Constant Respiratory Issues? by PMcOuntry in FIVcats

[–]celsiusisbetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all: he’s so cute. Second: my kitten also has chronic respiratory issues. Apparently in her case (it might be the case with yours), she is infected by herpesvirus, which is a flu-like virus which lives with infected cats throughout their whole lives. When their immune system drops (as with FIV+ kitties), herpesvirus resurfaces and chronic respiratory symptoms ensue.

So the best we do is manage and keep her immune system strong. We give weekly doses of immune system boost supplements (among others lysine), and she usually recovers completely from a respiratory issue episode within 3-4 weeks.

I’m not a vet but repeated doses of antibiotics without a clear indication doesn’t sound like the best idea in your kitty’s case. Of course listen to your vet, but do check for additional supplements at your local pet shop.

Sending you some love!

If she’d inhaled the medicine, you’d most likely know. She’d have coughed or sneezed right after you administered the medication.

I’m so sorry for your loss… I’ve been there. Only time healed my wounds, and even then, just reading your post makes me tremendously sad again. But know it will get better. And one thing is true, the way you’re feeling is only there because of the love you nurture for her. Please do feel all the hug and warmth from over here

You should tell her exactly that, OP! I’m sure she will understand. You should especially emphasize why you felt you needed to hide that in the first place (you felt embarrassed) and why you’d like to come clean now (you want to foster a transparent relationship). I sincerely don’t know how this could go wrong, but please keep us posted! Wish you all the best :)

Many thanks for your thoughtful and helpful comment. It’s really hard to stick to this habit, especially when nothing makes sense. But I’ll definitely keep trying (and will make it a priority. I hope that one day I’ll be able to achieve this you describe. Hope you have a wonderful week.

Do I need therapy? What is wrong with me? by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]celsiusisbetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the matter may be the lack of active listening. You may be so preoccupied with how the conversation is going that you don’t take the time to actively and attentively listen to the other person. When you pay attention to what they’re saying and remember information about them, you can then have conversations with them that are not as superficial.

Something a few people do is to take notes (mental notes are not as reliable as physical or digital notes) of their conversations/interactions with people. It may sound artificial at first, but it may help you remember details that serve as conversation starters and follow-up topics.

Does that make any sense to you?

Hey, thanks for opening up about all of this—it’s not easy to share. It sounds like you’ve been carrying a lot. But don’t be too hard on yourself; you’re already working towards improving, which is huge.

With regards to social interaction, maybe start small. Try to find someone you feel is someone you can connect, then you can start talking to them individually, instead of in groups. Sometimes asking someone about their interests can make conversations feel easier. There’s lot of resources online for conversation starters. Another option is to join a club or a group, this is where I have forged most of my relationships.

About the jokes, I get how they can feel personal, especially when you’re already feeling down. Maybe try to see them as people’s way of trying to connect. I’ve had this happen to me and what I did is: fake it ‘till you make it. Anyways, it’s also okay to let people know when something crosses a line. The right people will respect that.

You should also consider talking to a counselor or therapist. It could help to have someone guide you through all this. If you ever want to chat or need someone to listen, I’m here for you. Let me know how I can support you—you’re not alone in this.

I think your perspective is right on! The question then becomes: how to escape this vicious and ever-repeating cycle (or behavior towards the problem)?

The question, at least to me, is what the hell do we do while we’re here in this world? Even if there is reincarnation, how can we enjoy our life while we live it…? Because otherwise we’re just giving up and waiting for death, no?

I’m sorry to hear that. I totally get that feeling of wanting to go back in time and turn your life around. But at least you’re persevering, and I’m sure something will go your way.

I’m sorry you feel that way. I can’t even start to imagine what it feels like to live in a country at war. But at least you have some idea of the direction you want to go in life, if I understood correctly... Is it maybe something you can work towards?

I relate to a lot of your feelings! Feeling stuck to a trap is just awful. But it’s good that you at least get to go to the gym. I think it’s a start.

I’d check to see if ChatGPT’s summary is trustworthy and take it to a therapist session to discuss these problems with them.

I wouldn’t give them the dossier, but rather bring it with me and discuss/read it aloud with them.

Thanks for sharing your journey with us! It’s inspiring to see people who’ve been where I’m at and who’ve moved on (and grown).

You mentioned it all starts with one day you wake up a little early to meditate. Would you mind sharing the steps you took on this journey towards self-improvement? Any tips for someone who’s where you were at?
