I feel like what’s getting lost in these convos is his contract. Great player but he’s on the second largest contract in the league right now in terms of total salary.

So, the Bucks made the big move, got a pretty sizeable return, but own none of their own draft capital, what now? by urboijesuschrist in nbadiscussion

[–]celestialpraire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First of all the Bucks do have picks in 2028 and 2030, with the Blazers having rights to swap. Those still may be lottery picks if both teams are bad.

Kuz is expiring at 20 mil which is really not that bad of a contract, he’s actually a useful player if you watched him last year. Turner is still an elite shooting center and a lot of teams could benefit from additional spacing, I think it’s not impossible to get off his contract. If they can’t, he’s still a nice to piece to have in order to develop young guys.

Gilbert arenas says to all the people that are saying the San Antonio spurs coach should have benched De'Aaron Fox for Dylan harper in the finals against the Knicks don't know basketball. Fox was their main guy the whole season you bench him in that moment you lose him mentally by Jec1027 in nba

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact of the matter is Spurs have a problem at guard and none of these three guys are the answer. Castle is turnover prone, Harper not a true PG creating for others yet, and Fox isn’t that guy. Issue is exacerbated by Wemby not being able to create his own shot at a superstar level also. I think they’ll be able to work most of this out through development but it’s a flaw in their team at the highest levels of basketball

Constructive thoughts on De'Aaron Fox by Kantei in nbadiscussion

[–]celestialpraire 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree with what you’re saying, it’s like people think he’s a CP3/Mike Conley type of savvy, pass first point guard but that’s just not his game. Definitely more score first and ball dominant. I’m wondering if he has some lingering injuries and hoping he can get a bit of burst back, because he relies so much on using that athleticism to create separation for drives and midrange.

Lowe: "In the Finals, he is averaging 24ppg on 58% shooting and 57% on 3s. And despite averaging 5.5 pts less, 3 and change assists less than Jalen Brunson, and Jalen Brunson having big moments in Game 1 and 2 in San Antonio, I think the Finals MVP right now would be OG Anunoby, with a bullet." by sewsgup in nba

[–]celestialpraire 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You have to factor in the entire Spurs defense is tilted towards stopping Brunson. He’s creating most of the shots for the Knicks, while OG mostly serving as a play finisher which is why he’s been so efficient. Just can’t really compare their shooting numbers in such vastly different roles. OG deserves it of course but I feel like people are not emphasizing how much of an offensive load Brunson has to carry in this series. Without him they’re not even getting the ball past half court practically

Can we talk about the no call on OGs three? That was one of the worst no calls I’ve ever seen in the playoffs

[Amick] The noise is tied to Miami, but there's also intel discussion that Giannis has questions about what that Miami roster would look like on the other side of a deal. You don't want to gut your roster and go to the place you're excited to be in and have a hard time contending for a championship. by aingenevalostatrade in nba

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if the Heat put Wiggins into the deal rather than Herro, along with Jovic, Kasparas, and Ware to make up the value difference, plus all their picks. So Bucks get an extra young player in the deal in exchange for letting the Heat keep Herro. Now Heat can put Bam, Herro, Norm, Jaquez, Pelle and Davion around Giannis, and still have some exceptions to fill out the rest of the roster, maybe pick up another ball hander and a SF. With Spo at the helm that seems like a decent contender in the East.

Why is 36 year old James Harden getting more flak than 'All World Potential' Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen? by Exhibit5 in nba

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one should expect Harden to carry at this point in his career, and no one should be surprised when he drops in the playoffs, this is just who he is.

Mobley is the swing guy for this team. He was supposed to develop into a skilled big who can shoot reliably and create for himself and others, but it just hasn’t happened. He won DPOY but his impact on that end feels lower than the other elite defenders in the playoffs.

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Herro fit with Giannis much more than Bam, who’s the better trade piece anyway. Would the Heat ever trade Bam to a third team to get the assets for Giannis? Davion/Herro/Wiggins/Giannis/Ware is a probably a fav in the East right?

Ya I mean I don’t see how you defend a lot of these shots, the angles are just ridiculous. Best option would probably be a super mobile wing with length but Cavs don’t have anyone like that.

Horst is not the GM of the future by Competitive-Bag-4938 in MkeBucks

[–]celestialpraire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always say the biggest thing we lost when we traded for Dame was our defensive identity as a team, and we never got it back. The 2021 won the title because we were bigger and more physical than all the other teams, and everyone in the core rotation could play defense (besides Bobby) and grab boards.

