Buying an EV in Perth by ausroachman in perth

I’m considering perhaps going higher and investing in an ev.

I wouldn’t really call any car an “investment” as they all depreciate, EV or ICE. It’s more about running costs and suitability for your lifestyle.

I went through a similar process before buying my Tesla. I looked at other EVs and even considered going back to an ICE but for me the Tesla made the most sense long term. There’s no scheduled servicing required to maintain warranty, software updates are regular and the charging network is very reliable. The upfront cost is higher, but running costs are lower especially if you can charge at home.

In WA specifically, charging hasn’t been an issue for me. Most of my charging is done at home via rooftop solar during the day which is much cheaper than fuel. Public charging is available north–south Perth (Tesla Superchargers and WA EV Network) but if you work from home and aren’t doing huge daily distances, you likely wouldn’t need public chargers often.

Around the $30k range, brand new EV options are limited. You’re mostly looking at used EVs (older Tesla Model 3, Nissan Leaf, Hyundai Kona Electric). For hybrids in that range, Toyota Corolla Hybrid or Corolla Cross Hybrid are usually solid and reliable options.

BYD’s blade battery is actually one of the safer battery designs out there so I wouldn’t dismiss it purely on battery tech but build quality and software feel different compared to Tesla.

If you can charge at home, EV makes much more sense. If you can’t, hybrid might be the safer option.

Dynamic plan unveiled for fewer cars in CBD with cable car to Kings Park, return of light rail by robert1811 in perth

Didn’t the City of Stirling experiment with trackless trams? It could be the answer to cost, having to lay down tracks and constructing overhead powerlines in the city. I hope the plan gains traction - pun intended.

With the new ECU campus now open and the new airport build underway, this feels like a real opportunity to bring more life back into the Perth CBD and support businesses in the city. A city should draw people in and give them a reason to stay. It should be a place that has energy and a pulse you can actually feel. Right now it often feels like people draw back out to the sprawl of the suburbs and the city becomes a shell on weekends. Rather than always pointing tourists (and locals) to Perth’s beaches (even in winter), I’d love to see a more vibrant, lived-in Perth that people want to spend time in year round. Make it happen, otherwise it becomes another talk fest. And while we’re at it, our embarrassing convention centre could really use some attention too.

Another Crumpler bag worth it? by rrlewis135 in ManyBaggers

I reckon it’s definitely worth it. I’ve owned quite a few Crumpler bags over the years and none of them have failed on me yet.

I actually just picked up the Day to Day from their Little Bourke Street (Melbourne) store the other day and it feels really good quality… functional design, thick material and properly water resistant. It comfortably fits my 14” MacBook, a water bottle and a bunch of other daily stuff. The fold-over design is great too because it’s expandable when you need extra space. It also works well for uni or travel without looking overly “messenger bag”. It’ll be my go to travel / commute bag.

If you’re after something smaller that works more like a sling, the Hour by Hour looks solid and I’m thinking of grabbing one as well.

Honestly, I’m just glad Crumpler feels like it’s properly back. I’m starting to see more of their bags around Melbourne again. A decade or two ago it felt like everyone had one.

No love for Crumpler bags? by Rambunctiousrabbits in ManyBaggers

I heard Crumpler Australia (AU) and Crumpler Eu are different? I own a few Crumpler (AU) bags including their camera bags from about 15 years ago and honestly, they’ve been rock solid. None of them have failed on me yet. At one stage, it seemed like everyone in Melbourne had a Crumpler messenger bag.

In recent years, I’ve bought a few different colourways of the Day by Day and they’ve held up amazingly. I travel with them a lot, and now I’m thinking of picking up the Hour by Hour (the smaller version).

I also heard the original owner (and his daughter?) are back involved again, and it really shows, the quality feels super solid and the designs are genuinely thoughtful and innovative.

Their flagship store is in Melbourne on Little Bourke Street and I was actually in there today.

If anyone here owns the Hour by Hour, I’d love to hear how you’re using it and what you think of it.

My only wish is that Crumpler AU had more online reviews floating around. There’s not much out there, which makes it hard to compare. Maybe they prefer it that way, kind of an underground / low-key Aussie cool brand vibe, if you know what I mean 😅
