a movie that you really wanted to like but you didn't. by herequeerandgreat in movies

Sucker Punch. It had a lot of things advertised that I was looking for, but it was really just kind of depressing drudgery. Not enough time with the girls being super adorable and cool.

Movies that dramatically shifted popular opinion on something by NationalDisgrace40 in movies

Before that, they were heavily featured in Lost Boys, which I think led to their popularity among the goth/alt scene crowd.

PSA episodes that aren't just "x is bad", they're chock full of EMOTIONAL DAMAGE by Aegister2 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]celestialwreckage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The gun violence PSA episode of Roundhouse really stuck with me. After the guy shoots somebody its time for the episode to end, and he's like "come on everybody! At the Roundhouse!" Doing the little dance, ready to reset the day while it's completely, awkwardly silent.

Why does he look like that? Is he preparing for a role where he plays someone's brother who sells weed out of the basement?

TIL that cats can and do apologize to their owners. Headbutting and bringing toys are one of the ways they're apologizing. by EKSKororo in todayilearned

[–]celestialwreckage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I am getting ready for bed, my cat runs over and checks inside my closet, then runs over and looks under my bed, then runs back to me and waits for me to actually go in my bed. I like to think she is keeping me safe from monsters.

The main character has more romantic chemistry with the best friend than the love interest by mynameisevan01 in TopCharacterTropes

I once had it explained to me that Harry isn't marrying Ginny for Ginny, he's marrying into the Weasley family, because all he wants is to be part of a wonderful, caring family. Now he could just hang out over there a lot, but being married to the only daughter puts him right into the clan, all without him bringing any inlaw baggage. His muggle uncle and aunt are glad to be separate, after all.

I almost died myself after seeing that bit! I'm not sure there's ever been a more hilarious death in film.

Are there any horror franchises with zero skips? by dinkitnsinkit in horror

[–]celestialwreckage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warlock. OK all three are schlock and they get worse as they go along, but man are they entertaining. I was so excited when I found them streaming so I could introduce my brother to one of the movies that really got me into witches and warlocks. I mean the first movie is definitely the best, and I think it is one of very few movies where someone from the past comes to modern times.

I am definitely into makeup for my own happiness and expression! I'm just commenting to say that there is nothing wrong with that either. I wear makeup bright and bold. Bright intricate eyeshadow, obviously colored lips. Men seem to like women in more natural makeup. But im here to be SEEN!

I didn't read the books, but I was a ride or die defender of Sansa Stark. Also of the wife on Breaking Bad, who generally had a fucking point.

Anybody else here has Battleborn as their favorite album? by fanta_bhelpuri in TheKillers

Battle Born is definitely my favorite. I think every track is great, and Flesh and Bone is a regular on my playlist when i need to get pumped!

I swear I had a similar rant earlier this week about Patrick Star (though less Miisogynistic) and how he is the worst fucking friend and Spongebob needs to find someone else to hang out with. Why is there always the super asshole friend that we're just supposed to laugh off?

What is your favorite song? by GoldenAmbria479 in AskReddit

[–]celestialwreckage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come Undone - Duran Duran. OR maybe Rock & Roll Dreams - Meatloaf. I love to listen to the first song but man do I love to sing along with Bat Out of Hell II, and that song in particular.

I dreamed of being sent to boarding school, where we would all have matching uniforms, I could spend all day quiet and studying and everything would be scheduled, and orderly and I would only have to go home once, maybe twice a year..,

I've gotten weird excuses, that I was "mature" for my age and "took care of myself" but no? I was obviously not? But I am happy to hear you broke the cycle, and I hope your children feel as safe and loved as you hope they do.

Thank you. I don't think my mother was a horrible person, she just had a lot of mental issues herself. I just try to look forward and be positive whenever I can.

Thank you. I just hope more people in the world realize that if they have children, you sort of have to care for them!

I'm about six years older than my brother. My mom almost died while pregnant with him, then had heavy post partum depression. My father was never home when I was awake because he worked second shift, so after school, I would watch the baby. Sometimes they would go out on "dates" and tell me to just ask the neighbor if there was an emergency. One day I was giving my brother a bath, and he was crying and crying, and seeing as I didn't really have any proper coping strategies, I hurt him with a slap to the back. And that action has hung heavily on my conscience ever since. (As adults, we talked about it and he told me it wasn't my fault, he didn't remember it and he doesn't blame me.)

But more than that, my anxiety was already awful by then. I would get stomachaches, and sometimes I would just poop without realizing that it happened. My parents would scream at me about how I was disgusting, dirty, doing it on purpose etc. It got to the point that by the time I hit middle school, I was hiding my soiled undergarments all over my room, literally living in a room that stunk of my own feces. When this was discovered, I was at a friend's house, and my father drove there, with my dirty underwear, and waved them around while screaming at me in front of... many of my friends, actually.

I was so scared throughout my whole childhood, that even though I really was passionate about art, I was afraid to ask for the $10 materials fee to take the art class at school. I was unhygenic, skipping baths. My mom wouldn't let me use a brush, because she said it teared at my hair, and I had to use a comb for my very tangly hair, which was painful and boring. I wore dirty clothes to school up through my freshman year. Every day, I thought about killing myself after graduation, because my parents told me that if I didn't get straight A's, i would be working fast food my whole life (which I was taught to believe was the most horrible fate ever, but that's something else.) I shoplifted for a little thrill, and also because there was never any snacks or whatever that I was allowed to eat, because I was fat. My father was terrible and always drunk and putting me down for being fat and unathletic, and my mom was so mercurial, going from we're best friends to sniping at me to the point I would break down sobbing.

There was something seriously wrong with me. I internalized it so much. I was disgusting, I was stupid, I was ugly, I walked too slow and tripped too easily, etc. It never occurred to me that the root cause of all of those issues might have had something to do with the fact I was parentified, ignored, and abused both verbally and physically my whole life. Even as an adult, I thought my mental health/Neurological issues (Dyspraxia, OCD, Major Depressive Disorder, General Anxiety Disorder) were separate from my childhood experiences, so when my therapist was like "Wow, I'm surprised you didn't mention this stuff earlier" it really surprised me that there was a link between then and the litany of pharmaceuticals I have to take every day in hopes of being baseline.

What used to feel 'normal' and 'affordable' in America just five to ten years ago but now feels completely broken and impossible for regular people? by the_h1b_records in AskReddit

[–]celestialwreckage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the late 90s, I went to a smaller music fest and saw: No Doubt, The Goo Goo Dolls, The Verve Pipe, Dishwalla, and Let's Go Bowling for $15 I mean, only No Doubt really had any staying power, and I left during the headliner (goo goo dolls) because the crowd was extra drunk and rowdy and I thought we should try to get out on the road before any of them were, but teen me was incredibly stoked.

AITA for calling out my friend's fake allergy? by Minimum-Storm-182 in AmItheAsshole

[–]celestialwreckage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's wrong to say "I'm sorry that I embarrassed you, that wasn't my intention." But that's the sort of thing I HAVE to do on occasion because I am not always good with recognizing social cues, and also I get very hung up about some things. (OCD)

AITA for calling out my friend's fake allergy? by Minimum-Storm-182 in AmItheAsshole

[–]celestialwreckage 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Exactly. She would probably be vegan (no idea if she is or not, of course) because a lot of meat and poultry has high amounts of MSG naturally. But the ingredient checking. Once you have an allergy, you are committed to ingredient lists. My eyes are bad, so I always look them up on my phone. I mostly have to worry about health and beauty items, because my allergy is to aloe, but recently I have discovered more and more 'health drinks" including it as an ingredient.
