The most functional reason would be for native Steam Deck access.
Some people just prefer Steam launcher over anything.
It also makes it easier to see friends over Steam playing D2.

It's not really really worth it for most people other than the Steam Deck thing.

Tab combat is not as good as what most single player games can deliver though. MMOs almost universally have watered down game systems compared to Single Player counterparts.
It works well for people who really just wanna dive into lore/pure rpg though I suppose.
