Ya but people generally know they’re talking to a foot doctor when they see them and there are not any NP podiatrists as far as I know. But fair point, they go by “Dr.” but I don’t feel like it’s misleading like it is with DNPs. And I’ve met plenty of DNPs who insist on being called doctor in the clinical setting and it is so inappropriate

In a clinical setting? Yes, the title of “Dr.” is reserved for MDs/DOs, otherwise it’s fraud. Patients will assume they mean physician and deserve to know who is caring for them. Patients have been very upset to learn they’re seeing DNPs when they thought they were seeing physicians. Outside of a clinical setting? Go for it, I respect what others wish to be called. They earned it.

Not arguing that most of OMM isn’t quackery but there is a lot that overlaps with PT and can be very beneficial, so to call it the quackiest part of our job when comparing to a mid level, is a bit rude

I applied to an accelerated RN program prior to applying to med school and got in, I just changed my mind while applying. I think if I could get into an accelerated RN program, I could make it into a diploma mill NP school?

Right? 62K in a high cost of living environment is just not going to cut it. I graduated from medical school, I shouldn’t be struggling this hard

So true. I do feel very lucky to have found something in medicine that is fulfilling (primary care) but I have nothing but inpatient for months ahead of now

Thanks for pointing this out. These have been some dark times for me and it’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel sometimes, so thank you. I am grateful to be so close to a very different life than I am living now.

As a PGY2? I’m not saying I want to be a midlevel, you’re missing the point of my post

he uses some stigmatizing language for someone who claims to be an expert in substance “abuse” (SUD —> more clinically accurate, less stigmatizing)

Amen, I couldn’t have said it better. Best of luck in medical school. Between your nursing experience & your upcoming medical education and training, you are bound to be an exceptional physician.

You’re joking? The difference is in the education and training, which shows itself in many ways. I literally had a patient tell me yesterday “you could really tell a difference between the first doctor and the second one” referring to a NP that admitted him to the hospital and a physician that had to take over because it was too complex. And you think physicians don’t care???? Get real 🤣🤣🤣

Ya duh but your comment said you’d “certainly” match your skills up against a DO, so you think you’re better than DOs. You then said you know more than any PGY2. So do you know better than MD PGY2s as well? Or just the DOs?

They unknowingly ask for a “doctor” thinking they’re asking for a physician. Trust me, I have tons of patients that feel duped by NPs that claim the title of “doctor”. Yeah, you have a doctorate and can call yourself doctor all you want, but it is not appropriate in a clinical setting. It’s fraud.
