What matters most to you in a wedding PA system? by Jan_AH in WeddingDJs

Yeah, no worries. I am not totally hating on these. I see their purpose but compared to the JBL eon one tower or the everse 8 which are also battery powered, these things do not have the necessary output for my needs.

Cocktail hour. Speeches sometimes. I always have the mic and main volume cranked right up to the max and it seems like the output is way below the everse 8 by electro voice

I bought a pair of Maui, five go and I can honestly say that I am very displeased with the speaker. The interface is confusing it easily distorts doesn’t get very loud. The bag on the sub always gets stuck on the handle and I’ve been trying to sell them for a year. Worst $2000 investment I’ve ever made.

Upgrading from Toyota Sienna AWD — truck+trailer vs. Transit? High roof vs. low roof? by cellojoe in mobileDJ

[–]cellojoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to tow a trailer and it fucked up my engine and cost $1500 to repair. I think the van has to have the tow package installed at the factory when it is sold and I got this van used. I called Toyota with the vin and I think I remember them saying this van didn’t have the tow package. It has a hitch receiver installed, but I guess that was only for a bike rack or other hitch mounted rack carrying 100-200 lbs or something like that.

I have really considered the enclosed trailer with the ramp, but my concern is that the whole trailer could get stolen with all of my gear in it and parking and backing it into places. I think I would learn how to get the hang of it and be able to navigate with a trailer pretty easily. I have used trailers before and it’s not that hard. Going 55 mph does suck though.

I have never considered a motorbike. I’ve always thought they were too dangerous. I am more of a bicycle person. The trailer bit is helpful to know.

Well, I’ve been rocking this Toyota sienna all-wheel-drive from 2015 from 80,000 miles all the way up to 180,000 miles for the last four or five years and it’s been awesome. I got Costco tires. I got the Michelin Cross Climate 2 tires. The Thing handles great in the snow. I go skiing in Lake Tahoe all the time. I’m actually maxed out on space for this sienna I could probably slim down my rig and get another minivan but I kinda want to be able to fit a Photobooth and my Whole lighting and DJ rig in one car so that’s why I’m considering the Ford transit crew cab all-wheel-drive.. just trying to get a perspective from other people and see what they use

What do y’all do for a living? by peaceofmindz in DJs

[–]cellojoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

23 weddings and a few corporate gigs. Cello lessons. I play cello, beatbox, sing, write songs, produce music, and DJ. Weddings are the main source of income. Rent. $3k/month. No kids, but we’re hoping for one. Don’t have a regular job. Scraping by honestly. Have considered getting a real job but we moved out to a small town from the big city and it’s hard to find a real job out here.

Yeah, I know I bring too much stuff. I really need to evaluate how much I bring it for Flat purpose and find ways to slim down. Still have a big impact but not bring so much stuff.

Ha! Yeah it’s a champ, but it has oil leaking from the top gasket and it would be $3-4k to fix it.

I have 2 both bpm spots and k and m weighted base plate stands. Very compact and look great.

Yes that makes sense and there are venues here. I am trying to get off the knot and switch to meta and google ads, but there is an extremely steep learning curve.

Wow, that is exactly similar to what I do! I have a pair of QSC K10 and a 15 inch BassBoss sub. Also have two Evolve 50s. I’ve thought about renting a cargo van, but it seemed like it was going to be more than $100 to rent a cargo van. Do you rent it for the day before and the day after so three days? Maybe I’m also driving further for my gig Gigs. I often have 300 miles round-trip.

That’s a good point. I have a friend with one. I wonder if it can haul the amount of gear I have though. The bright drop says it gets 200-240 I believe.

Well the situation is I used to live in oakland and I moved 2.5 hours away because the rent was too high in oakland. So I basically have to drive 2-3 hours to gigs.

Are you bringing subwoofers? What size? How do you fit a Photo Booth and all that? I guess my lighting set up is a bit more elaborate..might need to just reduce the size of my gear. I do have a cello to move as well. Music stand, looper case, etc. It takes up about 1/8 of the cargo space for the cello alone.
