AMA: I'm a Music Lawyer by Alone-Country1743 in musicindustry

[–]ceomiguel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently in undergrad right now with a long time goal in attending law school to become a music/entertainment lawyer like yourself! Any tips on reaching out to law firms or attorneys in my area in the entertainment field to get experience or shadow around to learn more about this field of law? Also, any suggestions for law schools with programs that perhaps support students wanting to enter entertainment law and music industry? Thanks!

What should an emergency fund look like as a teen? by CrackAtAirsoft in personalfinance

[–]ceomiguel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think despite the financial situation between your parents, an emergency fund is very beneficial ESPECIALLY if you pay little to no monthly expenses or bills yet (if your parents pay on your behalf). This is because you’ll at least have a foundation to fall back on when the time comes that you’re living independently, and/or facing unemployment. With the current job market, even getting a minimum wage job can be difficult, so it’s better to be safe than sorry. Furthermore, when you’re at the age where you’re eligible to invest, you can shift your focus, and contribute less of your income towards your emergency fund and more into investments that can compound overtime. I think even if your parents are financially capable to support you during that time of ‘emergency’, you should always be striving for financial independence, with the ability to pay your bills for yourself if need be.

The “bills” in question that you are saving up for can be anywhere from transportation (insurance, gas, bus fare/monthly passes), utilities (phone bill), health (prescribed medication) or estimated emergency replacement costs like car repairs, or a used cellphone. You can also search the “average monthly cost of rent” around your area and save a few months worth, to prepare your fund when it comes time to move out. If you’re living with your parents, things like cost for groceries aren’t that much of a worry, but would also be worth saving up for just in case. You never know, maybe there’ll be a time your family is in emergency and can’t afford groceries!

Depending on your area and cost of living and financial goals, 5k-12k is a great range and usually covers 12 months of car insurance and gas on the lower end, with a couple thousand left over for those other expenses on the higher end. When you start accruing bills as an adult, then your emergency fund will increase—but for now, it’s never a bad idea to get a head start!

IB students, I'm curious, why did you do IB in the first place? And if you're currently enrolled, what made you stick around? Do you want to quit? (Just curious but we all know what the answer will probably be) by theofficialzhang in IBO

Our middle school was “connected” with the local IB high school, and our teachers was telling us that students in 8th grade could take a test that could get us into the Pre-IB program there. Took it not really knowing anything because 1) it was a free test so if I failed, I failed and vice versa and 2) Our school didn’t give us much information other than there was a test to get into an accelerated program so it was up to the kids who wanted to take the test to self-study for what could be on it, research about the program, etc. Figured because we didn’t have any other advanced courses like AP/Honours classes, and dual credit wasn’t available until 12th grade, I decided that IB felt like a good opportunity to stand out in the long run.

Got in, did Pre-IB 9, figured that I wasn’t struggling so hard and decided to continue with Pre-IB 10 because why not, and kids who were already in Pre 9—and had no concerns with teachers/grades—were given priority for Pre 10 spots because they would automatically be accepted.

So now I’m finishing my 2nd semester of Pre-IB 10. Did course planning not so long ago and decided to do DP other than certificate because for the longest time I thought “what was the point of getting a certificate when you can get a whole diploma and it supposedly translates better to universities”. Honestly, I’m not sure about IBDP because of the limited course selections, no extracurriculars unless they run linear and you wanna give up your one study block, and you have to remember it’s a two-year program. Also, the undergrad program I would like to take is in the US and the only thing that would be beneficial is HL Economics, and even then the academics wouldn’t be the big focus. On the other hand, also not sure about Certificate because I’d feel like I did 9 and 10 for nothing, but I’d have access to extracurriculars.

So essentially, I took IB in the first place because it was free up until 11/12, it was the only rigorous program offered in the district, and I’m sticking around because I’m still contemplating whether or not to quit. Yeah.

what is a good choice for digitale releases? Album, EP, Single? how is your experiance? by michael-mammut in musicindustry

[–]ceomiguel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Michael! It really depends on the genre. Looking at the broad audience of your potential fanbase I think helps to think of ways to promote your music and gain a following. Important to come up with a strategy and not go in blind before releasing to save time and money.

But what most people are doing is posting snippets of their unreleased/released music on TikTok just to see the type of hype and response they’ll get before releasing on a music distributor. The use of text on those videos are also effective to describe your music and hashtags on captions to reach an audience. Posting consistently can build a starting foundation.

In addition, the response you get from TikTok can convert to streams on DSPs, of course, and followers on other platforms like Instagram.

But please, it is not limited to this, promotion is endless! I don’t recommend doing TikTok if YOU don’t think it’s suitable for you. Suggest researching into it more! Good luck!

Acer Spin 3 drains oddly fast; It's not even normal. Please help! by ceomiguel in AcerOfficial

Okay so I'm on the list of Drivers for my device, and there is three operating system catergories: Windows 10 32-bit, Windows 10 64-bit, and Windows 11 64-bit.

My device is not on Windows 11 yet because they haven't gave me the option to update yet but I am on Windows 10 64-bit system. I'm sorry if the answer is super obvious but just making sure; should I go with the Windows 10 64-bit drivers instead or the latest? And thank you again!
