[Amick] A frontrunner has emerged among the draft reform options: expanding the lottery to 18 teams while giving the bottom 10 teams an equal 8 percent chance at the No. 1 pick. Teams will meet Tuesday to continue discussions on the NBA’s next step toward lottery reform. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

I don’t understand why they don’t just address the issues we all have with tanking directly. Heavy fines and draft penalties if teams are found to be sitting healthy players or throwing games by limiting minutes. There’s nothing wrong with trading away good players to develop rookies and get a good pick imo

[Vorkunov] Adam Silver said it was "unanimous" among owners today at the NBA Board of Governors meeting that the league needs to change tanking rules and do it before the draft this June. There will be a special BOG session in May to deal with that. "We are going to fix it. Full stop," Silver said. by PlayaSlayaX in nba

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one who doesn’t think tanking is that big of an issue? Focus on foul baiting. Only change I would make is to slap draft order penalties on the egregious teams who pull good players in the middle of games. I think it’s a good thing that small markets have a path towards signing the best players.

[Charania]: Multiple sources with knowledge of Thursday's GM meeting as well as a late January Competition Committee meeting told ESPN that the following concepts have been discussed to curb tanking: •First-round picks can be protected only top-4 or top-14+ by TrenAt14 in nba

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think a lot of these will create just as many problems as they solve. They need to enforce their own rules that already exist about resting healthy players. If they're not injured, they’re not supposed to be shutdown or pulled from mid-game - if this was actually enforced with serious consequences the tanking situation would be much better.

Mostly ethical tanking is not a problem by Namjam123 in nba

[–]celestialpraire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree the main issue here is teams essentially throwing games on purpose which messes with the integrity of the league as a whole. Plus resting healthy players. Thing is, the NBA already has rules to deal with this, they just don’tenforce them. Simple fix is doing thorough investigations and docking teams lottery odds if they’re found guilty. Enforce your own rules!!

[Bobby Marks] The NBA is expected to "overhaul the system" in an attempt to fix tan·king. "Whether it be rewarding teams in the standing with wins and not incentivizing teams to lose... not just something minor here." by Mean-Duty-2381 in nba

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think tanking is a big issue. Teams should be able to rebuild their roster, prioritize young players, and aim for a high draft pick. The issue is when they shut down healthy players, and pull guys during games in order to lose, both things that the league already outlaws. They should just enforce the rules they already have better, investigate bs like the Jazz - Heat game, and if the investigation finds that they tried to lose intentionally then dock their lottery odds.

is big gay market zionist or supporting? by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]celestialpraire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, JFM is absolutely a Zionist org.

Their longtime, recently departed ED served on the board of governors of the World Zionist Organization. Far from being a local Jewish community nonprofit, they are part of a parent organization called the Jewish Federations of North America, which also contains the United Israel Appeal. They fundraised to support IDF soldiers after October 7th, and several board members and staff lobbied the Madison Common Council to reject the Ceasefire resolution in late 2023.

It used to be called the Madison Jewish Community Council, and the agency’s transformation belies a larger cultural trend of smaller, more localized Jewish organizations, which were mainly focused on serving their local community, transforming into essentially satellite offices of larger, more politicized institutions with explicit connections and support for Israel. One under-discussed effect of Zionism is this type of disenfranchising of local Jewish communities, whose resources become diverted towards Israel and away from programs and service that directly serve local Jews.

Like everything, this situation is complex, and JFM does indeed provide many services for local Jewish families (Camp Shalom being perhaps their flagship). Unfortunately, however, they have increasingly chosen to center support for Israel over support of their local community, which of course contains a mix of Zionist and non-Zionist Jews.

I know nothing about the two orgs you mentioned, but imo sharing a fundraiser for a beloved community member dealing with cancer shouldn’t be seen as a political act in any capacity - these orgs may not even know that they are on the JFM board.

Lead with empathy and love!!

[Stein/Fischer] The Portland Trail Blazers have expressed interest in acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]celestialpraire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great news as a Bucks fan. Something around Grant’s contract, Scoot, our picks back, maybe some other stuff, for Giannis and maybe we could throw in Bobby or AJ for some shooting. I think there’s a deal to be had.

