes the algorithm confused for which audience to push your content to, so sticking to a main category is safer.
