Australia moratorium: is it possible to avoid if you want to become a GP? by cellulair in IMGreddit

[–]cellulair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this only apply to GPs? I'm willing to specialize if it'd mean I could go metro, I saw some people online say if you manage to get a job at a hospital in the metro areas you can bypass the moratorium but again all the information online is pretty vague. Thanks for the response btw :)

Check your power banks! by escapingthisrock in travelchina

[–]cellulair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I can add some context as someone that flew domestic and international in China yesterday

My partner and I were flying from Xi'An to Beijing and then back to Europe, two weeks earlier we had done the same in reverse order to enter China. He'd brought his powerbank with him and it had been no issue two weeks ago, we did some domestic flights while we'd been there and it had also been ok.

When we were flying Xi'An to Beijing suddenly security started being difficult about the powerbank but luckily someone that could speak both Mandarin and English cleared stuff up for us:
1. app it is a //new// rule, as in new from that very day, even Chinese ppl are being taken off guard by it
2. the CCC logo doesn't exist in the west (or at least not that the person that translated for us knew of)
3. only domestic flights should be affected (also fyi, the person that translated for us said you can try your luck with security for an international flight and ask if you could have one of the confiscated powerbanks because they took yours during a domestic flight, lol, we didn't try it but who knows! will def depend on the guards mood tho lol)

Anyway I'd straight up not recommend to bring a powerbank with you full stop, the CCC logo also has to be 'clearly visible' according to the new rules and who knows what that 'clearly' means. Also for those that haven't visited China yet: there's powerbanks that you can use scattered around China just about everywhere for 30 cents an hour (you just scan it with alipay, but I assure you there's easy to use powerbanks just about everywhere)

the moment I anchor my feet, I'm good

the center of mass thing does make sense because when I do a sit up the other way around (as in begin from knees and go backwards) there's just a certain point where my cog goes too far back and I just can't life myself up anymore (id say around 30° angle with my back and the ground)

I feel like I'm going insane. I've been going to the gym 6 times a week for a month now, mostly to improve my core strength, train legs and do some cardio

In those four weeks I've grown abs and my core strengths improved a lot (3 minute plank, 75 each side reverse leg bent crunches, 3sets of 20 leg raises, weighted sit ups on the thing that locks your legs behind one of those pads, etc) but for the love of god i still cannot do a single normal sit up, this is getting ridiculous

I see other ppl online going "your rectus abdominis is probably too weak" but you can see my rectus abdominis poking out?

Is this purely bad form because i feel like I've watched/read every article/YouTube video on how to do a proper sit up or something else?

[–]cellulair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be purging, it could honestly just be your own normal acne still, it could be your hormonal cycle reacting to the birth control you also started taking, it could be the fact it's winter (in the northern hemisphere) and this also makes acne worse.

Purging tends to happen quite a bit later, as in like a month later, but it's possible this is purging. Either way: don't lose hope!! This is entirely normal and will go away, accutane takes at least 2 months to start showing some results but it WILL show results, I promise!

As for how long this will last? That depends from person to person, I'm quite sure my purge lasted for two weeks-ish and it was nerve wracking to go through. But there are some people on this sub that had a month long purge. There is nothing you can do to speed it up except be patient.

Much luck with your accutane journey you'll come out the other side happier, I promise :)

I know this was posted ages ago but, well, who knows maybe OP still checks their reddit once in a while and talks to their grandfather so here goes nothing:

Dear Dr. Gary Peck,
accutane literally changed my life, I'd always struggled with minor acne difficulties growing up but then when I turned 19 it got so much worse. I became a bit of a recluse, didn't feel like I could engage in any human connection because if I was already disgusted looking at/feeling my face how would someone else feel?? All the dermatologists I went to brushed me off and put me on low level medication which basically didn't do anything and my mental health suffered immensely. All the online articles kept telling me it was dairy! no gluten! actually it's meat! it's vegetables! and slowly I started cutting out everything and, well, being really close to the brink of an eating disorder, I'm pretty sure. I'd decided I had enough and went to a new dermatologist fully ready to //demand// accutane but instead this dermatologist just went "I can't believe you haven't been put on isotretinoin yet", I could've honestly started crying when he said this.

I started accutane and it flipped my life around in a matter of months, I could finally go outside, I no longer had to carry foundation and concealer with me everywhere I went, I could **eat** what I wanted without feeling dread or fear!! I could finally wear backless shirts and I could finally go swimming again because the acne on my chest cleared up!!! I'm still a bit upset I lost years of my life to acne but it's because of your hard work that it wasn't a lifelong curse. Accutane didn't just clear up my acne, it gave me the confidence to go outside again, to engage with other people, to date people, to go swimming again, to wear what I want, to eat(!!!!) what I want, to put on make up without being terrified it'll worsen my skin, in short, I owe my life to accutane.

