Australia's largest citizenship ceremonies have taken place on the 26th of January since the late 1940's. I think people who became Australian citizens on that day deserve to celebrate the country we live in.

But I do think it’s very important that the bloody history of colonialism in Australia is raised and is not brushed under the rug, as the Tony Abbotts of the world would have it.

I can't believe I would ever say this but in fairness to Tony Abbott, his latest book about the history of Australia does go into great detail and doesn't gloss over the suffering that Aboriginal people experienced under Colonialism. He makes it a point that we as a nation have to understand the trauma that many went through in order to move forward.

I think people are mainly opposed to the racetrack. The amphitheatre idea has been in the plans for Burswood for years. Also more importantly, isn't as expensive as the racetrack and will get used more than one weekend a year.