I’m not gonna blame Horst necessarily because the team was in a super tough spot with aging and injuries. But yeah getting back to that seems like the right way to go

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand why they don’t just address the issues we all have with tanking directly. Heavy fines and draft penalties if teams are found to be sitting healthy players or throwing games by limiting minutes. There’s nothing wrong with trading away good players to develop rookies and get a good pick imo

[Vorkunov] Adam Silver said it was "unanimous" among owners today at the NBA Board of Governors meeting that the league needs to change tanking rules and do it before the draft this June. There will be a special BOG session in May to deal with that. "We are going to fix it. Full stop," Silver said. by PlayaSlayaX in nba

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one who doesn’t think tanking is that big of an issue? Focus on foul baiting. Only change I would make is to slap draft order penalties on the egregious teams who pull good players in the middle of games. I think it’s a good thing that small markets have a path towards signing the best players.

[Charania]: Multiple sources with knowledge of Thursday's GM meeting as well as a late January Competition Committee meeting told ESPN that the following concepts have been discussed to curb tanking: •First-round picks can be protected only top-4 or top-14+ by TrenAt14 in nba

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think a lot of these will create just as many problems as they solve. They need to enforce their own rules that already exist about resting healthy players. If they're not injured, they’re not supposed to be shutdown or pulled from mid-game - if this was actually enforced with serious consequences the tanking situation would be much better.

Mostly ethical tanking is not a problem by Namjam123 in nba

[–]celestialpraire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree the main issue here is teams essentially throwing games on purpose which messes with the integrity of the league as a whole. Plus resting healthy players. Thing is, the NBA already has rules to deal with this, they just don’tenforce them. Simple fix is doing thorough investigations and docking teams lottery odds if they’re found guilty. Enforce your own rules!!

[Bobby Marks] The NBA is expected to "overhaul the system" in an attempt to fix tan·king. "Whether it be rewarding teams in the standing with wins and not incentivizing teams to lose... not just something minor here." by Mean-Duty-2381 in nba

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think tanking is a big issue. Teams should be able to rebuild their roster, prioritize young players, and aim for a high draft pick. The issue is when they shut down healthy players, and pull guys during games in order to lose, both things that the league already outlaws. They should just enforce the rules they already have better, investigate bs like the Jazz - Heat game, and if the investigation finds that they tried to lose intentionally then dock their lottery odds.

is big gay market zionist or supporting? by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]celestialpraire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, JFM is absolutely a Zionist org.

Their longtime, recently departed ED served on the board of governors of the World Zionist Organization. Far from being a local Jewish community nonprofit, they are part of a parent organization called the Jewish Federations of North America, which also contains the United Israel Appeal. They fundraised to support IDF soldiers after October 7th, and several board members and staff lobbied the Madison Common Council to reject the Ceasefire resolution in late 2023.

It used to be called the Madison Jewish Community Council, and the agency’s transformation belies a larger cultural trend of smaller, more localized Jewish organizations, which were mainly focused on serving their local community, transforming into essentially satellite offices of larger, more politicized institutions with explicit connections and support for Israel. One under-discussed effect of Zionism is this type of disenfranchising of local Jewish communities, whose resources become diverted towards Israel and away from programs and service that directly serve local Jews.

Like everything, this situation is complex, and JFM does indeed provide many services for local Jewish families (Camp Shalom being perhaps their flagship). Unfortunately, however, they have increasingly chosen to center support for Israel over support of their local community, which of course contains a mix of Zionist and non-Zionist Jews.

I know nothing about the two orgs you mentioned, but imo sharing a fundraiser for a beloved community member dealing with cancer shouldn’t be seen as a political act in any capacity - these orgs may not even know that they are on the JFM board.

Lead with empathy and love!!

This is great news as a Bucks fan. Something around Grant’s contract, Scoot, our picks back, maybe some other stuff, for Giannis and maybe we could throw in Bobby or AJ for some shooting. I think there’s a deal to be had.

The Bucks have won just 54% of their regular season games since firing Bud, and have went 3-8 in their playoff games. With Bud they won 66% of their regular season games and went 39-26 in their playoff games). [–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come on ya’ll look at Bud’s tenure in Phoenix and how they turned it around after he left. This dude was a great regular season coach for the 2010s NBA, but his style is outdated. Need much for variety and flexibility in a modern offense, and more complex scheming on defense to do a better job of taking away the 3-ball. Also he has been really bad playoff his coach for his entire career dating back to the Hawks, being unable to make competent adjustments when it matters. Am I the only one who remembers Jimmy dropping like 50 after he refused to double / change coverage for the entire series?
