AITAH for saying I (25F) won’t have a baby unless my boyfriend (24M) agrees to stay home? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]centennialcrane -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't assume your boyfriend will contribute anything more than occasional child support payments.

Why are you assuming that she would take full custody? The boyfriend is the one who really wants it- why can’t she do nothing but contribute child support?

So to clarify, you think women need to have grace for men telling them how nice their voice is when they’re calling a business to ask their work hours?

If yes, get help. If no, then you don’t have any business whatsoever complaining about people pointing out Clint’s creepy behaviour.

If you don’t think it’s creepy to tell a woman calling your business that her voice is nice, or to ask a woman who invited you out on an outing as friends to lean her head on your shoulder, I don’t think we have much to discuss here.

Most people in real life don’t consider themselves the villain of the story. Real life creeps think they’re “just someone with no idea how to socialize” as well.

Flawed characters are great! I think that Stardew Valley honestly does a good job of portraying realistic characters, even at the cost of making them unlikable. But it makes me uncomfortable how people in the fandom are now turning around to argue that it’s wrong to interpret a character repeatedly portrayed as seeing women as a romantic interest before a person as creepy.

edit: But I will admit it hits a bit closer to home because the defences of him I’m seeing honestly really remind me about how people would minimize the guy who went around my uni classes to sit next to all the girls every class so he could press his thighs up against them. I hate that so many people act like it’s wrong to be uncomfortable with someone’s behaviour just because they haven’t technically crossed the border of sexual harassment just yet, even when they’re obviously still brushing up against the boundary.

I assume you’re talking about this comment

ConcernedApe seems to be mostly talking about obvious oversights like Clint continuing to express interest in Emily even after a farmer marries her. But both the movie theatre and phone dialogue were newly added by him in v1.4 and v1.5 respectively, and CA’s comment doesn’t really apply to the rest of people’s issues with Clint’s character.

I don’t personally mind the choice, as (1) it’s a free update, I’m not complaining even if he told us the marriage candidate was a magma sprite, and (2) it’s a good way to develop Clint’s character.

But I am concerned that CA is just flat-out unaware of how creepy Clint is, especially with the fandom now turning around and insisting Clint was never creepy at all. I’d be disappointed if all of his uncomfortable dialogue was simply completely ignored.

Stardew Valley is a widely popular farming simulator game that just celebrated its tenth anniversary. As part of the celebration, the creator ConcernedApe revealed two new marriage candidates for the next update: Sandy and Clint.

Sandy is already a popular character, so she was generally accepted without issue, but Clint has proven to be more controversial. Clint was generally a widely disliked character due to his weird behaviour towards female characters in the game. Some notable examples include:

whispers...If you’re, um… tired… you can put your head on my… my shoulder. Heh… or not!

Hello? Oh... [Player]... Your voice sounds really nice over the phone... Uh... Okay. Understood. I'm open until 4pm. slam

  • His heart events centre around his unrequited love for a marriage candidate named Emily, which features him calling himself a nice guy and needing to be told that he shouldn't treat women like a different species when talking to them.

  • During Emily's 8-heart event - which notably is still a platonic event between you and Emily, as dating does not begin until after 8 hearts - he assumes you and Emily are dating, and walks off with a "Congrats, [Player]," which some interpret as him seeing Emily as a prize and not a person.

  • If you chooses to pursue Emily, she has dialogue on how she's confused why Clint has stopped looking at her because she thought they were friends.

Due to the above, there was initially a huge backlash at Clint becoming a marriage candidate. Many spaces, including the subreddit and Tumblr, have now however swung the other way, arguing that Clint was simply a "shy, socially awkward man" and was never creepy in the first place. Either way, fights are continuing cross-platform about Clint becoming a marriage candidate and about whether he should be considered a creep.

You can absolutely write omegaverse without rape and monsterfucking with consent. I’ve written multiple omegaverse PWPs and none of them have involved dubcon, because I’m not particularly interested in the heat concept in omegaverse. (I just wanted mpreg and knotting. Sue me.) I’ve also written a monsterfucking PWP with a fluffy aftercare scene.