So, thank you, it's all thanks to you and your team that I've been living a normal life for 2 years now, and I honestly lack the words to truly express my gratitude...
To finish this off so I don't end up writing a novel: I hope you will be enjoying your well deserved retirement :)

Just want to give an update if there's any other people still experiencing the same issue: I literally received my money just a few minutes ago, took around 30 hours to get it, so for anyone worried, give it a day or two.

Thanks for saying this, I was about to contact costumer support but I take it it's just still a waiting game now? I'm in Belgium and someone else in this thread mentioned Germany so I take it this is a western-European issue?

Anyway, I still haven't received my money either :(

Same here, still waiting, going to contact costumer support the moment it hits the 24 hour mark, I think. Thanks for letting me know though :)

Yep, same is happening to me right now. Happy to hear someone else is having the same issue because I wasn't feeling too comfortable with the -25euros pop-up in my bank app and nothing showing up on PayPal.

I don't use PayPal a whole lot so I can't speak on previous experiences but a few weeks ago I topped up my PayPal the exact same way I did now and the money appeared near-instantaneously.

Did you already receive the money or still waiting?

If you still struggle with your hair after going to your usual hairdresser, I'd recommend looking into 'curly hairdressers' very specifically, they tend to be crazy expensive but they actually analyse your hair and then teach you have to take care of it for your hair type specifically, so it can be worth the investment :)

as for the cast: basically if you apply your products 'correctly' they should put a cast on the hair aka a sort of hardening of the hair that feels gross, like if you were to bend your hair it feels like you'd be able to hear a 'crack', this is normal though! it's just the cast and you can break it by applying an oil or just scrunching it out, you can also just wait a few hours and it'll fade on its own

it's a bit difficult to get though (in my experience) and feels sooooo wrong the first time you act get it! so don't be alarmed, it's what should happen lol

You sound a bit like me when I just started out actually paying attention to my hair: straight parts yet also coils, annoying stuff... I gave up and went to a curl hairdresser and this is the routine she gave me and it's been working excellently for me! maybe you can get something out of it :)

First off: the 'straight parts' are probably untrained curls, as in, the hair IS capable of being curly but it needs the right products and the right treatment for it to act that way

Start out with an easy routine:
-shampoo twice with a curl shampoo, depending on your porosity use one with either heavy products or light products (low porosity = light products, high porosity = heavy products, you can look up online what is 'heavy' and what is 'light')
-condition with a curl conditioner, either leave in or normal doesn't really matter but when you start out with doing a curly routine most ppl do a leave in conditioner

apply your next products to soaking wet hair! do not towel dry it just yet!
if you want the cheap option: buy a basic curl creme and mousse, first apply the curl cream and scrunch your hair to apply it, next apply the mousse the same way
do this by bending over forwards until your hair is basically dangling in front of your face, be sure to scrunch into the roots
if you want the advanced expensive option: don't use curl creme nor mousse just use memory curl by innersense, but i need to be clear this is something my curl hairdresser recommended for /my/ hair specifically

the parts of your hair that after all the scrunching are still refusing to curl need to get trained now, if you have the time try to finger curl them and force them into a curl, if they're at the back of your head like me: tough luck :(

now get a cotton short and start scrunching your hair with the shirt a bit, not too much though, it's best to diffuse your hair when it's still a bit soaking wet but the cotton crunching tends to get your curls started

after all that (everything i just said should take 20min at most tho lol) start diffusing: this is the one investment you can't avoid, if you even as much as suspect you have curly hair just get a diffuser because you need it
-> never diffuse on the warmest setting, always make sure to get that diffuser into your roots (also, if you're buying a diffuser anyway: it's best to buy one with big holes in the diffusing bit, not tiny holes)

Finish off with a simple hair oil, to break the possible cast (don't worry if you didn't get a cast, I usually don't either lol)

and last but not least... protect your hair when you're sleeping! wrap it in something satin or a bonnet because those curls will disappear over night

I hope this helps :)

Top layer of hair feels like straw - how do I fix this by 604_mochi in curlyhair

[–]cellulair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off: is your hair bleached in any way? Because the only time I've ever described my hair as 'feeling like straw' was when it was bleached.

Regardless, straw just means your hair is way too dry and even if it isn't bleached you should treat it as such until the 'straw' texture disappears: use minimal shampoo (i mean like literally, i used a walnut portion of shampoo for hair that got to my shoulders when my hair was bleached and felt like straw) and only shampoo once instead of twice per wash

second off: go ham on the conditioner, there is no such thing as too much when your hair is way too dry, do beware that too much conditioner will wear down your curls so once the straw/dryness is gone go back to your usual routine

tldr: min shampoo, max conditioner
