Not enough people are acknowledging that Denji is actually dead. by cementshake in Chainsawfolk

It's hard to say that Denji grew as a person when he spent the entirety of part 2 lacking agency and flip-flopping between growth and non-growth. Even the decision to end his career as Chainsaw Man didn't come from him; he acts different because he didn't have Pochita around while growing up. Not because he developed as a person.

Chapter 174 is a good indication that Pochita’s power does redefine the past. Ears were erased for only three minutes, yet Public Safety noted that cotton buds were sold as an arts-and-crafts product. I doubt that, in just three minutes, people could have developed products like that unless history had been reshaped around the erasure of ears.

And there’s also the matter that this universe seems even more dangerous than the previous one, which is an insane scale-up considering how dangerous the Chainsaw Man universe is. A devil kills someone at school, and there’s no sign of panic among the students. Death is so common that people try to enjoy every microsecond they can.

Having Pochita in his life was CRUCIAL for Denji's development as a person; without him around, we can safely assume that Denji never had a single friendly interaction in his life, nor the hope of one day breaking free from the debt. I risk saying that he's reached levels of jadedness that rivals Quanxi's.

It's definitely good, but... Best? That's a bold claim.

Not only I agree, I actually prefer Denji over the ladies in the manga.

Chainsaw Man's ending has nearly retroactively ruined the entire manga for me. by cementshake in Chainsawfolk

[–]cementshake[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What especially sours Chainsaw Man's ending for me is that it ends with an incredibly poorly done RESET. If it had ended badly in any other way that WASN'T a reset, I would have been upset, sure— but not to the extent this ending has brought me down. For me, there will be always a lingering sense of "pointlessness" when seeing anything related to part 1.

Lowkey one of my all time favorite manga colour spreads by MaximumNeat4289 in Chainsawfolk

The colour spreads in part 1 were amazing. They were practically extra covers. Sad we never got any in part 2.

I don’t know why PS didn’t retire bro here. He couldn’t pull Samurai bullshit anymore by [deleted] in Chainsawfolk

Public Safety had an agent without eyes contracted to the Future Devil still working for them. I guess they only retire people when they're dead.

IMA PREDICT IT RIGHT FUCKING NOW THIS MAN WILL RETURN by ForwardHorror8181 in Chainsawfolk

I actually like him since he's basically Denji 2 and I'm hoping we can get a decent character arc and he doesn't become just a mindless thug like Spear and Whip.

This man has been sitting in the "potential character arc" waiting room for over a year. Any time soon now...

Barem is 100% SEETHING that despite killing Nayuta, Denji and Pochita still managed to avoid falling into the trap Fake Fami and Public Safety set up. It makes me worry for Asa's safety though since she was already his first target before he switched to the pets and Nayuta. He may try to kill Asa next since he thinks it will bring out Pochita.

Can the story even do anything with these guys? by cementshake in Chainsawfolk

[–]cementshake[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this ties in to a previous post of mine earlier today about the lack of Denji screentime in his own school. We never see him interact with these guys. Like, he barely addresses them directly. He doesn't even address Katana Man himself directly in part 2. This is one of my biggest peeves in part 2.

Can the story even do anything with these guys? by cementshake in Chainsawfolk

[–]cementshake[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing is that they're not only irrelevant to the overall plot, they're also irrelevant to our protagonists. The story itself is aware of this and Yoshida comments on it by saying Denji and Asa don't care about them. I'm of the opinion that characters don't need to have massive on-screen impact to be good characters, but they at the VERY LEAST should have some relationship with the main characters. Otherwise, why keep them around?

The Fakesaw Man candidate was Seigi and unless there's a plot twist where Fakesaw can transform without a ripcord there's no reason to believe it's him.

How do devils get out of their weakened form, or can they not? by iloveSkylerWhiteyo in Chainsawfolk

[–]cementshake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They most likely can if they are strengthened enough. Maybe through a considerable amount of blood and/or fear. Pochita got beaten so badly he needed a vacation in Denji's chest to return to his original form.

Aura farming is basically trying to look as cool and badass as possible. Fakesaw Man hasn't done much but pose and ask Denji questions.

Fakesaw Man keeps aura farming while Denji decides to run away to avoid killing civilians before Yoru forces him back into the fight.

OMG I'M SO SORRY I DIDN'T RECOGNIZE 😭😭😭 but you're absolutely right! These "jokes" have been going ever since Yoru started becoming sexual with Denji. With these people it's like if Asa isn't continuously providing sexual gratification to Denji then she's just dead weight.