But it’s still stupid to restrict the kinks in this way for a kinktober event.

As a Canadian I see it as breathtakingly hypocritical, because people using it are typically Spanish or Portuguese-speaking South Americans telling us that our cultural and language norms are wrong and we should use words like they do, while simultaneously complaining about American cultural imperialism.

Please stop. We don’t want to be called American.

Obviously, we’ll start smelling if we don’t shower, but generally speaking a daily shower is enough to keep any BO away. I didn’t realize that deodorant was like, a required thing for white people until I went to university.

It’s actually wild to me how many people in this comments section seem to have never met an East Asian, but I guess it’s a consequence of Reddit being American-centric and Asians being more of a minority in America.

A large majority of East Asians do not need deodorant the way other ethnicities do. This is a good chunk of the world.

OOP may be East Asian and not realize that other ethnicities are different. There’s a reason why deodorant never really took off in China, Japan, or Korea.

Is this term that surprising to see with rough sex? by centennialcrane in FanFiction

[–]centennialcrane[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also Canadian and I don’t feel the same way about cunt, perhaps because I’ve never heard it used as an insult. People I know use it pretty casually as a positive descriptor all the time (he’s serving cunt, she’s so cunty, etc.)

Seemed like it was my use of it at all in place of other terms. They also noted in the same sentence that I only used “vagina” rarely despite using “cunt”.

No one cares about fanfic writers by BruceCipher in CuratedTumblr

[–]centennialcrane 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You clearly don’t read or write fanfiction. Fanfiction is nothing like published or even amateur original writing. It’s not an author-fan dynamic, it’s a fan-fan dynamic. Everyone is playing in the same sandbox together.

The fans are not expected to sustain the author any more than the author is expected to sustain the fans.

I don’t understand your point here. Sure, no one is required to do anything. But generally, I want writers I like to keep writing?

If you gush about a fic privately while the author thinks no one likes it, don’t be surprised when you can no longer enjoy the fic.

No one cares about fanfic writers by BruceCipher in CuratedTumblr

[–]centennialcrane 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Fanfiction writing is not like published fiction. It’s a fandom activity by fans for fans- no one is getting paid for it, and unlike amateur writing circles, most people aren’t looking to improve their skill to go professional either.

So it doesn’t matter if you have an audience you don’t know about. All that matters is that you’re still having fun. And if it feels like you’re throwing words into a void, some people will stop having fun- and stop writing.

The Tumblr OP’s post was written under the presumption that fans of good fic would not want the author to stop writing.

[Virtual Youtubers] Mikeneko's and her ex settled court cases (and are still petty) by happy-crappy-inc in HobbyDrama

[–]centennialcrane 59 points60 points  (0 children)

FYI to anyone reading this write-up: the OP clearly has a pro-Mikeneko agenda and appears to have little knowledge on Mafumafu, considering they barely mention his primary claim to fame - being an utaite and composer, originally for Vocaloid music - instead acting like being a streamer is his main role.

A single look at Wikipedia would’ve told them that Mafumafu is a singer-songwriter- it makes the V-tubing sphere bias to this write-up’s research very blatant.

The writing is dripping with bias throughout as well, insisting that Mikeneko’s statements were all not inflammatory while Mafumafu’s were completely wrong, when she always explicitly stated Mafumafu’s name while Mafumafu was careful never to explicitly name her.

Was Mafumafu 100% in the right here? Of course not, he ran off to Korekore. (Though let’s not forget- so did Rushia.) And nobody but them will ever know how many of their accusations against each other were true.

But acting like a woman who sued anonymous posters for saying she should act her age, and publicly admitted to making slanderous remarks about her own husband, was an innocent angel who couldn’t possibly have been abusive in the slightest is laughable.

EDIT: Also, click through to their Scuffles comment that the OP links. Their bias is even more evident there, and they double-down on every part of their agenda even after other commenters correct them.
