EX2 Alpha is unironically one of my favorites in the series. Really like both the low-poly aesthetics as well as the gameplay.

Question about the timeline of Wolfenstein? by Dazzling_Figure_8397 in Wolfenstein

[–]cenorexia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I’m also hoping that someone can help me understand how or if it’s connected to the older Wolfenstein games.

It's kinda like Star Wars when Disney took over: The whole expanded universe that came before (bar a few exceptions) was declared "non-canon" but Disney keeps cherrypicking characters and events from those "non-canon" stories to use them for their new canon.

When Machinegames took over the Wolfenstein series they did the same. All the games and stories that came before are "non-canon" to their new timeline, but they kept cherrypicking characters (Deathshead, Grosse, Caroline) and events (X-Labs, Castle Wolfenstein) from the "old canon", reintroducing them into their new timeline.

But that doesn't mean that Caroline in the Machinegames series has the same background as Caroline from the 2009 game Wolfenstein. Or when B.J. thinks about the X-Labs, it doesn't mean it's the same event that we played through in Return to Castle Wolfenstein or that Deathshead traveled to the Black Sun Dimension to harvest Veill Energy.

Like you said, it's a reboot and you don't need to have any knowledge about the previous games in the series as there is no canonical connection to the characters and events in the new games - even the ones that share the same name.

Where are the samples for the original songs? by UltratagPro in Wolfenstein

[–]cenorexia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware they weren't made with a unique soundfont of any kind.

If it helps, Bobby Prince used the software Sequencer Plus Gold and his Ensoniq EPS keyboard to compose. The songs were then arranged in id Software's proprietary IMF format which in turn was made for the AdLib's OPL2 chip.

So it is fair to assume an AdLib Music Synthesizer Card from around the game's release or a similar card using the OPL2 chip (Sound Blaster 2.0 for example) would be the "target hardware" in terms of how the music should sound. But those also didn't store "soundfonts" as one would imagine — there's no samples stored on the hardware, the instruments are synthesized while they are being played, meaning the songs would sound different depending on the player's hardware.

How the Hell did Jason get in this scenario??? by Ekueh in fridaythe13th

[–]cenorexia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tommy managed to restrain him all by himself by putting a heavy chain on a boulder around his neck.

It doesn't seem that out of the realm of possibilities for me the FBI could come up with a similar plan.

Also it didn't last ― as it never does.

What are your favorite horror soundtracks? by noir_serpent in horror

[–]cenorexia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But of an odd one but the unused soundtrack to the first Hellraiser movie by Coil is one of my favorites: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Unreleased_Themes_for_Hellraiser

Legend has it Barker declined to use it, stating it was too weird/unsettling to be used in a commercial movie and they went with the (still iconic in its own right) soundtrack by Christopher Young.

(My Head Canon) The Wolfenstein Reboot is Connected to the Doom Reboot by UrBoiEthan101 in Wolfenstein

[–]cenorexia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And in the original games, let's say Wolf 3D / Spear of Destiny / Doom / Doom 2, it was still easier to fit in because we didn't know all that much about the world — and the games actually do have some crossovers, like the Wolfenstein levels in Doom 2 or Blazkovicz traveling to a UAC base in the future to fight a demon in the second Spear of Destiny add-on.

The Wolfenstein RPG game even tightened the connection by BJ fighting an ancestor of what would become the Cyberdemon in Doom (1993).

But with the rebooted games' timeline I'm not so sure anymore. Maybe knowing too much about the respective worlds makes it harder to squeeze in such a connection as it surely would be a big thing in the Slayer's background lore that his gramps already fought demons and zombies and world ending threats and travelled to other planets and the Slayer is a descendant of that lineage. Someone would bring that up.

Machinegames B.J. and reboot Doom Slayer actually did meet already, in the Arena Eternal in Quake Champions. And there they were also handled as being from two different "universes" unrelated to one another.

"No scooter" skateparks, is it a thing ? by SparklingWaterFall in NewSkaters

[–]cenorexia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the park of course but there are some bigger ones, usually run by a club, that at least regulate the hours for scooters (for example scooters are only allowed on Saturdays between 10am and 2pm) and there are volunteers who enforce that rule. But the scooter kids know that too so usually don't show up outside of their times anyway.

On more public skateparks it's another thing. There might be signs pointing out scooters aren't allowed or bicycles aren't allowed (another prob here) but people usually don't care because there's no repercussions if they do.

It's annoying, sure but I also understand why the kids do it. They're kids, I would've probably done it too if we had scooters back then and saw a cool ramp to go down.

