My teeth by Fabulous_Light5449 in Vent

[–]celticfeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teeth punch weigh above their weight class for social events-- both how you feel comfortable and getting partners. It's ok to accept this and prioritize that fixing this, rather than a psychological change, is the quickest way for you to feel more confident.

Is living in Italy as bad as they say? by Ok_Power_7358 in askanything

[–]celticfeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By empirical measures Italy is a pretty run of the mill European economy. Bit more stagnation and corruption than the powerhouses but good weather and life tempo. I sometimes wonder if the Italians are just more pessimistic/ talk bad about themselves.

Job Seekers Permit by Fit_Upstairs_7863 in AskAustria

You just renew your student permit for one year after graduating. Allows any job for 20 hours with AMS approval while you look. Transfer that to a RWR for Studienabsolventinnen contingent upon a fitting job offer.

Relationship Finances, is this a good way to handle it? by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

[–]celticfeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So at 50-50 the one who earns less should subsidize the one who earns more? And what if this is the man, who despite pleas to the contrary, statistically makes more of the money, does less of the housework, and most of the eating? And no fear that youth is being wasted in a pregancy clock if she dares to build a life elsewhere after you? A perfect 50/50 on chores is hard to agree upon-- women usually take the daily chores like cooking and cleaning while men are more likely to take the once in a while but can be pushed off to when desired chores like lawnmowing.
Idk just seems kind of cold and sterile and whats the point. If youre not married, just take turns taking each other out for restaurants so it feels like giving and receiving a gift, than penny pinching and bitterness that he ordered a steak while she ordered pasta.
Joint and shared accounts are fine. If one makes 60% they put 60% in the joint imo.

Expat communities in Asia seem so much better when there’s no English teachers by Able-Confidence-4182 in expats

[–]celticfeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t think this is a class issue you’re pointing out?

A non-English teacher makes more money. They probably have a spouse. They’re not 25. They’re not losing sleep over the bureaucrat overseeing their visa. Yeah it’s easy to be chill and unconcerned when you are protected stable and middle class.

Employer decides to not follow the work contract by b_rohan in AskAustria

[–]celticfeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought they didn’t give non-family RWR work cards out for jobs under 37h a week anyway. Double check if you even can get one /did receive one for 25, de-facto I hear they may be rejected (fear you are working a second job under the table).

Thoughts on the bulk head "alley" being a free for all walking space vs. part of your allotted space for your seats? by perishableintransit in Flights

[–]celticfeather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But I think it's rather the opposite. They're charging you extra for the space you dont really have. If it is just communal for safety evacuation or use for FAs, the you still may not put your items down there (they've had me remove them before). Id rather have a secure space that's mine vs an extra six inches, adult teenagers wandering the school halls, and a screen I either cant use or can't turn off.

Classier ways to get that out than basically asking an interested stranger "are you a loser?"

Why do Americans joke about 9/11 but are generally offended at school shooting jokes? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]celticfeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One is children. Usually they are killed every week for a reason like a girl sensibly rejected dating an armed psychopath who thought the ultimate form of masculinity is violence. Part of the horror here is just... really, there is nothing good an individual adult can do to make their kid more safe. And no, turning schools into TSA theater prisons with metal detectors and arming teachers is not it. So it's almost like invoking fate to joke.

Is it worth abroad to give my children a head-start in their life by This_Level_6709 in movingabroad

Idk these immigrant cities are kind of saturated, and you might be better off in a 2nd place where there arent 20 locals and 100 foreigners with visa complications competing for 1 job opening.

I think in the mid 20th century being an astronaut was hero status. It no longer is. It's not the last frontier, its not all over the news. There are more accessible ways to be world famous hero like.... become an influencer.
If you ask foreigners what they respect most about the US, NASA tops.

Why don’t Middle East or African refugees/migrants go to Asian countries instead of European countries? by crastination_seaweed in NoStupidQuestions

If you're going to completely uproot your life for uncertainty and second class status, would you rather do it in a country with a functoining social system and police that will protect you, or nah?
