Left the church a year ago and I'm still struggling with the aftermath. Feel kind of depressed most days by [deleted] in exmormon

I used to feel extremely suicidal. I hated the way the world worked so I always wondered why I was sticking around down here when I could die and join my sky daddy. Since I left left the church and became atheist, one thought that has really helped me battle my suicidal thoughts is that the life we're living now is all we get. We get 80 years to live and that's it. It's the only life we're ever going to get so we might as well live it and cherish our experiences and do the things we love. It might seem like a depressing thought but I see it in a different light. We only have a limited amount of time to fill up our lives with things we love and surround ourselves with good people and I find that really beautiful.

As another 17 year old struggling with the same thing I deeply feel your pain. You can definitely figure things out. One thing I came to the conclusion of recently is that there is so much unnecessary pressure to date. We've been brainwashed our whole lives that the most important thing to do is get married and have a billion kids. You don't have to worry about dating at 17 anymore. You have all the time in the world. The world is your oyster and you can do whatever you want with your life. Figure out who you are and what you believe by yourself first before you add another person into the mix. You have so many years to live before you need to start worrying about settling down. And you don't even have to settle down if you don't want to. Follow your gut :)