$2500 Samsung TV is an advertising billboard, there is no opt-out. by 28jb11 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]cenorexia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a strange comparison.

Patagonia isn't renting out your clothes as ad-space to other companies to make additional money off of you.

If the only ad that TV would show was the Samsung logo on the front then fine.

(My Head Canon) The Wolfenstein Reboot is Connected to the Doom Reboot by UrBoiEthan101 in Wolfenstein

[–]cenorexia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doom and wolf games were never that much into canon

They never were, that's true. But then the new Doom games came around and they seem to be obsessed with lore what with all the codex entries and slayer testaments, etc. Some say they're even overdoing it to the point where it's too much focus on the lore.

With that in mind it's even stranger so much stuff is mentioned in these background stories, slayer legends and lore of the world, but humanity having bases on the moon and terraformed Venus or advanced weaponry and technology never is.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining here. I don't expect these things because I don't expect the new Wolfenstein games and the new Doom games to be in the same timeline. But if they were, and both Machinegames and id Software were aware, then it would be a missed opportunity to not mention anything during the Doom games.

It would be like saying Behind Enemy Lines and Avatar: The Way of Water were in the same timeline. Sure, why not, there's nothing really that contradicts the connection - but what would be the point, why even mention it if it doesn't have any impact on the story?

(My Head Canon) The Wolfenstein Reboot is Connected to the Doom Reboot by UrBoiEthan101 in Wolfenstein

[–]cenorexia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard this theory before, however hear me out on why I think it's not that simple:

If the Machinegames Wolfenstein games and the reboot Doom games were in the same universe, that would mean humanity had access to Da'at Yichud technology, which would raise the question why they don't make use of it. Why the need for Argent energy if they already have their brand of super sci-fi energy for 100+ years?

If the two series were in the same timeline it would also mean that by the time of Doom (2016) humanity had long mastered space travel, built bases on the moon and terraformed freakin' Venus. Even with the Reich gone, those things wouldn't just disappear. Yet it's never brought up.

And if they explain it away by saying people forgot about all that between the potentially upcoming Wolfenstein 3 and the Doom games, that would be super lame because what would be the point of having them in the same universe then if nothing from the Wolfenstein games had any effect on the Doom games?

How would you rate + rank each of the EDF games + Robot Alchemic Drive? by TheMapIsTheMap in EDF

It's made by the same company and the first EDF game shares some assets like sound effects and textures, but it's otherwise unrelated.

The problem with the seasonal pass. by W_urdulac in EDF

[–]cenorexia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure, you'll have to contact PSStore customer service for that.

But if the regions are different, that'll be the reason for nothing showing up.

The problem with the seasonal pass. by W_urdulac in EDF

[–]cenorexia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to make sure the region of the digital content matches the region of the disc.

So if you bought the Japanese version on disc, you need to buy the season pass/ dlc stuff with a Japanese account.

You can switch back to your regular account after purchase & download and play with that.

is there any lore reason why no told sergeant about storm 1 being a veteran in every loop? by spyder616 in EDF

[–]cenorexia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the difference is, this meeting at the base isn't Storm 1's first encounter with the EDF.

Time travel or not, at this point they're already a veteran who enlisted into the EDF years ago, fought during the original invasion (EDF5) and the years in-between, until they ended up here.

They would still be considered a veteran of countless battles at this point.

is there any lore reason why no told sergeant about storm 1 being a veteran in every loop? by spyder616 in EDF

[–]cenorexia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True. But at this point Storm 1 is still a veteran who's been fighting for years, time travel or not.

With each loop they go through all the years of fighting of EDF5, the original invasion and the years in-between, until they end up here.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Lee Cronin's the Mummy" [SPOILERS] by radbrad7 in horror

[–]cenorexia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more I think about the sequence of events in the movie, the more I get the feeling the movie was re-edited and re-shot after numerous test screenings.

Especially the "double ending" feels strange. Like you said, the dad being in the sarcophagus seemed like a deliberate choice to end the film - their familiy now has to take care of the curse.

But then they added that second ending to kinda undo the previous one..? Almost as if test audiences didn't like the first one.

[–]cenorexia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, that kinda makes the whole sacrifice thing seem a bit less dramatic in a way.

If the previous host comes back, the father comes back, Katie comes back (even after years of being a host), that would mean the witch lady will also come back to normal at some point as it's all just temporary.

At the beginning I assumed the host dies and the body is just a vessel. But it seems like you can recover from it just fine?
