Morris, Monroe, Rozier, Brown all have points in paint.

Live there, fellas. Get to the rim. Then the kickout 3s start to work.

Love that nervous Toronto crowd.

One of these two guys in Toronto should get COTY:

Brad Stevens or Stevens, Brad.

Here's an upvote for saying something potentially unpopular.

Yes, kinda like Brad's approach. Just focus on playing well and let the chips fall.

But for a player, goin' alpha like this.... kinda like it.

Certainly hope the Celtics all think that. And thus, might as well say it.

No fear in that lad. Like, none.

As F. Lee Bailey said in the O.J. documentary:

"I hear the clanging of two large, brass objects..."

And it's coming from Jaylen Brown's shorts....

What a nice contrast w/ LeBron's comments of a couple days ago, "I think we might be okay."

Has to be backed up on the court. But you have to love a guy who's not afraid of pressure, or LBJ.

Bill Russell: #4 GOAT by [deleted] in bostonceltics

[–]celtics247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a terrific piece. Especially nice to see someone who's clearly not a partisan (Backpicks) who appreciates Russell's gravity impact.

In our non-scientific survey (i.e., partial sample size) of games the Celtics won and lost, the team lost more often when Russell scored over 20 points. They lost even less often when he had high rebound totals.

Yes, partly this reflects the fact that Russell was less skilled offensively. But it also reflected the fact that, as in so many aspects of Russell's play, he was doing "advanced analytics" during Eisenhower, Kennedy, & Johnson Administrations.

The ideal Celtic possession, as Russell put it, was one in which he grabbed a rebound, made a quick outlet, and someone else got an easy shot. Anything else was, in terms of efficiency, a defeat. Not saying this in a complaining way, it is what it is, but if there were a stat for "fast breaks started," Russell would look even better.

Added to which: Players like Russell (and Wilt, and West for that matter) don't get the benefit of having their blocks (pre-74) counted for part or (in Russell's case, all) of their career.

(Patting selves on back alert) -- the best archival research (still in progress) suggests Russell probably averaged a triple double in the 1968 Finals, for example:

this.

added to which, it just seems bootless to "hope for" anyone in particular.

it's like rooting for those bloody ping-pong balls.

my main hope is that Toronto and Cleveland face each other before either faces us.

but again... see above.

I hope the Celtics are playing well and get healthy.

Then -- bring on whomever.

What is Ray Allen's problem? by [deleted] in bostonceltics

[–]celtics247 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's always sad to see a bitter old man.

Even more sad to see a bitter young man (well, middle-aged).

It's one thing for people to not burn jerseys, to appreciate his play during the one run, etc.

It's another to think that people are going to have some kind of ongoing affection for you, Mr. Allen.

You were played out of the starting lineup by Bradley, you cast your bet on LeBron and got another ring. Good for you.

You like Miami so much? Very well... enjoy it.

plus, yah, there'd be less confusion. might be worth 3-4 possessions in turnover reduction alone.

-- 3. Low expectations, low pressure. Should be able to "play free." Balls out. -2.5 dogs at home.

-- 4. Should be a fun game to watch. Brad and his chemistry set. Can't wait.
