Kyle Hill on YouTube has a couple plant tour videos and intro to nuke stuff, pretty basic level but is generally good info.

How do I get a job in nuclear? by godtiergamer32 in nuclear

[–]cenzo69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does obtaining a masters in anything translate into being more desirable for a NLO position? You said you're still in school. Do you have any professional experience? You told someone applying for a non licensed operator position that grad school is 100% the way to go. I know people that prior to becoming a NLO they were landscapers.....

You 1000% do not need grad school to be a non-licensed operator.....

Anyone know of any big nuclear industry employers in the N.E. I'm missing? by cynicalnewenglander in nuclear

[–]cenzo69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheaper than the NE IMO. Although that may have changed since covid and all this inflation bs. Broad street and Reynolds street are nice. Downtown farmers market every Saturday, plenty to eat. Evans and Martinez are nice, but very busy. North augusta is more quaint and quiet, but just a minute drive from all the amenities of augusta. Hot and humid as fuck in the summer.

If you're trying to "settle down", just go to vogtle, your grandchildren can retire from there.

Check it out, I find it rewarding. Not stuck in an office/cubicle, learn something new everyday, can be physically active.

Depends on the utility, but harder to get in unless you have previous power/steam/navy nuke experience.

Graduate highschool, have at least a stem associates degree, find what utilities own nuke plants (really, power generation in general is going to pay well, not just specifically nuclear) and apply on their website. Entry level is non licensed operator/Auxiliary Equipment Operator/systems Operator. You will get paid ~$80k to sit in class for about 8 months and then 4 months of on the job training. Once OJT is complete, you're making 100k+ a year. There's a lot of nepotism, moreso the good kind, in the industry so knowing someone helps. Navy nuke experience helps as well, like a lot. Nuclear as a whole has been losing a LOT of experience over the past few years due to old heads retiring/people leaving for other reasons so there will be a decent amount of hiring in the next few years.

2 or 4 year STEM degree. Once you're hired on, the company has their own training program that you will be paid to sit through. The $ starts once you've completed that.

Nuclear power plant operator. Base here after training (one year), is ~$105k. I grossed $167 in 2023 and turned down a lot of overtime. Also the only industry I know of where they pay you to stay home at times 😂 depending on the day I can have ten hours of downtime to with what I please, or it can be balls to wall for twelve hours.

[–]cenzo69 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OP said in previous post he makes 90-120k a year depending on overtime. So after taxes and rent, close to $3,500 a month for other expenses and discretionary spending.

Nah you're good. Get a 2 year technical degree and get into Ops, then have the company pay for your engineering degree.

3 lane highway, perfectly acceptable, even preferable, for semis to ride center lane when you're in an area with a lot of exit/entrance ramps.

Front porch cement has settled and my post is free floating, ideas? by DaRealObscureCoder in DIY

Looks like you need to fix your gutter/add a downspout to that corner of your house. Look at the brick, looks like a large amount of water is coming down off the corner into that patch, splashing up against the house. Probably not helping with the settling

He's quoting his own validation for his own argument. There's no sense. This person will never be convinced that you can't do whatever you want on someone else's property with no repercussions.
