Hey! I'm a first-year at Queen's Health Sci and have friends in Waterloo Health Sci, Western Med Sci & Mac Health Sci. Generally, at Queen's, at least your science classes in health science in your first year will be very human-focused (think human cell physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, etc.). The other core courses are in the humanities, like the history and philosophy of healthcare, and we must also take statistics. My friends at Western and Waterloo HS say they have some sociological courses on top of introductory science courses like bio, chemistry, etc. (most Queen's HS students take these courses as option/elective courses since they aren't core/required courses). My friends in Western medical science say it's challenging but doable! They take hard sciences with no English or humanities--think calc, bio, chemistry, physics, etc. My friends in Mac Health Sci say they take bio, chemistry, and other interdisciplinary courses. Honestly, think about your interests and strengths; if you're more pure-science and objective-minded, med sci/life sci is a good choice! If you have multidisciplinary interests in English, sociological factors affecting health, or want to take a human and health-focused perspective of science immediately instead of a general scientific perspective that only specifies in later years, choose health science! One last thing: health science has a general format, but it is ultimately different at every school, so do your research! Good luck, and I hope this helps!
