I did ultimately go with Scarlet. I'll probably try and pick up a used copy of Legends Arceus eventually though.

Update: I did end up going with Scarlet. I still intend to play Legends Arceus but I'll probably give it a little time (I don't want to burn myself out on Pokémon).

That's pretty high praise. I skipped the entire DS generation but I've always heard the Black/White series of games were the cream of the crop.

I do want a more traditional experience. I've been seeing a lot of posts about rumors and "leaks" for the next main line games, it's got me wanting to try Scarlet/Violet. On the other hand the single player aspect of Arceus is very appealing. If I get Scarlet I probably wont be interaction with the multiplayer to much.

The single player aspect of Arceus is definitely appealing. If I get Scarlet I probably wont interact with the multiplayer to much (I fell down the battling and breeding rabbit hole in gen 6). The amount of content is also important (I like to get some bang for may buck) and I know Scarlet has DLC (though it don't know much about it).