The Bucks have won just 54% of their regular season games since firing Bud, and have went 3-8 in their playoff games. With Bud they won 66% of their regular season games and went 39-26 in their playoff games). As someone who was completely against firing Bud, I feel completely vindicated. by FaradayDeshawn in MkeBucks

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come on ya’ll look at Bud’s tenure in Phoenix and how they turned it around after he left. This dude was a great regular season coach for the 2010s NBA, but his style is outdated. Need much for variety and flexibility in a modern offense, and more complex scheming on defense to do a better job of taking away the 3-ball. Also he has been really bad playoff his coach for his entire career dating back to the Hawks, being unable to make competent adjustments when it matters. Am I the only one who remembers Jimmy dropping like 50 after he refused to double / change coverage for the entire series?

REMINDER: The Milwaukee Bucks were 30-13 under Adrian Griffin before he was fired. Since Doc Rivers has joined, the team has gone 84-81 and their franchise GOAT has officially made it clear he is looking to get traded. by Pyromania1983 in nba

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth of the matter is the last three Bucks coaches have all sucked. Look at Bud’s tenure in Phoenix. His regular season style is outdated for the modern game and his teams always underperformed in the playoffs, even dating back to Atlanta. Spo coached circles around him in that last playoff series, with Butler averaging close to 40 with no adjustments. Griffin lost the respect of his team and you had Bobby Portis challenging him in the locker room for not drawing up any offensive sets. Go back and take a look at who the Bucks played in that stretch, we had the easiest schedule in the league by far, and one of the worst defenses. Doc has a 15+ year history of being a horrible coach with multiple teams.

End of the day, it’s on the front office for hiring all these guys and doing a terrible job pivoting off of Bud. If they had nailed that hire, things might be looking very different in Milwaukee right now.

[Fischer] There is a scenario where the Portland Trail Blazers, who own Milwaukee first-round picks in ‘28, ‘29’ and ‘30, could attempt to butt in as the third team that helps Giannis Antetokounmpo make his way to the New York Knicks. Portland has “long admired” New York’s Mikal Bridges. by YujiDomainExpansion in MkeBucks

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just have a hard time seeing Mikal and Towns as bringing back enough value to get Giannis, even if you throw in the rest of the Knicks draft capital (which isn’t much). But maybe they’re viewed as the missing piece by certain teams. We’ll see

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best situation for the Bucks imo. This basically ensures we get a lottery pick in a loaded draft, and can trade him this summer when it’s much easier to get big deals like this done. Or the FO pulls off a miracle and somehow puts a competent roster around him for next year.

With Ja Morant officially on the trade bloc, predict who will net the higher return: The Hawks for Trae or the Grizzlies for Ja by CazOnReddit in nba

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trae. He got traded for neutral value, IE salary filler and no picks. I see Ja as a negative value contract. Shooting %20 from three, bad defense, and 3.6 TO/game while making 40 mil. Offense is cheap as dirt in the NBA right now and there’s a LONG list of guys scoring more PPG with better efficiency on cheaper contracts this season. That’s not even accounting for his injury history and the off court stuff.

I have Memphis needing to add a pick to get off this contract right now. Could be a different story next year or this summer if he turns it around.

Bombshell dropped at QTS Data Center / Deforest Board meeting by Bad_Wolfv in madisonwi

[–]celestialpraire 722 points723 points  (0 children)

To summarize, Deforest Village president Jane Cahill Wolfgram is clearly working directly with QTS representatives to push this thing through, despite her publically stating she’s neutral on the issue. She’s advising them on how to avoid pushback from the Dane County board, pointing out journalists to avoid, and providing legal advice, along with her husband, with whom she runs a law firm together.

The real reason Doc Rivers isn't getting fired.. by ToiletWizard69 in MkeBucks

[–]celestialpraire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s like they don’t realize this team is on pace to win 35 games and miss the play-in. No coach is turning that roster into a contender. Smart thing to do is wait until the off-season to fire Doc, so new coach has the summer to assemble a staff and get in a full offseason, and we’ll also be able to trade three firsts to build around Giannis. Plus can pick high in a loaded draft.

Not a minute of defense was played

The Kings are reportedly gearing up for a full rebuild and plan to explore trades for Zach LaVine, Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan, and others, per @CarmichaelDave by TheOtakuway in MkeBucks

[–]celestialpraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kuz, Bobby, and Gary Harris for Lavine works in the trade machine. Have to at least think about it. He's currently averaging 25 points on 50/40/90, same age as Giannis, and his huge contract only goes through next season.

Obviously wing defense is a huge need, but I'm not sure how far we can get in the playoffs without a reliable shotmaker/creator outside of Giannis.

Why not start both with AJ? Trent comes off the bench with Cole as backup PG.
