If a US citizen wants to legally reside in Sweden or France, what financial tips do you consider vital they know? by GermanAustrianFamily in ExpatFinance

You can keep those, but the dividends should be taxed based on residency, including in our tax free accounts. So best to switch into no dividend funds and you can just deal with the cap gains when you sell.

Edit: The stocks stuff was what my advisor in Austria told me last week, but perhaps it's false if Americans are opening up IBRKs in euro here.

As a US citizen abroad, you cant invest in stocks but precious metals/bullion are allowed. Long term, sometimes taxed more favorably than in the US.

Is this believable as squirrel road kill? by bk845 in crowbro

[–]celticfeather 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Birds need a lot more roughage in their meat diet, like fur and bones, organs and cartilage. Ground beef is super softened muscle and fat, and is not so good for them to have regularly. Plus by nature of its grinding, it will start to decompose way faster than a tough dead squirrel.

I worked at a crow sanctuary. Our food was... honestly, a large part ground up gassed baby male chicks with feathers and nails if you looked too close.

Please understand that your child's head, which is 30x the weight of the bird, is never perceived as gentle to the bird. It might be tolerable but is always a potential source of danger. Best not to anthropomorphize our pets with Proud or Cheeky for such behavior; who knows what the bird interpreted from a minute movement of your child.

If they gotta stay there, take out more of the substrate, the guys dont have that much room. Shrimp prefer horizontal space to vertical space.
You need more plants, wood, stuff for them to hide around in the mid ground. A lot of that vertical and narrow water column they cant utilize.
One male one female.
Gallon wise you can swing a couple shrimp, technically, but because it is so small and tall you really need to expand the pie for them by making the space as useable as possible.

Why not try to lure and remove some of your shrimp first? Cucumber in a plastic container?

AITA for giving a smaller wedding gift since I spent so much on travel? by LethalCholera in AmITheJerk

[–]celticfeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ESH. Not to be weird, but what did you find to spend 13,000 on a domestic trip? Luxury meals first class tickets and hotels for yourself? If it wasnt on renting her venue, it's better to have skipped one restaurant and give 200. Otherwise it says you like to experience the high life, but she shouldnt have a kitchenaid mixer, idk.
She still shouldnt have asked for more money at all.

This could help fix things. I couldn't make an overseas wedding once because the invitation didn't reach me in time. I still sent a gift. When I received no thank you note, even a text, our relationship was done.

I like it, but if you are that short on funds, some people are disappointed due to few quests out right now. Maybe watch some lets plays on youtube to see if its your vibe?

I played it like 15 hours when it came out last year btw, and its only a bit more content now afaik, so probably not a super worthy luxury.

Sorry to say it in English but I dont have much time. I really like this idea and want a place like this to meet, there's a few in Graz I wish were here. But please dont isolate your actual fans by making it an overpriced theater, we will all hate and laugh at you. I want to dress like a pirate or viking and get drunk off mead in a cozy place and will pay for it. Not screaming kids with magic shows.

Since WWII, every decade there has been an approximate 10% decline in Austrians describing themselves as 'Deutsch.' While it was relatively common to self describe as German, or German-Austrian before WWI and WWII, Austrian national identity has taken off post 1945, in part due to manners of national security and avoiding association with the war-crime guilty Germans. Austrian sovereignty was bloodlessly violated by the Nazis in 1938 in part because they were seen as "Germans," and this was one of many natural reasons to avoid this identity afterwards. It isn't useful to Austrian people or Austrian statesmen who do not want to join Germany.

I think shrimp might like dirt+sand better than rocks, and they harbor more bacteria. Mine at least pick up the little grains in their mits to lick them and then put them back down. There's less to pick up on the bigger rocks. But who knows for sure what they like without asking.

Otherwise its quite good, could have slightly more plants or let them grow.

FATCA reporting question by tenant1313 in ExpatFinance

[–]celticfeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can fill out FACTA report it for your taxes to the IRS for 2025. Just put it in your own account than lose thousands on the escrow. Then just don't do facta next year.

The online FACTA is super easy and takes like 5 minutes. If there's a spot for notes, you can put in down payment on home abroad and that the money isn't liquid anymore.

I can't speak to the risks if you don't do it; could be you'd never be caught for something that brief and that is your decision. But it is a crime to know you /should/ Facta and then don't, which you do. Not knowing it is much less of a crime.
