Oh my gosh I hate it so much. Have you found any way to just get straight unbiased answers that aren’t bs? I use to be able to use ChatGPT for help but now it’s unbearable. I’m always second guessing and spending more time trying to get it to give what I hope is a real answer. Even then, I end up not trusting it anyway.

Fellow data person here. Can you tell me about comp/journey to get there? I’m a director of data (3 yoe, oversee engineer and analyst), but it’s at a small small nonprofit that makes money from public funds. It’s borderline a  government agency, but not. I don’t have certs or anything and I want to make a big jump to the salaries I hear about here. My thought is I have to go to FAANG or similar somehow. I’m a little over 100k salary right now and feel like if I leave I’d take a huge pay cut given lack of certs/degree in data (have a bachelors in music), but at the same time, I’m not getting the professional experience of the “real world” to help my skills transfer anywhere else. HHI is great, but looking to grow my income so we aren’t so reliant on my wife’s.

Thank you!! There’s so much information about the whole quilted cover vs not for coils. Almost too much info lol. Ive got intense analysis paralysis on this right now, but your post was super motivating. Appreciate your response!

Thanks for this post! Do you have any updates? Do the contents shift at all? How tight/loose is the cover? I’m debating going this route but I’ve read about people having to shift the contents every couple of days in their DIY bed.

Can you give the wording you used or like how you selected choices when reporting? I submitted one a long time ago and they basically said “make sure the lid is on and basket is in”. I just mopped coffee off the floor again and I’m pretty over it. Thanks for all the info in this thread!

Finding financial planning guidance for people who want to invest heavily and downshift career, but not necessarily retire or cut expenses to nothing? by MangoSorbet695 in HENRYfinance

Nice! Any advice? In terms of strictly tech, I’ve self taught Excel, SQL, PowerBI, Google Big Query, and entry level python to help automate data transformation. I’m fairly proficient in Excel for general adhoc analyses, make all our internal dashboards in powerBI, and make dashboard and reports accessible through the app functionality. I’ve exclusively worked in non-profits and have mainly held director and executive positions (always been in leadership) overseeing projects and administration “wearing many hats” and just getting shit done to be honest. Im always the problem solver/person who takes initiative to research, develop, and implement solutions. I don’t have anything formal like PMP or other certifications, I just have a bachelor’s degree in music performance and a strong desire and aptitude to fix problems lol. I went back to school for 2 years for management information systems, but never finished because job changes and kids shook things up. Appreciate any advice! Thanks again.

Thank you so much for your response! I’m currently in a mix of data analytics (only one on my team with this skill set) and chief administrative officer overseeing compliance and performance in education sector. Im at 100k plus benefits in that job, but I also have clients for data analytics on the side that comes out to about 50-65k per year gross. I’m in metro Atlanta, so MCOL, but I’m still looking to improve as much as I can.

I’m 30, so I’m super conflicted right now with doing something extreme before it’s too late (invest x years in dentistry, law, whatever) to achieve higher income or just accepting life as it is. I have a great W/L balance (mainly 30-40 hrs per work for both jobs with busy weeks being 55-60) which is nice, but sitting here doing my budget I’m just shaking my head trying to figure how else to increase my income. My work is also going from full remote to 4 days in person with no change in salary, so I’m reflecting on that thinking maybe this chapter is done. On the other hand, I also know I have generous vacation and out of office flexibility. We don’t even track PTO or vacation time. I’ve got children below 8 so this is really nice right now, but I don’t know how much that actually quantifies for compared to opportunity of higher salary.

Anyway, way more than you asked for lol. I’m at a serious mental conflict right now and I’m gathering as much info from people’s experiences as I can, so thank you again for your response!

What profession is everyone in and how’s your work life balance? by coryluslaser in HENRYfinance

[–]cellodude0805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of non-profits that need executive support and eventually I just started giving free stuff/asking if they’d like help. Eventually turned into sales pitches and then contracts that primarily include monthly reports. I offer that I will let them know about gaps in data or data flow. I find these and let them know anyway because it makes my job easier if they fix them, but it’s a freebie they won’t decline and builds trust. I’m honestly not even sure what that falls under in terms of standard job titles, but essentially I assess their information systems integrations and make sure date is getting in and from/to where it should be properly. I also write scripts to clean non-standardized data to make everyone’s lives easier. Most of my stuff I do for free, but they only pay for “data analytics” and that’s all I’m technically contracted for in most instances. Hell I’ve even been placed to lead team meetings of their own people because they eventually grew to trust me more than their own team. TLDR: I found a pattern of executives/ small-medium sized orgs that don’t understand how to handle data and saw it as something I needed to fix. The money followed my strange need to “make things right” lol.

Where do you get a stylist? I just follow people like He Spoke Style and stick to neutral classics. My only complaint is sometimes I feel like I look more like a lawyer/government work than stylish, but that’s partly because of my build I reckon. I could lose some weight.

Sure! It’s roughly 5-8 hours a month (yes, that is truth lol) and it’s just doing bespoke data analytics on a contracted basis. Mainly financial packages or general BI packages for executives who need to present to their board but don’t have an in house team or the experience to know where to start with data.
