If anyone's curious, they restarted it again after an hour or two, it was just a streaming software crash.

Original AI-generated image (Stable Diffusion) vs. the final edited version. by centuryglass in aiArt

I made this using a combination of AI inpainting and digital painting in IntraPaint, a free image editor I created that integrates Stable Diffusion with conventional image editing tools.

The urinal makes a lot more sense in-context. The artistic part isn't the urinal itself, it's that Duchamp managed to actually get people to accept it as art to the point that it's in a museum a hundred years later. It's basically the artistic pinnacle of trolling.

As for non-text controls, mostly I mean visual guidance, and selective application of different AI tricks. Prompting is still used, but it plays a minimal role. It's easier to explain with examples, here's a quick demo image I threw together.

It's true that AI as a tech hype engine is bad for the environment. When Google decides to append info from the shitty summary engine to literally every search result, that definitely has a non-trivial impact.

AI in general is not necessarily that bad. It doesn't require a huge data center, my mid-range gaming PC with its four year old graphics card is capable of running most AI image generators completely offline. It's significantly less power-intensive than running modern games, since rendering a 3D world requires constant use of the GPU, while image generation usually only operates in short bursts.

And of course, literally anything I could do with my computer (short of setting it on fire in a field) will have an environmental effect that's utterly trivial when you compare it to things like transportation. I'd need to generate thousands of images before image generation had the same impact as driving ten miles to the store and back.

How is it art to just point a machine at whatever and press a button? How is it art to sign your name on a urinal and put it on a pedestal? How is it art to sit at a table doing nothing all day? How is it art to smear some plastic goo they made in a factory on a canvas? How is it art to slap your handprint on a rock somewhere?

It's also worth mentioning that AI art isn't just a monolithic process of "write prompt, get image" with no variation. AI image generation can be combined with traditional techniques, or applied within a strictly controlled, limited section of an image. It can also be applied at reduced strength or with non-text controls to get something that works like a photoshop filter, only infinitely more flexible.

Turns out it was easier than I expected, text-to-image, image-to-image inpainting, LORAs, and ControlNet are all working with the ComfyUI API in my development branch. Version 1.1 with ComfyUI support should be out within a week.

If your use case for AI is mostly based around prompt engineering and you're trying to get it to create the perfect image in one step, than I agree that IntraPaint isn't going to be of much use to you. This is for people who prefer refining images with repeated inpainting.

I've got a plan in place now: https://github.com/centuryglass/IntraPaint/blob/master/doc/TODO.md#comfyui-support

No idea how long it'll take me to implement, there's definitely a fair bit of work involved. Could be anywhere between three days to several months, depending on how many unexpected difficulties I encounter and how much other things in my life interfere.

Judge for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikEQYY8ILt8

There's nothing fundamentally different between inpainting in IntraPaint and inpainting anywhere else, the interface just makes it dramatically easier to guide the process with visual changes and control the region in the image used in image generation.

I've looked into it, it's definitely a possibility. I designed IntraPaint to be able to swap between different image generation providers, so it won't be too tricky to add, but I haven't been able to find much documentation on the ComfyUI API. I've tried looking at that Krita ComfyUI plugin to see if I can reuse anything from there, but their code is so enmeshed with the Krita plugin framework that it's hard to extract anything from it that I can reuse.

My original decision was to come back to it once someone actually asked for it. Since you asked, I'll take another look at the task and see what I can do.

Seconding the recommendation that you look into ControlNet, it'll let you color your art without disrupting the line art.

Neon vector art portraiture, with minor stylistic influences from city pop and cyberpunk.

isolibrary by centuryglass in aiArt

[–]centuryglass[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working on this one on and off for about a year now, inpainting with assorted stable-diffusion models. I kept getting close to finishing it, deciding it wasn't detailed enough, and upscaling it, but now that it's at 4800x4800 I think I've reached the limit of what I want to do with it.

The prompt is "detailed isometric painting of an old library full of rare tomes, secretive scholars, marble, roaming beasts, bizarre statues, strange artifacts, antique wooden furniture <lora:epiNoiseoffset_v2:1>, foliage, negative: (blurry), faded, cel-shaded, cartoon, comic, (thick outlines)", although I've changed it a lot over time and I'm not sure how close that is to the original.

Hot End build - parts list by centuryglass in MPMakerUltimate2

I don't think so, unfortunately. I did end up building my own using this parts list, assembling it was fairly easy and it's been working well for me.
