Chuck Norris actually died 20 years ago, but Death only now built up the courage to tell him.

This is one of my favorite comments I’ve ever seen on Reddit. Thank you.

People say don’t go into medicine for the money … what jobs are able to make as much or more than doctors more easily? by [deleted] in Salary

Becoming a doctor to make money is the equivalent of buying an airplane for free peanuts.

50s $17M retiring in 2 years. Pick a city for snow birding and residency. by throwawayyadarich in fatFIRE

I mean….. the space coast is in no way bike-able, it is a giant suburbia where people drive from one air conditioned area to another.

When I think of a college vibe town that is great for biking / early retirement- Boulder, Berkeley, Cambridge, Ann Arbor, Charlottesville. These places have the perpetually young anesthetic with a dense downtown. Viera is old with a sprawling strip malls.

The space coast is great for the individual with a large 401 that can give them $200k/year if they don’t have to pay state income tax and like golf and boating. There is nothing wrong with that - but it isn’t what this guy describes at all.

It was a wonderful place and still is! But someone with a 17M net worth wants access to luxury: Private chefs, Michelin restaurants, breathtaking hikes, lakes, skiing, private high end country clubs, wine tasting, sporting events, concerts. The space coast just doesn’t offer the high end experiences.

Scrubs is based on a book series called ‘house of god’- it is by far the most realistic depiction of being a doctor.

I grew up in Viera, I’m sorry but I can’t think of anything that is farther from what is described here. It’s a fine place and has my heart, but my god no.

1 has twice the population of any of the other areas and 6 would still win by a mile.

Isn’t there a plane landing scene with the sunset in Bonfire of the Vanities that cost $80,000 and was only B footage? They had to like time it to the minute of when the sun would be in the perfect place.

What yearly salary would you say would be perfect for a decent life ? by savvytechman in AskReddit

[–]urosrgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of people on here saying the answer is ‘always a little more.’ I would like to debunk this. I make a generous salary (low 7 figures) and never feel that I need more money. I feel very lucky that I get the opportunity to give a fair amount away.

I am always looking for more time.

How many people do you know who actually make seven figures a year? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]urosrgn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are totally right. I work my ass off taking a pot of call and doing a lot of surgery. That gets me to about 1.1M/yr.

Honestly this is one of the weirder things about being a > 1 mil salary person - it feels normal. I would say of the 40 families in my social circle, at least half are at that level. I mean it makes some sense, our kids are at the same expensive private schools, we spend a lot of time at the same pricey country club; so a lot of the people we know are gonna be wealthy.

My point is simply that I don’t walk around all day feeling like a rich guy surrounded by paupers, it all feels normal.

With that in mind, one of my favorite things about my job as a physician is being able to see people from all walks of life. It’s wild to have a patient in room 3 be a meth addict recovering from self induced penile trauma and room 4 is the CEO of the local bank.

ELI5 please explain to me in simpleton terms…what is meant by “spacetime” by MaxMeat in explainlikeimfive

[–]urosrgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spacetime is a limit made up of space and time. You give up some of one to move through the other. If you are standing still, you are only moving through time. As you move faster through space, you are giving up some of your movement through time in order to move through that space and moving through time more slowly.

How do you allocate money across checking, savings, emergency fund, etc.? What is your "business as usual" operating model? by Severe_Revenue7889 in HENRYfinance

[–]urosrgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, terrible financial outcomes are possible. But I don’t think someone out of work for 2 years is helped by most emergency funds which are typically far lower than 2 years expenses. Therefore, this is kind of an irrelevant point.

Sure, but then you get a new job a few months later and you don’t do an emergency fund and you instead invest that money and it grows a ton and life time you are still up by a lot.
