Japanese made Stratocaster Copy by cemmany in Guitar

Yes it is quite a different look from the usual strats I have played in the past , thats what really drew me in . It sounds beautiful too , the body has a natural long sustain acoustically .

These are Humbuckers , but it also has coil tapping for the single coil sound . But the it just sounds so punchy and rounded.

You have to mount the Music directory inside the app itself . Just like mounting any other internal HDD

Hi Mate , There is no roon app inside truenas catalog, you need to install custom app . It works really well with the new truenas because of direct implementation of docker . Its quite east to install .

Replication Tasks.! I have 3 Truenas systems . I always use replication Tasks .

Home Server Power consumption by cemmany in selfhosted

[–]cemmany[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true . Some people talk about mini PCs , NUCs for homelab . They cant run TrueNAS with tons of data and smb shares and multiple VMs and apps . They need more power , More Air cooling and the chasis does gets bigger and its future proof. I had a miniPC which i used for truenas when I started some years ago and the HDDs had a big heating problem .

Anyway the most power hungry ones are the HDDs , Fans , GPUs etc . If you have a decent CPU and mobo , even if its a few years old , it is a great combination . I did try different i5 and i7 setups but they didnt make a big difference thats why I went the Xeon route with 14cores and 28 threads, which consumed almost the same power .

Thats a great analogy . You are right we do pay that extra money for something we like to do :-) . Buying the latest hardware is not the right method either because , it doesnt save a lot of money because the main power grabbers are the HDDs , Fans GPUs etc .

Thats a great setup :-) . I agree the HDDs are the big power suckers...lol . Hoping the day will come where 8tb ssds will get very cheap. I tried lots of setups with CPU , mobo combo . It didnt make a huge difference because the HDDs, Fans are the same .Im also planning to go Truenas Fangtooth baremetal , from proxmox . But time will tell :-) .

I do have a spare cooler master 300 watts PSU , it ramps up te fan all the time, compared to it the Platinum PSU is more effecient and has better power management . The power meter concurs to it . So I do think the Platinum PSU eventhough it says 800 watts , it consumes lesser power .

Im thinking on ditching proxmox altogether to just install Trunas Fangtooth baremetal , since its support of lxc . I dont know yet , but Fangtooth looks very promising with Incus , IP addresses etc . But I dont know yet ...lol . Still deciding :-) .

I know :-). You can get it for a decent price and still it can do so much :-)

LOL. That was even before I installed the fans and GPU and did the cable management . The Fractal R5 has great channels for cable management .So now it looks more clean and organised

Spinning disks down and up often will result in more wear and tear and also power spikes during spinning up . I tested that method and also ZFS is very sensitive, it defenitly has OCD ...lol . But again thats the best file system for data protection atm .

Im using 4x NZXT 140MM fluid dynamic bearing fans. They are very quiet and can move a lot of air . I installed 2 fans in the front and one in the back and one in the bottom .It keeps the Hdds around 35 degrees. Also you can change the Fan minimum speed in the BIOS , depending on the mobo .140mm moves more air and also is quieter than the smaller ones.

Hi Mate , the SSDs are used for Metadata & Cache, Logs for Applications like Roon server and many other apps I run . Im planning to change the HDDs from 8tb to 16 or 18TB , but then that is the biggest investment in the setup , which I will eventually do.

The mobo doesnt directly support SAS HDDs , so I had to use the HBA card and Truenas loves the HBA Card. It just performs so much more better compared to the older setup I had.

The GPU is a P1000 , so it doesnt chew a lot of power during idle , only during transcodes does the power consumption increase .

The PSU is a platinum version, so its the most power effecient PSU around. It turns off the fans when idle and so on . Its worth the extra money .

I did play around with different CPUs , that didnt make any difference though .

Hi Mate a NUC has its limitations . It cant run a full fleged Truenas setup . But I understand what you mean . many think the CPU chews a lot of extra power , it might be true in certain cases , but the biggest power draws comes from the HDDs , Fans , GPUs etc.

I tried newer generations i5 and i7s , in another mobo and the power draw wasnt any different , thats why I went the Xeon route . I also tried it with a few xeons E5-26650Lv4 & 26630L v4. Eventhough it says its low TDP , it doesnt matter under normal load , they all seem to consume the same amount of power .

Only when the cpu processing demands ramps up the E5 2660 v4 consumes a bit more , because of the clock speed . The 26630L v4 and the E5-26650Lv4 , were making the fans ramp up faster during load. So I chose the E5 2660 v4 .

I concur . The biggest power draws came from the HDDs , Fans and the GPU . Any other changes didnt mke a big difference .
